  1. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Feb 17, 2011 -> 06:23 PM) I think it does. Our rotation is made up of one #2 (Danks), a #3 (Floyd), and two #4s in Jackson and Buerhle. Don't even get me started on our 5th starter. Peavy, Beckham and CQ are the keys to our season in my opinion. Jake Peavy is going to have to be the fifth starter.. there's nothing else to say about that 5th spot. The Sox are screwed if it's not him, and he'd better pitch like a #1 or #2 starting in June or so. He can skate by as a #5 in the early parts of the season (high-quality, short outings will be fine by me), but once he hits full strength, I hope that re-attached shoulder carries the Sox all the way to the World Series.
  2. QUOTE (Brian @ Feb 17, 2011 -> 05:43 PM) This one is my favorite. The season might live or die by how many times Jake Peavy throws a baseball.
  3. QUOTE (smalls2598 @ Feb 17, 2011 -> 11:37 AM) Per Rotoworld, Joe Crede is not reporting to Rockies camp. He is now, again, a free agent. Seems like a strange move if he's in good health.
  4. Actually a pretty good listen on his situation and sports media and Chicago. There's some stuff on his issues with the White Sox too, he touches on Ozzie a bit in part 2. He's still a jack ass. http://www.foxsportsradio.com/pages/jasonwhitlock/
  5. The only thing I can find on Selig suspending anyone for anything other than PEDs is the Kenny Rogers incident, 20 games for assaulting a camera man. Is there any league precedent for anything like this, or does it usually come down to the team taking action?
  6. Scotty Pods signs a minor league deal with the Blue Jays http://twitter.com/#!/StarSports/statu...983098205515776
  7. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Feb 10, 2011 -> 02:00 PM) Well, the Indians are winning the Central. I came here to make this joke.. Wouldn't it be somethin' though?
  8. Last year we were all excited for "JFP" Jake Peavy.. This year we're all hopeful that "JFP" turns into JFP and not JFP
  9. QUOTE (PeavyTime @ Feb 16, 2011 -> 09:45 AM) Playing the world's saddest song.. on the world's tiniest violin.. Seriously though, being the second most popular team in the city's (country's?) second most popular sport doesn't help. I've never been impressed with ESPN's broad baseball coverage. Baseball Tonight does a pretty good job of covering everyone, but SportsCenter and non-baseball specific shows are crap. The MLBN guys all have their pretty obvious biases. Steve Phillips was always the national media's voice of the White Sox and he no longer has the outlet.
  10. Deep league... This sounds like a challenge I'd like to accept. Count me in. PM me the info.
  11. I'm really looking forward to listening to Bill Melton call the spring training games on mlb.tv again.......
  12. QUOTE (knightni @ Feb 13, 2011 -> 09:21 AM) In essence, you'd have this: 4-1 Cle Buehrle 4-2 Cle Jackson 4-3 Cle Danks 4-4 4-5 KC Floyd 4-6 KC Buehrle 4-7 TB Jackson 4-8 TB Danks 4-9 TB Floyd on short rest 4-10 TB Buehrle on short rest 4-11 Oak Jackson on short rest 4-12 Oak Danks on short rest 4-13 Oak Floyd on short rest again 4-14 4-15 LAA Buehrle 4-16 LAA Jackson 4-17 LAA Danks 4-18 TB Floyd 4-19 TB Buehrle on short rest again I'd rather see them slide a fifth starter in on the 9th to keep everyone on normal rest, and if necessary do a short run of everyone on short rest starting the 19th with Floyd, even though, if I recall correctly, Gavin isn't very good on short rest.
  13. I just pulled out my calendar and was just about to post this exact same rotation. Over the first 17 games, they need a 5th starter twice to keep everyone on 4 days rest. From April 15-May 4, the Sox play 20 straight days, a stretch that would suicide to keep on a 4 man rotation. I'd say ideally Peavy is back for the start on the 19th, and if not that, he can slide in somewhere during that 20 game stretch. QUOTE (flavum @ Feb 13, 2011 -> 09:08 AM) Gonzales is wrong about not needing a 5th starter until April 10th. It's actually April 9th. I'd go: 4-1 Cle Buehrle 4-2 Cle Jackson 4-3 Cle Danks 4-4 4-5 KC Floyd 4-6 KC Buehrle 4-7 TB Jackson 4-8 TB Danks 4-9 TB 5th starter 4-10 TB Floyd 4-11 Oak Buehrle 4-12 Oak Jackson 4-13 Oak Danks 4-14 4-15 LAA Floyd 4-16 LAA Buehrle 4-17 LAA Jackson 4-18 TB Danks 4-19 TB 5th starter ...and so on. At the earliest, I hope Peavy isn't considered to start until April 19th.
  14. QUOTE (knightni @ Feb 13, 2011 -> 09:04 AM) I think that it's too risky, honestly. Why build up innings that early? Would they really be building up innings, or just using the schedule to their advantage by having Buehrle, Floyd, Danks, and Jackson pitch on normal rest due to the off days? Edit: My bad.. the schedule doesn't line up THAT well.. but they could certainly skip some starts from that 5th spot in the rotation over the first 3 weeks of the season.
