Special thread dedicated to shots at Wise
QUOTE (beautox @ Apr 7, 2009 -> 05:24 PM) i was at the game in the lower bowl (sec 127 row 27) and it felt like everyone down there was calling for his head and screaming for anderson; and rightfully so Anderson could just as easily look as bad as wise and have a significant upside in CF and with the bat. Regardless of wise or anderson neither of them should be hitting lead off. Getz and Fields or Getz and Ramirez or bust. I was getting at that earlier. Unless Wise performs a miracle and becomes Rickey Henderson Jr. he's going to get quite a beatdown from the home crowd, which really is unfair and I hope KW and Ozzie realize that they are the people responsible for this and the booing is indirectly directed (if that makes any sense) at them. Dewayne Wise, who seems like he's a pretty good guy, is going to have to go through hell because of their decisions. Do Dewayne a favor and move him to 8th or 9th in the line up if he must play. He will have a lot lifted off his shoulders and will give him a better shot at success. The guy is going to try to change those boos to cheers and try to hit 3 or 4 homers in one AB. That will not work. Its only going to get uglier if they keep him at the top.

Amidst opening day fervor
QUOTE (kwolf68 @ Apr 7, 2009 -> 03:55 PM) Some have complained that Kenny has failed to get the part needed, but it sounds like to me he is as frustratated as anyone that we have to start with Wise in CF. I think the options out there are too costly, or are not that much of an upgrade anyway. He was probably hoping for an in house solution (Lillibridge), but that never came to fruition. Getz is not a leadoff hitter, he is a prototypical #2. Alexei isn't leadoff material either. Nor Brian Anderson. Jerry Owens was jettisoned to the softball beer leagues leaving us with DeWayne Wise. I think Kenny knows a real legit leadoff hitter who could hit you .280/.380+ with 25+ steal potential makes this team all the more dangerous and don't think he hasn't tried to right that ship. Be patient...I have a feeling Kenny will get the right guy to fill that spot sooner rather than later...Wise is going to be too much to overcome. Fine, he can't get a prototypical leadoff guy. That's still no excuse for putting Dewayne Wise, he the 31 year old with a .214 career batting average and a .254 career OBP, in the leadoff spot. There is no excuse for it. None. Its beyond stupid and ridiculous.

Special thread dedicated to shots at Wise
No one should be angry with Wise. He's doing the best he can, he just isn't very good and is certainly not a top of the order kind of guy. Any anger or criticism should be directed at the two guys who put him in a position where anything but failure is a longshot-Ozzie and KW.

Official Opening Day Post Game Thread
Fields had a great game as obviously,Thome. I feel sorry for Wise, he's in over his head and its not his fault. He's already getting the crap booed out of him. They need to end this experiment now. Also the new out of town scoreboard is very nice if you are close enough to read it.

Wassermann outrighted to AAA
QUOTE (JPN366 @ Apr 6, 2009 -> 02:31 PM) I didn't know that being 28 for a pitcher was the end of the road. 28 with as limited success in the major leagues as he has had, with an organization that values power arms, the writing is on the wall. KW would rather bring up a guy who throws hard and have him get torched than a guy like Wassermann. He's good AAA fodder, but that's it.

Plaxico to Bears?
If the Bears signed Plaxico and there was one problem, everyone involved in signing him should immediately be fired. I really think there is zero chance Angelo is even considering bringing this knucklehead in. T. O. is an angel compared to this guy. Character should count for something. It amazes me how many people on this board want him in a Bears uniform, like he'll really be a changed person by all of this. If anything, judging by his traffic offenses and responses, he still thinks he's invincible. Avoiding a lengthy jail sentence and/or a lengthy suspension by the NFL would only make his head grow larger and he would act like even a bigger idiot.

Sox Sign Tim Raines Jr.
QUOTE (JPN366 @ Apr 6, 2009 -> 12:59 PM) Raines Jr. was released and signed with the Newark Bears. Where he'll be managed by his dad.

Time to bring back Frank
QUOTE (rangercal @ Apr 6, 2009 -> 11:36 AM) If you compare White Sox Careers: Thomas has a higher OBP, OPS and SLG %. He also has more Hits,Walks, Total Bases, Runs,RBI, HR,Doubles and extra base hits. Collins has Thomas on Batting Average and Stolen bases. Checkmate What kind of fielder was Collins. Frank may be the best hitter in White Sox history, of course the eras issue will always come up, but Frank with the leather was scary.

Sox Move Opening Day to Tuesday
QUOTE (Jenks Heat @ Apr 6, 2009 -> 11:01 AM) Sun = 15 to 20 degrees v. today's overcast Also the snow that we got is more like an inch or two of slush. The field will be more playable tomorrow. It is unfortunate for those that can't change their days off but I think it was for the best. I also hate the off day after Opening Day. Its 37 right now and the Sun is trying to come out. The big snow wasn't so big, in fact downtown had nothing. There was a dusting on the dirt by my house on the Near North Side. There wasn't anymore than that all the way to USCF as I can see it out of my office. Tomorrow is supposed to be better, but not significantly. They received some bad information about today.

Are the Sox moving Opening Day to Tuesday?
QUOTE (wilmot825 @ Apr 6, 2009 -> 11:16 AM) 2000 they were in Seattle....cuz I watched that game on ESPN, Buehrle had blond hair and faced Sweaty Freddy. I meant their home opener. Just remember, the season is starting a week later this year. This crappy weather can hit at any time.

Are the Sox moving Opening Day to Tuesday?
In 2000, the Sox actually opened at night. I think it was a 6 pm start. It was around 80 degrees that day.

