The AJP- Class act...
QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Dec 11, 2013 -> 10:17 AM) I'd say starting such a thread opened the floodgates. If posting anything AJ does that is a nice gesture opens the floodgates to people who have never even met him saying how awful he is based on what they read on the internet, and then totally dismissing anything positive about him on the same internet, you are correct.

The Value of Dayan Viciedo
QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Dec 11, 2013 -> 10:07 AM) Yes, f*** me for wanting a DH who puts up better than .260/.300/440. He can certainly get better, but if a guy is going to DH full time, I want him to be a good hitter. Yet you have no problem with a DH by committee putting up much worse numbers.

Baseball winter meetings thread
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 11, 2013 -> 10:16 AM) Bob Nightengale @BNightengale 23m One GM says he was told in talks that Shin-Soo Choo would cost $140 million over 7 years. He's about out of teams that would even consider going there.

Sox acquire Adam Eaton from ARZ, deal Santiago, Jacobs
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 11, 2013 -> 10:15 AM) Dan Hayes @DanHayesCSN 6m Adam Eaton on getting away from energetic style in '13: I was too focused on struggling and trying to get back into the groove of things. Adam Eaton said he thinks he'll a little bit of a "Kenny Lofton/Lenny Dysktra mix." #WhiteSox Chuck Garfien @ChuckGarfien 8m Eaton: "Get on base at all costs. I don't care if I get hit in the head or hit on the ankle." Adam Eaton: "I'm a scrappy, dirtbag guy." If he is a Lofton/Dykstra mix, it's an unreal trade. I would rather he not reach base getting hit.

The AJP- Class act...
QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Dec 11, 2013 -> 10:07 AM) When did my post call him an asshole? It laughed at the notion that choosing a jersey number makes someone a class act. It opened the flood gates.

Hahn may have bigger plans for Eaton and Elmore
QUOTE (IowaSoxFan @ Dec 11, 2013 -> 09:38 AM) Ben Zobrist was also a guy obtained from the Astros that couldn't crack their roster, it seems they would like to have him now. The Astros were up against their 40 man limit and had to outright him so they could protect Wojciekoski and Domingo Santana. They also had to leave Carlos Perez exposed and there are quite a few people here that think he would be a valuable selection. Ben Zobrist was traded mid season for Aubrey Huff as the Astros were trying to make a playoff push. He wasn't waived from a team that lost well over 100 games.

Sox acquire Adam Eaton from ARZ, deal Santiago, Jacobs
QUOTE (bulokis @ Dec 11, 2013 -> 10:01 AM) At first I did not like the deal. I did not know anything about Eaton but when I saw KW's interview on MLB network, KW sounds so giddy about the move that was about to happen. The last time KW was this happy was when we acquired Pods and changed the whole team dynamics. I am not saying we will win the WS but Im buying on what we are doing. KW was pretty giddy about the return for Nick Swisher and Javy Vazquez. I think the Sox wouldn't make trades that weren't strickly salary dumps unless he was giddy about them.

The Value of Dayan Viciedo
QUOTE (Jake @ Dec 11, 2013 -> 10:01 AM) The only version of Viciedo that is likely to make it to the 2015 roster is one that you wouldn't mind DHing He can be the primary DH, but will still be able to fill in in the OF and probably 1B. Viciedo is a year younger than Adam Eaton.

Hawk is a Ford Frick finalist
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 11, 2013 -> 09:56 AM) Hopefully Hawk is still alive when he gets it. Yeah. I actually felt the same way about Santo. If you are going to vote for him when he is dead, you might as well let him enjoy it while he is alive. Nothing regarding his worthiness will have changed.

Official 2013-2014 NCAA Football Thread
QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Dec 11, 2013 -> 09:00 AM) So that's basically a public admission that "We are a basketball school, football success does not matter", right? With the co-ordinator, I don't know. Is it the scheme or lack of talent, and is the lack of talent his fault? IMO, bringing a lame duck head coach back is all you need to know about what they think of their programs. No way a basketball coach gets away with that much failure. And if the reason is they don't think they could attract the right guy right now, why is it going to get better with more failure?

The Value of Dayan Viciedo
QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Dec 11, 2013 -> 09:45 AM) Pretty sure we're done here You are the one saying his lifetime slash line makes him a horrible DH. So you are all over the place.

Hawk is a Ford Frick finalist
QUOTE (flavum @ Dec 11, 2013 -> 09:08 AM) Didn't make it. He'll be eligible again in three years. Three...long....years. That blows. He's going to make it. Why make him wait? Do they only give it to 1 guy a year?

The AJP- Class act...
QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Dec 11, 2013 -> 09:39 AM) Conversations typically evolve. You can have a conversation about the price of corn and end up talking about how terrible the Hindenburg was. Unfortunately, due to his history and personality, this thread evolved that way. Evolved? It was post #3.

The Value of Dayan Viciedo
QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Dec 11, 2013 -> 09:36 AM) The OP suggested Viciedo as a full time DH next year. That's what I was referencing. Beyond that, I think the Diamondbacks paid way, way, way, way too much for Mark Trumbo. Why is it you think Viciedo cannot be any better than he has been? There certainly have been flashes of brilliance. And you know as well as anyone, Viciedo is not going to be a guy who has no need for a glove any time soon.

