QUOTE(jphat007 @ Aug 26, 2005 -> 09:37 PM) Dude. He was throwing 98 on the corners and dropping a sick curve. DO you know how baseball works? Have you played? Do you know how hard it is to hit a 97 mph fastball low and away right on the corner that will be called a strike? It's next to impossible. Konerko took 2 fastball strikes, the first one right down broadway, then swings at a hook in the dirt. It was a clueless terrible AB.

The Mariners are very protective of this guy, as they should be. I'm sure he's on a pretty strict pitch count. At the very least, Sox hitters need to work the count.

QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 26, 2005 -> 08:19 PM) That's the understatement of the year. After a while, you have to realize that the offensive coordinators aren't too blame.....but Jerry Angelo is because this offense has no talent. It boggled my mind when they gave Angelo the extension. He must work real cheap.

Timo made a stupid mistake, but Everett or Konerko would have had to get a hit to score him. Everett looked like he had no chance.

Great Konerko Quote
So they no longer care about the people who doubt them. Nice. Is there anyone on this board that doesn't have some doubt they won't be able to go all the way? I know taking 2 out of 3 against a depleted Minnesota team got rid of some of the jiitters, but c'mon. Konerko needs to start concentrating on driving runners home who are in scoring position with less than 2 out, and maybe continue playing baseball when the umpire rules the ball fair. He already tried playing GM saying they don't want any reinforcements, then goes and compliments a reinforcement on yesterday's win. Now if you doubt them, he doesn't want you. Sorry, when you are supporting a team that hasn't done squat in 88 years, doubt becomes a large part of the equation. On the other hand, maybe they really don't want the doubters. They seem to play better in front of a bunch of empty blue seats. When they play as bad as they played the previous 2 weeks, I believe Mark Buerhle even questioned the effort, they deserve to get booed. If Konerko doesn't like it, he can go find another job his high school diploma will allow him to do.

freddy starting game one?
It depends on the opponent, and on how these guys finish up. I don't think Buerhle should be pitching game 1 if they are playing Oakland. 1993, McDowell started Gm 1, and he did win the Cy that year, but at the time both Alvarez and Bere were pitching much better than him. Ozzie remembers.

Minneshooowda Series
It didn't hurt that Stewart and Jones were missing the last 2 games, although Jones wouldn't have faced Buerhle. And Hunter not playing was a break. The offense is going to have to come out of it. Its unlikely the pitching staff will hold playoff teams to 0 and 1 run every game or at least enough games to win each series. If they can get back to scoring 4 or 5 runs consistently it would take a huge load off of the pitchers.

QUOTE(GreatScott82 @ Aug 26, 2005 -> 01:04 AM) El-duque needs to bring his A game. He is pitching against a young phenom in Felix Hernandez, and with our offense- El-duque can only afford to give up 2-3 runs. Although Seattle is having a bad season- they still have Sexon, Ichiru and Beltre and thats still a dangerous trio. I think El Duque has to pitch a shutout, or give up less than 2 runs to have a chance at winning. Our offense lately+Hernandez+being on the west coast=not many runs.

Crede
BTW, how many unsuccessful bunt attempts does Crede have to have before Ozzie realizes he cannot bunt. Today's effort gets him injured, which turned out to be a blessing because it got him out of the game and the runner, who never would have advanced if Crede stayed in, moved over.

Didn't KW have a deal for Bellhorn worked out last season for Kelly Wunsch and then Kelly got hurt?
-
Crede
QUOTE(GoSoxGo @ Aug 25, 2005 -> 07:18 PM) Well, first Burroughs would have to clear waivers and then Kenny would have to make a trade for him by August 31st. I don't see it happening. He might have already gone through, or he may have already been blocked. I'm pretty sure that guy who had the Borchard for Burroughs report didn't just pick it out of his ass. It probably was discussed. A lot of things could have prevented the deal from happening, and I'm not saying Burroughs can be had. I just thought he may be a possibility.

Crede
QUOTE(GoSoxGo @ Aug 25, 2005 -> 07:13 PM) Latest News Aug. 24, 2005 - 11:15 am et Sean Burroughs will likely be called up on September 1. Burroughs, who has batted .299 with eight doubles and a home run in 97 at-bats, has a $1.65 million salary, so they want to get him back in the big leagues. Source: San Diego Union-Tribune That doesn't mean they wouldn't trade him. He has a good glove, and if he developed some power, could turn into a pretty good player.

Crede
QUOTE(GoSoxGo @ Aug 25, 2005 -> 07:10 PM) That trade isn't going to happen. Neither player would clear waivers and the Padres are already talking about calling Burroughs up. Burroughs might. Not many teams looking for 3rd baseman with Willie Harris power. KW could throw a minor leaguer their way.

I wonder if Sean Burroughs cleared waivers. There was that article that Borchard was going to be traded for him.

Bobby Jenks
QUOTE(Jenks Heat @ Aug 25, 2005 -> 03:01 PM) I think his back is the problem not a tired arm. His back is a problem, but Hermanson mentioned being tired about a month or so ago.

QUOTE(RockRaines @ Aug 25, 2005 -> 01:14 PM) please tell me someone else is warming in the pen and his initials arent DH or LV I'm pretty sure Ozzie will leave Marte in for Mauer and Morneau, then go to Hermanson to try to get LeCroy. Its probably going to be a nerve-racking bottom of the ninth.

QUOTE(RockRaines @ Aug 25, 2005 -> 01:07 PM) this should be jenks, and nobody else but Cotts after that. There is no reason to put in Marte ( i cant get lefties out) and Vizcaino (here comes the slider). You're right. Cotts should close out the 9th.