  15. Seems kind of... logical, almost too logical for Ozzie. http://www.chicagobreakingsports.com/2011/...ale-in-pen.html
  16. I just watched the finale of Friday Night Lights, which has been my favorite show on TV since I caught up on seasons 1 and 2 on DVD after hearing some of the buzz. I thought the finale was excellent. The writers continued their trend of keeping the story lines believable and potent. The game scene in this episode was probably my favorite of the series. No cheesy announcer or coach-QB dialogue running us through the play by play all game except for one sentence at the end of and a nice montage leading up to the final play, which of course was going to decide the game.. I'd have it no other way, really. My girlfriend just started season 1 after hearing me blab about it and she's hooked.. I'm pretty sure I'm gonna jump in and go through the whole thing again. QUOTE (whitesoxfan99 @ Feb 11, 2011 -> 11:43 AM) Agreed. Some of the football scenes were well down but others were just absolutely horrible. And way too many games came down to a final play, that just doesn't happen often in football. I just read through the thread and have to say that I agree with this completely, but I got over it pretty quickly once I realized that the show isn't really about football at all.
  17. QUOTE (WhiteSUX @ Feb 8, 2011 -> 07:12 PM) ESPN has rated Juan Pierre no. 6 out of all possible outfielders. Is this MLB or Tee Ball? Are these guys serious about this list or do they they just get together to make these drunken blunders at the local ESPNzone bar? Is this 6th best outfielder or the 6th worse. maybe it's just a typo. I think Buster Olney might have a drug problem. Now I understand why they call it fantasy baseball. No offense but there is no way Juan Pierre is better than Matt Holliday/Ichiro Suzuki or has more fantasy value. Depending on the type of league Juan has a lot of "fantasy value" specifically for stolen bases. A standard 5x5 roto league uses the SB as one of the five offensive categories that you look to win. Since most fantasy scoring systems are variations from the original rotisserie system, stolen bases hold high value in most fantasy formats, clearly increasing Juan's value.
  18. Nationals sign Alex Cintron to a minor league deal, proving that even though they threw money at Jayson Werth, they are still the Nationals. Jon Heyman twitter
  19. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Feb 6, 2011 -> 03:59 PM) "Come see your first place White Sox..." Works for me, I've already got my seats! All those who come late to the first-place party can sit behind me!
  20. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Feb 6, 2011 -> 03:34 PM) The "all-in" epidemic is getting out of hand now. I feel like I hear this term every five seconds. Think of something else, people! Agreed. Good off-season marketing, but I really hope they go with a different campaign once they start playing ball.
  21. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Feb 5, 2011 -> 07:18 PM) They also got rid of Shawn Marcum, and Morrow has never been able to handle a full season. They made some great moves, but its not like they are suddenly one of the elite. I mean, their ace is Ricky Romero, that won't cut it in the AL East. Marcum is one of my favorite pitchers in the league, so I understand that him leaving opens up a hole, but I didn't say they were suddenly elite, I said I like what they've done and I could see them making the East more competitive than it has been in recent history. Who's left that's elite? The Red Sox and Phillies are the only teams that I consider in that category.
  22. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Feb 5, 2011 -> 07:32 PM) All you did was just throw out a bunch of best case scenarios. I'm one that thinks the Jays are in a great position right now. But they didn't make any "improvements." Any improvements they make will come from within. I'm really just hopeful that the AL East race will involve different teams than it has for the past decade+ so I like what the Jays and O's have done. The Jays and O's are both much better than they were when the 2010 season started and the Yankees and Rays are margainally worse. It gives me a little hope.
  23. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Feb 5, 2011 -> 05:15 PM) The Blue Jays did well setting themselves up for the long term in getting rid of Wells...but I gotta disagree with the concept of "Blue Jays improvements"...especially if Jose Bautista doesn't repeat his season. Addition by subtraction by getting rid of Wells, adding Rajai Davis, a full season of Yunel Escobar, and J.P. Arencibia (if he lives up to potential), a much improved bullpen and a bounceback year from Aaron Hill could mean a pretty solid team with the likes of Ricky Romero, Brandon Morrow, and Brett Cecil holding down the top of the rotation. I think they made some nice moves under the radar. It's a lot of "ifs" but so are the Orioles, Rays and Yankees.
  24. I think Oakland is going to come through and make the West competitive with Texas. The Orioles and Blue Jays improvements along with the Rays doing a good job of holding their ground will help pull the Yankees and Red Sox down to earth, and the White Sox and Twins will hold it down in the Central. This could be a great season for the Wild Card race in the AL. I could see a situation where teams from all 3 divisions are all in the thick of it.
  25. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Feb 4, 2011 -> 05:41 PM) Not with their rotation. Their offense should be nice. But after Matusz, their SP is fugly. Right after I posted that, I thought "who's pitching for them?" and looked up their depth chart... fugly doesn't even quite describe how laughable it is. I like their offense though, especially if Adam Jones reverts to 2009 form and Mark Reynolds can get his strike outs under control. 1 2B Brian Roberts 2 CF Adam Jones 3 RF Nick Markakis 4 DH Vladimir Guerrero 5 LF Luke Scott 6 1B Derrek Lee 7 3B Mark Reynolds 8 C Matt Wieters 9 SS J.J. Hardy
