QUOTE (balfanman @ Dec 10, 2013 -> 10:35 AM) I can understand this, but haven't the GM's of other teams been on there? The other GMs have the authority KW has. Hahn does not. I wish they would let him do his job. I agree there is no need for KW to be there. Make Hahn legit and have him do the interviews.

2013-2014 NFL Thread
Maybe the learning the offense has some merit, but it is funny McCown can come in right away and hit the ground running. If you had to choose between the 2, there is no question Cutler is better, but if you determine this offense makes a journeyman like McCown this efficient, and his performance isn't a fluke, the question is how much of your cap do you want to commit to Cutler when you have half the roster as free agents after the season.

Sox could target Adrian Nieto
QUOTE (IowaSoxFan @ Dec 10, 2013 -> 08:44 AM) Because Nieto is 23 in A ball and Perez is 22 and has made it to AAA. Nieto would be completely overmatched against big league pitching, at least Perez might be able to adjust given his experience at different levels. How many picks do the Sox get to make? Do they still have two slots open since Bellisario and Paulino signed after 12/2? Check out the recent history of the rule 5 draft. The Sox will be lucky if they actually draft a guy who sticks. The fact is neither is probably ready to take a roster spot. Maybe Nieto is a guy who the Sox feel could be decent in a couple of years, and more likely a guy his former team would either say keep him if you like or work out a trade.

Teams begging Sox for Chris Sale
QUOTE (hi8is @ Dec 9, 2013 -> 07:16 PM) I'm starting to get antsy for March. My baby boy will be watching his first sox game on the 31st... At the age of three weeks old. Dope. That is dope.

Teams begging Sox for Chris Sale
QUOTE (ewokpelts @ Dec 9, 2013 -> 05:54 PM) No team would add that much dead weight even for sale. Hence why I said" that'll shut most teams up" Considering Sale's contract moving forward and he will average about what a guy like Vargas got for 7 years, I think a team would have no problem taking the one year left on Dunn, but it would cost the Sox prospects, which makes zero sense for the White Sox.

Teams begging Sox for Chris Sale
QUOTE (RockRaines @ Dec 9, 2013 -> 04:10 PM) I've heard every arm is on the market, except Sale. They have signed 2 free agent pitchers and were in on Josh Johnson. It is pretty obvious what they are looking to move.

Teams begging Sox for Chris Sale
If you think the White Sox need to totally rebuild, trading Sale gets it on the fast track. You acquire at least 2 or 3 drafts worth of top talent who have already had minor league seasoning. If you think a re-tool is all that is needed, you keep Sale. If its a waste to have a top end closer on a bad team, isn't it a waste to have Chris Sale pitching on 90 loss teams?

Teams begging Sox for Chris Sale
QUOTE (daggins @ Dec 9, 2013 -> 10:35 AM) I'd put it at like 5% chance Sale gets moved. Teams are pretty hesitant, generally, to give up young, very talented guys, and there is simply no need to trade Sale yet. The problem with a Sale trade is other teams want at least a fair deal. The White Sox would want one where they didn't even have to think about it.

Teams begging Sox for Chris Sale
How would trading one pitcher off a roster of a team that lost 99 games possibly set that team back 5 years? Lets not get carried away. Sale pitches once every 5 days. I wouldn't trade him unless blown away, but all the rebuilders if they did trade him for prospects, would get their wish. The team would still be crappy, but the farm system probably goes to top 10.

Teams begging Sox for Chris Sale
QUOTE (southside hitman @ Dec 9, 2013 -> 09:29 AM) Buster Olney @Buster_ESPN 49s Diamondbacks are among the teams with the most serious trade interest in Chris Sale -- IF they would agree to part with him. A big if. Bradley, Owings, Davidson, Skaggs, Delgado anyone? They actually have prospects at positions that make the most sense, but this can't be what Hahn would consider to be a fair trade. He has to feel he won by a wide margin.

Teams begging Sox for Chris Sale
QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Dec 9, 2013 -> 09:13 AM) Whatever. The point being you need a big package. You only trade him if you are getting an absolute overpay of epic proportions. You said you need a big package.

Hahn says trade talks have heated up.
Whether they want to or not, for the White Sox to ever have this "sustained success" which seems to be the goal, they will eventually be forced to join the teams handing out "ridiculous" contracts.

2013-14 off season player movement thread
So the Japanese team now determines the amount they will accept and any team that is willing to pay that will be able to negotiate with the player. This should save the big market teams some money.

Hahn says trade talks have heated up.
JR wins mege miliioms, signs Choo, trades an extra OF in a package for Headley. Signs Headley to an extension, and suddenly the White Sox offense looks a lot better. jR's bank account.....not so much.

Hahn says trade talks have heated up.
QUOTE (Lillian @ Dec 8, 2013 -> 08:22 AM) A few things to remember about Choo: He is terrible vs. left handed pitching. He was hit by pitches a league leading 26 times last year, and that's not a good way to generate a high OBP. One of those pitches is likely to land him on the DL. He is not a good defensive outfielder, especially in CF. And of course, he will cost way too much money, and want too long of a contract. I'd still like to see a one year deal, at a reasonable price, for a certain other former Indian, left handed, center fielder. Dare I mention his name? With these crazy contracts, that gamble is looking better every day. He's the same age as Choo, and is a better outfielder, even after the knee surgery. He's also better suited to bat in the middle of the order, if he's really healthy, of course. He will probably be much more interested in guaranteed playing time, than a long term deal, as he will want to prove he is healthy, in order to re-establish his value. The Sox are in a position to take that gamble, as he would not be blocking anyone, and would not cost a draft pick, as I mentioned one of the several times that I brought it up. I know some will attack me for belaboring the point, but these ridiculous contracts provide a new perspective on the idea. What would the Sox have to lose? I think Choo is the better fit of all the free agent OF. You could play him in RF and move Garcia to CF. I think a problem the Sox would have even if Sizemore could play is I would image he would probably have to DH occassionally. Balta would have an anuerism if the Sox picked up another guy who would have to DH.
