QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 26, 2006 -> 08:12 PM) Ozzie sounds like such an idiot when he says how the Twins were involved in the game, and the Sox weren't. Didn't Ozzie get and take all the credit for the Sox intensity last season? Why doesn't he get the blame when Hawk, who it takes things to be beyond obvious, to rip on anything White Sox related, says the Sox lack intensity?

QUOTE(GOD @ Aug 26, 2006 -> 08:05 PM) Tigers losing 8-5 maybe we can catch them They have been begging the Sox to catch them, but the Sox just suck right now. It will be interesting to see how the Tigers fare against the Yankees next week. Minnesota may be leading the division.

How many pitches has Santana thrown?

QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Aug 26, 2006 -> 08:00 PM) Good thing Mackowiak started in CF, otherwise we wouldn't have all this offense. If Anderson is in CF, this may be an entirely different game right now.

QUOTE(GOD @ Aug 26, 2006 -> 07:58 PM) I have a serious question. Who calls the pitch selection, is it Ozzie or the catchers? You should know, you're God for crying out loud. Ozzie has stated several times, he doesn't know how to call a game, the catcher calls it, but the pitcher can always shake him off.

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Aug 26, 2006 -> 07:56 PM) I'd love to know which stats it is he looks at. I really would. I'd love to know why Iguchi still gets days off against righties and plays against the lefty the next day, when he's hitting .230 against lefties. I'd love to know why Rob Mackowiak plays against lefties, or why he plays CF in general. I'd love to know why we don't try someone else leading off, especially with Podsednik's performance lately. Maybe he waits until he already made out the line-up to look at them, but everytime he makes a move during a game, he's looking at a book. I think that's one of the reasons he's so lefty/lefty, righty/righty happy.

QUOTE(jamalmanburg @ Aug 26, 2006 -> 07:54 PM) Maybe I phrased that poorly... but take Frankenstein (Freddy). He comes into camp late, out of shape, and high... and ozzie defends him. Bob Jenks comes in looking better than last year, getting guys out, and he needs to get into shape. Jenks was woefully out of shape at the beginning of spring training, and was throwing the ball 91. He deserved the crap Ozzie gave him.

Ozzie's right, McCarthy is bad. He certainly can't hang with Buerhle, Contreras, Vazquez and Garcia.

QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 26, 2006 -> 07:50 PM) I like Mackowiak, especially how he said he was drunk at Game 2 of the WS last year. I feel awful for him, as he has no business being in CF. His addition to the lineup tonight has been great. I love how Rongey defending it by saying Ozzie was playing a hunch. That's bulls***, as Ozzie has been going by the book on almost every move he's made this year. For those of you who attend games, watch Ozzie during the course of a game. For a manager who supposedly manages by a hunch or by the gut, he sure does look at a lot of stats.

QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Aug 26, 2006 -> 07:49 PM) I'm sorry, but would someone please remind me which pitcher went 8 or 9 innings against Santana in a 1-1 duel last September? Didn't Garcia lose a 1-0 game to Santana while pitching a 1 hitter.

QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 26, 2006 -> 07:48 PM) As someone said yesterday, maybe all the sweets he's eating during the game will make him heavier and add a few mph to his pitches. I think BMac should go to Bud Selig's office, take off his shirt and ask for an exception to the no Steroid rule. Bud couldn't say no.

QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 26, 2006 -> 07:39 PM) I'm so f***ing sick of the comments in the media that go like this: "This isn't a big series. No matter what, our season won't be decided when the series is over". The Twins sure act like its a big series. Maybe thats why their kicking the Sox ass again. If the Sox continue to fall apart, it will be interesting to see what KW does with the roster. I don't think he'll make a lot of changes, but I think he will make a couple big moves.

If there is any hope, Santana isn't his best tonight.

If Hawk is questioning the White Sox intensity level, you know there's a huge problem. I also don't hear Hawk say how Ozzie will figure everything out anymore. I guess he saves it for when the Sox have a comfortable lead.

This game is over. Hopefully Buerhle will have something tomorrow or a sweep is assured. This game makes it 7 out of 8 the Twins have taken from the Sox, including the last 5 at USCF. Too bad they didn't require playoff ticket money to be due yesterday instead of the 31st. I bet a lot of people drop out.

Have the Sox ever scored 5 runs in a game that Santana was the opposing pitcher?

Did you read that Freddy has been throwing side session recently, and that he usually doesn't throw them? Evidently it is making him stronger and adding a couple MPH to his fastball.

I think the Sox should trade at least 2 of their starters, maybe 3. Get a lot of prospects and sign a guy like Lidle. If the Sox are going to have guys pitch like #5 starters, they should pay them like one.

They always mention Sandy's avg. with the Dodgers, they fail to mention he hit .240 for them after April 20 and he doesn't walk at all. He really is worthless.

QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Aug 26, 2006 -> 07:06 PM) Greg, ask Hawk what he thinks of Brian. I think him and DJ already think he's one of the 3 best defensive outfielders in all of baseball. Offensively he's hitting over .280 or so since the ASB (IIRC). The guy is a top notch prospect who continues to get better and he is one of the few guys that is actually doing things right. You don't expect a 9 hole hitter to dominate, you expect them to play top notch defense and be able to bunt and ocassionally come through. The past month BA has probably had more big hits than anyone not named Jermaine Dye or Joe Crede. There was a Baseball Prospectus piece a month ago or so, and their numbers had Anderson having the greatest year defensively ever, better than Willie Mays. Mack in CF has cost the Sox at least 2 runs tonight.

QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 26, 2006 -> 05:53 PM) Minorsfan nailed this one. The Sox called up Owens and put him on the DL. According to my source, they didn't have to send anyone down for him. Owens is now being paid the MLB minimum though, so congrats to him. You would think they would have to make a roster spot available for him. This works out better.

I think throwing some lefties at him is worth a shot. They haven't had much success the other way, although you need to keep Minnesota from scoring runs, and Mack in CF is as bad of idea as Ozzie has ever had. Anderson needs to play.
