QUOTE (Kenny Hates Prospects @ Nov 17, 2008 -> 06:30 PM) I don't know anything about life or Corky Miller, but both Corky Miller and I know you need to see a therapist. For having a pet peeve and expressing it? You definitely don't know what Corky Miller would think.

QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Nov 17, 2008 -> 04:49 PM) Good to know, buddy. Ps, I really do hate condescending name-calling, but I usually use kid, when I can’t remember the person’s name that I’m referring to. I understand that sometimes it is used playfully but most of the time it is used in a way that is slightly derogatory. Its subtle, yet it annoys me.
-
I am relaxed having let that out. I am just trying to promote humility.
-
I find it annoying when someone refers to a grown person as a kid. It screams ego, as if to say, "I am more experienced than this kid. I've been through it all before" when really no one really knows anything about life. We are all the same amount of clueless. Go ahead and tell me exactly: How did the universe begin and why? Who created it? What happens after we die? Is there a heaven and what is it like if there is? What is it like to be free from aversion and desire? What does one base their actions on having attained enlightenment? Then you can start calling other people "kid". Then again, if you were that wise, you wouldn't.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Nov 15, 2008 -> 08:43 PM) The Sox signed backup catcher Corky Miller to a minor-league contract, a scouting source said. Miller, 32, has played parts of eight seasons in the majors. He played last season for Atlanta and Triple-A Richmond. Anyone ever seen this kid play? Does he have an outside chance to fight off Armstrong/FA acquisition/trade for the back-up position to replace Goggles? What attributes (offensive/defensive hopefully!) does he possess? 32 years old and he is a kid?

How could you let Hoffman go if you are the padres? I don't care if they are in contention. If he wants to leave I let him, but after 15+ seasons, I doubt he wants anything more than to retire a padre.

Some more names that might make sense to KW

Fukudome isn't a terrible player. He is just terribly overpaid. I would take him from the cubs if they bit off a huge portion of his contract. Its also likely that he will improve. It seems this team will never play brian anderson on a regular basis again with the speedy jerry owens under contract. I'd rather have kosuke(almost anyone) over jerry. -
Current Roster-2009 Potential Career Milestones
max power replied to jasonxctf's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Baseball reference has them both at 298. Dye has had about almost an entire season more worth of at bats. They are closer than I thought too though. -
QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Nov 13, 2008 -> 03:30 AM) I think Gold Gloves are the dumbest, followed by Comeback Player, for obvious reasons, but I'll let whoever else believes what they believe. Thank you for not changing our minds.

QUOTE (Texsox @ Nov 12, 2008 -> 10:16 PM) Nor does it make the minority right. It's a matter of faith. And actually, since we cannot recreate the big bang or create life from a primordial soup in a laboratory, a belief in evolution also takes faith. While it may require some faith, a belief in evolution differs because of evidence like the fossil record. Anyway, I am out of this thread at least for that portion of the argument as I've seen where its gone before- Absolutely no where. Arguing about who is right about the existence of god isn't really the issue. The issue here is regarding the message and if its offensive. Personally, I don't find it much less offensive than messages from religious groups. The reason being is, this billboard only posted a question, "Why believe in god?" that is something even the most religious people can ask themselves and gain some insight from. In the vast majority of cases it will reaffirm the faith of those who take it seriously. Religious organizations are constantly bombarding the unfaithful with declarative messages like "No-one but almighty could have created the universe" and no one bats an eye at them because its something our society is more used to. Billboards like that are far more offensive to me because of their arrogance, as I believe I have no idea if there is a god or not. -

QUOTE (The Bones @ Nov 12, 2008 -> 08:24 PM) Ah yes...I see we can have God and Jesus shoved down our throats every block of every town in the nation but 1 ad campaign asking why people believe in an invisible man in the clouds is just taking it way too far. Excellent post. -
How Long Does Obama Get To "Blame it on Bush"?
max power replied to Texsox's topic in The Filibuster
Didn't obama push for it? Didn't obama vote for it? Its much more his than that, but equally a whole bunch of other peoples and what rush said was is ridiculous. -
QUOTE (Texsox @ Nov 12, 2008 -> 04:53 PM) You would be one of the few that truly believe this if by the government staying out you mean no student financial aid. The financial aid is the ruse that the government is using to "get into people's lives". Once someone accepts that $4,000 Pell Grant, the government is asking them to give something in return. So people could keep the government out of their lives by going to a private school and turning down any financial aid. Or they could work a job and earn that $4,000. Plenty of nice options. While I might have found the idea behind this to be intriguing at one time, I believe that getting these people to volunteer will end up costing tax payers even more money, despite whatever work is gained from the actual volunteering because of the nature of big government today. Undoubtedly, this is going to turn into yet another gigantic bureaucratic disaster. Change, in my opinion, would be less government, not more.
-
I find it odd I was wrong for assuming that the volunteers didn't get paid. I know what they say about assuming but I should at least be able to assume what is part of the definition of the word.
-
Jesus guys. For one I am not in college, I just object to forced volunteering as it seems to be an obvious contradiction. I guess he has backed off of this idea, I misread it, or it was misstated in the first post. I am not complaining because I am being forced to do anything. I just think the government should stay out of people's lives.
-
Well, artists like Kanye West won't complain as much but for the most part I think people will continue to live their lives as ignorant self centered bigots.
-
I also miss tim. I don't really watch any political coverage but I always watched his show or the repeat of it on late at night.
-
How is someone who is in college and working their ass off to pay for it going to find an extra 100 hours to work for free?

How Long Does Obama Get To "Blame it on Bush"?
max power replied to Texsox's topic in The Filibuster
Considering Obama has been in office for nearly four years as a senator, though not doing his job hardly at all for two of them so he could campaign, he can lay the blame squarely on himself and his legislative peers in addition to the soon to be former president. People seem to think that the president is the reason for everything wrong in this country. I highly doubt the change people speak of will end up being anything more than an election slogan. -
QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Nov 12, 2008 -> 12:50 AM) Why? I don't see any meaning for some of the selectivity.

Miguel Cabrera isn't on that list? Oh, it wasn't in one season. Well. Honestly that is a pretty stupid stat.
