Cabrera needed to get the hell out of the way, not catch the ball. -

QUOTE (Wanne @ Apr 19, 2008 -> 05:17 PM) GO SOX!!!! How's that?!? That is better. It was a little disheartening to see that when we had one out in the first inning. -

Nice bunt. -
41 straight retired batters late last year. One blown save this year and soxtalk is concerned.
-
Its too bad jerry owens can't play second base. He looks like the prototypical body type for it.
-
He hit 95 on wednesday night(I think) for a K. Either Hawk or DJ made a point of mentioning it. Can't remember who against. Either millar or markakais.
-
Have AJ bat 3rd then? We need a lefty somewhere in the 3 or 4 spot, I think. Also I think it works better when a lefty bats 6th because our typical 7th, 8th, and 9th hitters are all righties. You wouldn't want your 6th batter to be a righty too.

I guess I agree that its a better stat. The 1.8 number makes sense, and he just divides by four for no other reason than reducing the number into something more recognizable. He should have named it something else.

QUOTE (DBAH0 @ Apr 19, 2008 -> 07:30 AM) Well let's crunch some numbers and try to work it out ourselves. Quentin's GPA is .297. He has an OBP of .373 according to THT, and a SLG of .551. (.373 * 1.8 + .551) / 4 = .306 Uribe's OBP is .228, SLG of .283 (GPA of .168) (.228 * 1.8 + 2.83) / 4 = .173 I think he means where did they come up with 1.8 and 4?

Also I don't think Swisher will put up the power numbers thome will, even though he is now in the cell for half his games. I could be wrong about that but swish looks more like a 35 HR guy for his career than a 40 HR guy. The real measure of power is slugging, and thome's numbers last year are much better than swish's career best. I think you are letting thome's rocky start fool you.

QUOTE (DBAH0 @ Apr 19, 2008 -> 08:07 AM) That's the 2nd time I've been asked that. GPA stands for Gross Production Average. It's a stat used from the Hardball Times. A variation of OPS, but more accurate and easier to interpret. The exact formula is (OBP*1.8+SLG)/4, adjusted for ballpark factor. The scale of GPA is similar to BA: .200 is lousy, .265 is around average and .300 is a star. A simple formula for converting GPA to runs is PA*1.356*(GPA^1.77). For comparions sake, Uribe has a GPA of .168, Cabrera a GPA of .242, and Pierzynski a GPA of .304. Last time you wrote that I thought it was a typo. I never saw a response to my ignorant post.

Bench thome . . . for a .400 OBP owens who can now magically slug. Yes, you did say it will never happen, I'll give you that, so why mention it at all?

How was pablo at third?

QUOTE (DonnyDevito @ Apr 18, 2008 -> 11:24 AM) Ozuna is what, 34 or 35, years old now. I know Ozuna's b-day falls during baseball season so whatever his age is now, you can add a year because he has a b-day coming up later this summer i believe (i could be wrong tho). I have a feeling we saw the best of Ozuna a couple of years ago in '06. He had that serious injury last year and just hasn't looked the same in '08. Ozuna is a good player but I wouldn't mind seeing another player get his roster spot next year. Hasn't looked the same? He hasn't even had 10 at bats. There is no way to tell yet.

The top three is all NL? This list sucks.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Apr 17, 2008 -> 10:26 AM) Juan has the 2nd best arm of any infielder in all of baseball (Furcal has the best). Therefor, if you have an arm a tick below Uribe's than you too would have one of the best arms in baseball (and while I like Richar's tools, he doesn't have Juans arm, he does happen to have an above average arm for a 2nd baseman though). Uribe's arm, by 2nd base standards (now that he's playing there) is ridiculous (not that the arm strenght is that important at 2B with the exception of the rare play up the middle or turning DP's). It is ridiculous. I agree. Like I said though he is playing second base. From what I have seen this season, he uses the full strength of his arm once every three games or so. That's why its only a notch.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 17, 2008 -> 09:36 PM) I don't think we're going to be thinking of Gavin as our 5th starter much longer. Hard to say when danks and the count both looked very good in their last starts.

Stone believes Roberts will be still be traded
max power replied to GreatScott82's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I don't want it to happen and lucky for me, it won't. I'd rather see us go at it next year with fields and richar, saving the money that would be spent on crede to make a more substantial splash in the free agent market. If they traded fields for a half season of roberts it would be really stupid. I can't believe stone hinted at that.