Time to bring back Frank
QUOTE (Texsox @ Apr 6, 2009 -> 08:54 AM) Frank never hired Boras as an agent. Never went to his own doctors instead of the team's choice. And was dumped anyways. Frank went to his own doctor. His doctor gave Jerry Manuel a note that he didn't have to run some drill in spring training.

Sox Move Opening Day to Tuesday
QUOTE (JorgeFabregas @ Apr 6, 2009 -> 09:31 AM) Flipped image to make it fit. Tomorrow is supposed to be high thirties and sunny: http://www.weather.com/outlook/homeandgard...from=hrly_graph I would think 3-5 degrees difference is nothing to the thousands that won't be able to make it, but once again, I don't blame the White Sox and actually applaude them making a decision sooner rather than later. I just think Skilling has lost his touch. He predicts extreme conditions more than anyone anymore. WGN was the weather group thinking as much as 6 inches on wet heavy snow, and there is no more than a dusting. I'm sure if they knew yesterday what they know now, there would have been a game today.

Sox Move Opening Day to Tuesday
Its a shame they canceled the game today. I've been to games in far worse conditions. Tomorrow will be better supposedly, but just a hair. I feel for those who got screwed by this, but don't blame the White Sox for canceling yesterday. I think they need to walk away from Mr. overestimate, Tom Skilling. He used to be the master, now he just is extreme.

Minor League Catch-All Thread
The White Sox signed Jimmy Gobble for Charlotte. Released by KC and I believe Texas doesn't sound good on a pitcher's resume. Once highly thought of, now just hanging on by a thread.

Getaway day...AZ vs. CHISOX (4/4) Garland vs. Count
BA and Wise now have the same batting average this spring. I think BA has the higher slugging and OBP, and is the superior defender, so it makes perfect sense Wise gets the job.

Time to bring back Frank
QUOTE (rangercal @ Apr 4, 2009 -> 03:39 PM) DO I NEED TO EDIT MY POST? I never said ANYTHING about him DHing. I was thinking more along the lines of a 1 day contract. Do I need to edit mine? What does that accomplish? Its a silly gimmick that means nothing.

Time to bring back Frank
The Sox have a DH. Frank has nowhere to play. If by bring him back you mean not to play but to retire as a White Sox, I fail to see what that accomplishes. I'm sure when the time is right, Frank will be offered some sort of role with the White Sox. Maybe he can be an "ambassador" like Fisk. Even Fisk didn't know what that meant.

Dewayne Wise Named Full-time Starting CF/Leadoff hitter
The latest article about Wise says the White Sox don't want him to change his approach. They don't want him to take more pitches or try to draw more walks. I guess its one of those " don't mess with what got you here" type of things. I would think a guy with a .214 career average with a .254 career OBP might want to try another approach. It seems even the White Sox are certain how this is going to go. Why are they even bothering? Why does Wise have to prove the obvious and be a disaster, perhaps costing the White Sox a precious win or 3 before they put him where he belongs?

BEARS GET CUTLER!!!
All I know is the Bears were going nowhere before this deal. If you think they were in good shape with their draft picks and Orton at QB, I think you were kidding yourself. Cutler may not lead the Bears to Super Bowl after Super Bowl, but rolling the dice was the right thing to do.

BEARS GET CUTLER!!!
QUOTE (Leonard Zelig @ Apr 3, 2009 -> 02:53 PM) Why does one team have to win a trade? It seems to me that the Bears got something they haven't had in my life time and the Broncos recieved good compensation for it. It's way to early to decide if it was a good trade, but both teams appear to have improved their positions. Not only that, but the draft picks have yet to play an NFL game.

BEARS GET CUTLER!!!
QUOTE (chunk23 @ Apr 3, 2009 -> 02:35 PM) Plaxico was just released. Comes with a lot of baggage, but would you see him as a fit here? It's no question the Bears need to add a top WR. Plaxico is going to jail. Do people remember Tank Johnson? He's probably the biggest reason Angelo will not take on the baggage for Burress or Jones.

BEARS GET CUTLER!!!
QUOTE (T R U @ Apr 3, 2009 -> 02:33 PM) Ok, I understand the Bears have not been good drafters in the first round but that still doesn't mean you can dismiss two first round picks like they don't mean anything when they are probably the most valued commodities in the NFL. Also, I would just like to point out that Jay Cutler is NOT an all pro, that was Peyton Manning and Drew Brees. He was voted to the pro bowl, much like Brett Favre was. I think they overpaid, but they had to. Cutler is the best QB they have had in a long time. I know he wouldn't have put up the numbers he put up in Denver if he were playing for the Bears in 2008. He's going to need another receiver or 2. He's going to need Pace to stay healthy. He's going to need Williams to make a transition to RT and stay healthy, but there is no doubt the QB position has been upgraded, and considering his age, if he stays healthy, there is no need to upgrade it again for many, many years.

BEARS GET CUTLER!!!
QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Apr 3, 2009 -> 12:54 PM) Probably not, but when you get a QB like Cutler, you got to surround him with guys and the Bears lost a couple picks and I believe FS has now become there #1 need. The Bears also still have a good group of vets that I think would keep a guy like Jones in line. Than again, the WR corps is very young so maybe it would be bad to put a guy like Jones around Hester/Bennett. Clearly Jones is the better long-term solution over Holt, but Holt is the steady veteran that could really be the glue. Jones was on pace for 1000 yards, is an elite athlete for a guy his size and seemed to be really finally come close to his potential and would be a badass target along with Olsen in the red zone (combine Olsen/Jones and Forte and you are talking about a ridiculous red zone offense, imo). After Tank Johnson, there is no way Angelo signs Matt Jones. No way. Some other team my give him another chance, but Jerry isn't going to take the chance to get burned again like that.

Are the Sox moving Opening Day to Tuesday?
Looking at Tom Skilling's 7 day forecast, Tuesday doesn't look much better than Monday.
