  1. QUOTE (Iwritecode @ May 24, 2011 -> 11:25 AM) I remember when I worked retail if I had to switch with someone we always had to get approval from management first. Typically everyone had a "regular" schedule so you more or less knew when you were going to be scheduled and could plan around it. There were a few times at different jobs that we would get a new manager on a power trip and he would change the schedule around without telling anyone. So it got to the point where I worked the same days every single week and wouldn't even bother looking at the schedule. Then one day I show up and the manager says "You're not supposed to be here yet." Well I've worked on this day at this time the entire time I've worked here. Thanks for letting me know jackass. Communication with new management is always key.
  2. QUOTE (SoxFan562004 @ May 24, 2011 -> 11:07 AM) when I was in college I managed a movie theater and me and the other managers HATED shift switching. Obviously we would prefer we had an employee there rather than an empty slot, but even jobs at movie theaters schedules were made so we had a balance of things employees were good at or to keep other employees away from other employees. Also, when dealing with part-time jobs it was obviously a lot of students or people with other jobs, so we highly encouraged employees to get us their needed times off and even would take calls while making the schedule, so when there were a ton of swaps it was annoying, again with the understanding of emergencies or last minute things popping up. A few people even stopped getting scheduled because if given 4 shifts a week all four would be swapped out. Sorry, just pet peeve I had, any other managers experience this? I'm a Dual Store Manager for a coffee chain and I schedule people at certain times for each of my locations for certain reasons, without a doubt. I have a Google Calendar set up to post schedules, see requests off or requests for more time, as well as requests for switching of shifts, which I have to approve before the switch is allowed. Last minute switching and requesting gets old and tiring when we have to change around schedules for two locations to keep quality people in at peak time. It's a pet peeve of mine as well, but I've pretty much filtered out anyone who had an excessive amount of requests in the past 3 months.
  3. QUOTE (greg775 @ May 22, 2011 -> 01:48 PM) Beautiful hit by Lexi. That woulda been cool to clear the fence for homer No. 2 today. How did Gordon score on that? Always a chance it coulda been caught. Nice, Lexi and Gordon. 2 outs. Running on contact
  4. If Lexi wants to keep doing what he's doing, he can take the trip to the All-Star Game for the White Sox.
  5. QUOTE (greg775 @ May 22, 2011 -> 01:36 PM) Didn't Kemp have a few so-so years. Now he's a star. Maybe Beckham will follow that same path? Kemp was really good in 2008 and 2009. 2010 was a down year, and this season he's back up beyond even his great 09 season. He's always shown the tools, but it seems like he's finally fully tapped into his skill set.
  6. QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ May 22, 2011 -> 12:41 PM) Volquez gives up 4 in the 1st. Cleveland fans packing the jake again. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 22, 2011 -> 01:18 PM) When are the Indians going to cool down at Progressive/Jacobs? 6-1, Indians over the Reds at home now. The Reds gifted the Indians 2 runs in the first with boneheaded defense, but teams that induce those types of plays are the teams that end up winning divisions.
  7. 7 game hitting streak for everybody's favorite lead off hitter.
  8. QUOTE (knightni @ May 20, 2011 -> 12:00 PM) They should have used a blue back and red brim like 1982-87. That would have been awesome.. I suppose we can hope for next year. I'd bet that the Sox would move the most units if that were the design.
  9. Nice way to bounce back after the disappointing finish last night. Sox have now won 10 of 14. This is the solid stretch we were hoping for. (cue: and we're still X amount back because of X and Y and Z and Adam Dunn).
  10. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ May 20, 2011 -> 11:31 AM) I don't if Buehrle has been $30 million better, but I think his stat line has definitely been better than Garland's has been. Also consider Garland has spent half that time in the NL West, including one season in Petco Park. actual stats, side by side.. They've both been good and would merit very similar pay, except one of them throws with his left arm and has stayed with the same organization.
  11. QUOTE (Real @ May 19, 2011 -> 11:50 PM) and 10 back in the loss column. that's how bad it was for this team to start the season like they did. they just took two straight from cleveland, and won 9 of the last 12, and we're still 10 back in the loss column. The Indians have A LOT of time fix that loss column. Guys like Hafner and Sizemore (to a lesser extent) have helped them get to this point, they're HUGE risks to slow that production. Their starting pitching has shown it can be for real, but we, as White Sox fans, know all too well how long that can sustain great success.
  12. Jon Garland and Mark Buehrle have pretty similar stat lines from 2005-2011. Garland has made $48.35 million in this time, Buehrle has made $79.5 million (both including 2011 season). It's impressive what staying with one organization can do for your paycheck. I'll be there tonight to cheer for the great Juan Uribe.
  13. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 20, 2011 -> 10:26 AM) I agree, that is sharp. We're lucky the Sox get the navy blue look, as the red caps look pretty rough on teams that don't have red as a main color (Giants, Rockies, Pirates). The Cubs version has the red brim and back and it looks bad when blue is their primary color.
  14. I picked up the Sox 2011 Stars and Stripes cap the other night at Grandstand. This one might be my favorite of the Stars and Stripes looks, but mostly because I love the old-school look of caps that have a different color for the crown panels. I don't know that they'll look great with the Sox uniforms, but none of them have really, so that's not a major concern. Pics:
  15. QUOTE (hi8is @ May 19, 2011 -> 01:06 PM) I believe he made this adjustment in his last Charlotte start during the 3rd inning after giving up 5 runs. Well, it clearly worked... something to pay attention to going forward though.
  16. I was lucky enough to be at the game last night and I've gotta say that that was the best pitching performance I've ever been witness to. Peavy looked phenomenal. I did notice that he was pitching from the first base side of the pitching rubber, about as far that way as he can go. Does anyone know if this is a recent adjustment or has he done this for a while?
  17. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ May 17, 2011 -> 07:05 AM) Don't worry folks. There is a 0% chance that Cleveland wins this division. It's ours for the taking. Soxtalk says so. Cuck Fleveland.
  18. As of today, the White Sox are one of only three teams in the majors that hasn't had a game postponed due to weather. The Angels and Blue Jays are the other two.
  19. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 15, 2011 -> 05:16 PM) Plenty of time for Paulie to reach 3rd? Maybe you're forgetting who's doing the running. He would have been standing at second while the ball rattled around (even if just a little bit), the corner of the outfield. He would have been into third, standing. Hell, DUNN would have made it.
  20. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 15, 2011 -> 05:10 PM) Seriously what the Hell could have been done there? Yell "Go back"? Bull, would have done nothing. That's as freaky of a play as you can get. If Paulie had stopped near second base, on the first base side, he would have had a damn good chance to either get back to first or get to third once he knew what happened with the ball. If the ball had dropped, there would have been more time where Jackson was not in control of the ball, allowing plenty of time for him to reach third. He played it wrong.
  21. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 15, 2011 -> 05:06 PM) That one isn't on the baserunning. It is a little bit.. If Paulie would have seen that the ball was caught, he would still be on base and there'd only be 1 out, setting up perfectly for a more typical GIDP from AJ.
