  1. He was signed so that he would have a chance to earn a spot on the bench as a backup CF and all around OF defensive replacement. Basically they are considering him to fill the role that Mack had. I don't think this gives us any insight into what KW is thinking about the CF position.
  2. At the most, we can say that he improved in the second half. He went from absolutely horrible hitting in the first half to merely bad hitting in the second half. Pre-ASB: .192/.280/.324/.604 Post-ASB: .257/.301/.393/.694 That's not a good, or even decent second half. He improved, so maybe he'll continue to improve next year, but let's not pretend that he hit particularly well at any point last season.
  3. Whatever. The Sox will pick up his option and then...He Gone (to St. Louis).
  4. How many times have you seen a MLB player go to another team's playoff game and wear that team's hat? Of course people are making a fuss. That doesn't look good at all. I fully believe he'd rather play for the Cardinals. They are clearly his favorite team. I appreciate fan allegiance, but that should stop as soon as you become a PLAYER for another team. His favorite team should be the White Sox, don't you think? His agent was doing his job by playing this down. But don't expect Mark to re-sign with the Sox once his deal is up.
  5. If KW brings Roberts in to leadoff, do you think he'd be bringing him in as a LF or a CF? Like just about everyone else on this site, I want Pods gone. Are we sure that KW wants him gone too? Is KW sold on Anderson in CF? The reason I ask is that a lineup which includes Roberts in CF and Pods in LF would be scary bad.
  6. Me too, but the problem is that I don't think that is what Ozzie wants.
  7. Ozzie is very consistent. He doesn't learn from his mistakes; he repeats them.
  8. If he is as bad at that job as Cora was, then yes he will get a lot of richly deserved criticism.
  9. Really? Great defense is a positive. 14 errors certainly limits that positive. Abysmal hitting is a negative. $4.15M for a s***ty player is also a negative. How awful does this guy have to be before some Sox fans finally get it?
  10. My problem with Uribe has nothing to do with the shootings. In fact, everything I posted about him was about his play on the field. If he were a decent player, I'd have nothing but love for the guy. Unfortunately, he's pretty damned awful. Like I said, shootings or no, I can't see why any Sox fan wants this guy on our team.
  11. It is amazing how some fans still argue on behalf of Uribe. Let's set aside the murders. By any meaningful statistical measure, he was one of the worst hitters in baseball last year. If a SS plays great defense, he doesn't have to be a great hitter, or even a good hitter. But he needs to avoid being an awful hitter. For the last two seasons, Uribe has been an awful hitter. Please don't make me trot out his stats. It is painful to type them. This season, he added a bunch of errors to statistical record. That put a chink in the armor of his great defense. The bottom line is that Uribe is a very good defensive SS, but certainly not the best in baseball. His defense doesn't come close to making up for his horrific hitting. He is a major liability for this team. Great defense + 14 errors + abysmal hitting + $4.15M salary = a bad shortstop Why would any rational Sox fan want this guy to stay on the team?
  12. This yet another reason to get rid of this guy.
  13. Reality check. The Yankees wouldn't even consider Crede+McCarthy for ARod. Do you think the Yankees want to trade production for potential? Because the value of Crede and McCarthy is basically all potential. Crede has had one good season. And it was just good, certainly not great (.323 OBP and .506 SLG isn't great). McCarthy has had a handful of good starts in the majors and a bad 2005 season. Crede + McCarthy < ARod Crede + Garcia + Broadway < ARod That's the reality folks, and Cashman knows it.
  14. It makes a lot of sense to watch that DVD now to deal with the pain of a failed Sox season. I just hope that Sox fans aren't still talking next year about how we won it all in '85. Nostalgia is great, but I don't like using past success as an excuse for present failure. Unfortunately, I'm sure I'll still hear some apologists on this board talk about how the Sox are still "tired" and "hurt" next year, if we're not winning.
  15. We would have to give up way, way too much to get ARod. Garcia, Fields and throw-ins isn't going to be half enough. If the Yankees trade ARod, they aren't going to just give him away. KW loves big trades, but he isn't going to give the team away to get ARod. Nor should he.
  16. We don't need speed at the top of the lineup, we need OBP. For the love of god, we need guys who can get on base. With guys like Thome, Konerko, Dye and Crede in the middle of the lineup, it would be stupid to play small-ball. We need guys who will get on base so that those big bats can drive them in. In 2006, the offense was better than 2005. Pitching completely carried us in 2005. We can't count on that happening again. We need an offense that will maximize Runs Scored. More speed and small ball isn't going to score more runs.
  17. The Sox chances of getting into the playoffs. What are you talking about?
  18. What a great game! Time for another standing ovation for this team that is rolling over and dying before our very eyes (and has been for far too long).
  19. Actually, I believe what was reported was that he was definitely gone for the rest this season (including postseason). This is what I found: Sep 14 Liriano does not have structural or ligament damage to his left arm, an MRI scan revealed. The Twins called the test results "favorable" and said he has begun a rehabilitation program with the goal of being ready for the start of the 2007 season. The Twins' left-hander left Wednesday's 1-0 loss to Oakland in the third inning after feeling a pop in his arm. It was his first start since missing a month because of a strained ligament near his elbow. Sep 16 Steve Herrick, of Minnesota.Twins.MLB.com, reports Minnesota Twins SP Francisco Liriano (elbow) will likely get a second opinion on his elbow in order to find out what is causing him problems. While the original diagnosis said he wouldn't require any surgery, general manager Terry Ryan said he wouldn't be surprised if some kind of minor surgery is needed.
  20. Is that speculation or has that been reported?
  21. It doesn't matter how bad he's been this year. Once he gets into the rotation, he'll turn everything around. edit: whoops, I meant rotation
  22. Reason 17 this team deserves to be booed: They should be ashamed of themselves for the way they've played in the second half, AND THEY AREN'T.
