  1. QUOTE (scenario @ Apr 20, 2008 -> 10:18 AM) The team cuts a guy the day after he goes public about being unhappy and critizes management, and you want to suggest that he didn't have anything to do with it? Oh please. Quit apologizing for him. It's not like it's the first time Frank has played out an issue in the media. No he didn't. Either way he wasn't going to get that money. How are you missing that point? I am not apologizing for him. I am criticizing the Blue Jays.
  2. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Apr 20, 2008 -> 11:11 AM) He didn't care that they won yesterday. He didn't even celebrate with his teammates. He said he didn't want to be there anymore. Guess what, he got his wish. I'd like somebody to pay me $8 million to do nothing and have people go on and on about how the entity paying me is screwing me. The guy is a great hitter, at least was. Maybe he still has it, I'm sure someone will give him a shot. But his crying is as legendary as anything else in his career at this point. Kudos to an organization who wasn't going to let it infect their clubhouse. They'll eat this year's money and be done with him. If he still can hit like you think he can and he thinks he can, he would have eventually have received the opportunity to show that again and would most likely have been able to get that $10 million option to kick in. His mouth cost him some money. I for one, applaud it. What are you talking about? His mouth didn't cost him any money. They were going to bench him to ensure he didn't get that option. He didn't have a choice.
  3. QUOTE (scenario @ Apr 20, 2008 -> 10:06 AM) Yep. That... and not letting an unhappy player issue fester into a bigger clubhouse problem. Lessons learned from the Shea Hillenbrand situation. Sometimes it's better to cut your losses. Frank screwed himself by playing this out through the media. How? He got what he wanted.
  4. QUOTE (Reddy @ Apr 20, 2008 -> 10:05 AM) wow whats with all the frank hate today? yeah he's had a temper throughout his career, fine. but i dont get how people can look at this situation and not think he got screwed. he made valid points - why haven't Sheff, Ortiz been benched huh? they're playing just as badly. you just dont bench a guy indefinitely after 16 games just because he's starting slowly. and frank ALWAYS starts slowly. Its not just today. He has been complaining about frank for a few days.
  5. Frank had every right to complain. He has had 60 at bats this year. He is off to a slow start, so they decide to screw him out of 10 million dollars. He performed up to expectations last year and gets hardly a chance this year? I don't feel bad for frank. He will make more money now this year. However, I do think that the blue jays upper management is totally inept.
  6. I wonder if they have something in the works with bonds or something? Maybe there is more to this. If not, the blue jay might be the most mismanaged team in baseball.
  7. That doesn't surprise me. Ribs take forever to heal, ask anyone who has broken theirs before. It hurts to cough, sneeze, laugh and sleep at night. They move too much to heal quickly.
  8. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Apr 20, 2008 -> 05:39 AM) No, his option has nothing to do about ABs this year. Its a team option which supposedly part would be picked up by Philadelphia. There's been plenty of b****ing about Thome since he's been here though. One other thing, you would never see Thome act like Frank is right now, no matter what. Sorry Frank, you make $10 million a year and happen to be stinking the place up. BTW Stairs was 2-3 with a walk in a win taking his place. Kalapse's payroll sheet says otherwise. 1100 PA in 06 + 07 and his option is vested according to the aforementioned. Bottom line is Frank deserves more than 60 at bats to show what he is worth, so does Jim. While there is nothing wrong with an occasional day off, Frank seems to think its more than that. What stairs did in one game is pretty meaningless. I'm not even sure why you mentioned it. How do you know frank wouldn't have done better? You don't. Should I site that frank has had some similar games this year? No, because its irrelevant.
  9. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Apr 19, 2008 -> 02:34 PM) Why? Toronto doesn't owe Frank anything. He's well on his way to getting the number of plate appearances necessary for the option. If he was worried about the Blue Jays cutting his playing time in order to keep the option from activating, maybe just maybe, just like with the contract containing the diminished skills clause he signed with the White Sox, he shouldn't have signed it. He'll get more opportunities, but he was awful in spring training, and awful except for a few games this season, he's going to have to perform to get paid. Would you be up in arms if Thome was in the exact same situation to kick in a $10 million option next year and wasn't doing jack, and the Sox tried something else? I thought thome did have a similar option, was doing about as much as frank, but most importantly is still playing.
  10. At least that game only took 2 hours to watch.
  11. Oh I get it now. AJ has to rest so he can wrestle after the game. That's a lot more important than playing baseball.
  12. So ozzie says that alexei didn't play the outfield well, juan starts game one, then he puts ramirez in center for game two. Makes a lot of sense, right?
  13. QUOTE (Brian @ Apr 19, 2008 -> 05:56 PM) Wrigley At least they don't honk a horn when their own player is in the middle of swinging a bat.
  14. QUOTE (fathom @ Apr 19, 2008 -> 05:48 PM) Last year was his contract year. Ok, not sure what I was thinking. Anyway, him being crappy in 06 shows that his contract doesn't have anything to do with his poor performance now.
  15. QUOTE (fathom @ Apr 19, 2008 -> 05:46 PM) That wasn't his contract year. It wasn't? He only got a four year deal?
  16. QUOTE (fathom @ Apr 19, 2008 -> 05:44 PM) Buehrle last year? 06?
  17. QUOTE (DonnyDevito @ Apr 19, 2008 -> 05:42 PM) It was amazing how he pitched Cy Young worthy when he didn't have a long term contract. He was crap in his contract year.