The AJP- Class act...
QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Dec 11, 2013 -> 09:32 AM) I didn't pay close attention, but I mainly noticed people arguing the merits of it being a class act. AJ is a dick and an asshole but he is a good player. Frankly, I think that's the highest compliment you can pay the guy. Give it up. The thread was about AJ wearing Hawk's number. If you don't think THAT is a class act, fine, say something about that. Not about some other crap.

The Value of Dayan Viciedo
QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Dec 11, 2013 -> 09:29 AM) Yeah, I'm not in the whole arguing just to argue thing today. It's a bit of everything Dick. If you are really content with a .740 OPS from a DH, then I'll let you be happy with it. Personally, I think that's terrible and want nothing to do with it. If he proves this year that he can hit really well this year and the Sox come up with another outfielder from somewhere, then by all means, let him DH full time, f*** it. I'm not counting on it, and I don't want the White Sox to go out of their way to acquire a guy to be a full time DH, instead using it to keep guys fresh while keeping bats in the lineup and improving your ability to play matchups. If you want to argue with that, go ahead. If you are alternating DH's you will be lucky to get a .700 OPS from that position. Besides, Viciedo is years away from being strictly a DH. Keep in mind Mark Trumbo coming off a .234/.294/.741 year netted Hector Santiago and a guy who was a top 10 prospect last year in Tyler Skaggs as a slugger, who really should be a DH.

Hahn may have bigger plans for Eaton and Elmore
QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Dec 11, 2013 -> 09:18 AM) I have always really liked Eaton in general but playing in Reno can really help a hitter. The ball flies out of that place. May have something to do with the success even though I really do like Eaton and think it's a great move. That's the problem. Good hitters put up good numbers. Bad hitters put up good numbers. That is probably why there is some divide on him in scouting reports. The Sox finally have someone Keith Law likes. For once, I hope he's right.

Hahn may have bigger plans for Eaton and Elmore
QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Dec 11, 2013 -> 09:14 AM) He's part of the " Lollipop guild" that Hahns been getting, Leury 5'7", Eaton 5'8" Elmore 5'9" . This would have worked much better had Guillen still been the manager since the "lollipop guild" belongs in the "Land of Oz". They should all take a picture standing next to Adam Dunn.

The Value of Dayan Viciedo
QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Dec 11, 2013 -> 09:09 AM) At the expense of getting other guys rest and playing match ups, which (theoretically) improves performance. First you say having a full time DH is ridiculous, then you say his slash line is frightening for a DH, then it's match ups ( and I don't know where I could find average DH numbers) and giving guys rest. Guys can still sit on the bench and get real rest, and a DH doesn't have to play 162. If Viciedo reaches his potential, or comes close to it, it is a bat you want in the line up every day. If it's DH fine. He could also still play the OF occassionally and maybe 1B.

The Value of Dayan Viciedo
QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Dec 11, 2013 -> 08:58 AM) If the White Sox can acquire someone with the capabilities of David Ortiz or Frank Thomas or Jim Thome or Edgar Martinez or whoever, then I'm ok with it, unless you are comparing Dayan Viciedo to those guys. There are always exceptions Dick. Viciedo, for his career, is at .264/.306/.432/.738. The idea of starting that at DH on a day to day basis is frightening. I bet the slash line you presented for Viciedo compares favorably to the average DH in 2013, and I think he will get better.

The Value of Dayan Viciedo
QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Dec 11, 2013 -> 08:58 AM) If the White Sox can acquire someone with the capabilities of David Ortiz, then I'm ok with it, unless you are comparing Dayan Viciedo to David Ortiz. There are always exceptions Dick. You were the one who said using a full time DH was ridiculous. There have been several that were outstanding. And while many say Viciedo is what he is and Adam Eaton is going to be really good, they might want to keep in mind, Viciedo is actually younger than Eaton.

The Value of Dayan Viciedo
QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Dec 11, 2013 -> 08:56 AM) Hopefully by that point, everybody. Using a full time DH is ridiculous Yeah, the Red Sox using Big Papi, the White Sox when the had Thomas and then Thome...what a joke.

Hahn may have bigger plans for Eaton and Elmore
If you really think Jake Elmore is better than Gordon Beckham all I can say is.........WOW.
-
Hahn may have bigger plans for Eaton and Elmore
Wasn't Elmore acquired off waivers from the Astros? If he can't play for the Astros, and looking at his stats in the minors, if anything, it makes me pause concerning Eaton's minor league stats. A report on the trade said the Sox had interest in Kendrick. I wonder if that was to play 3B, or would have involved trading Beckham for a 3B.

The AJP- Class act...
QUOTE (Wanne @ Dec 10, 2013 -> 09:31 PM) wow....what an ugly thread. Well it was just a thread about AJ doing something nice and some will have nothing to do with that, they have to slam him every chance they get. It would be like next month with Frank gets his HOF election thread and a bunch of people went on there to say he was really an egotistical, crappy teammate who was only concerned about his stats. It would be uncalled for. The thread was about AJ possibly wearing Hawk's number, not about whether or not he kneed a trainer 10 years ago. Seriously, as bad as some think AJ is, probably most of the guys they never say anything about are worse.
