  1. Wimpy didn't go public with the abuse story until 2002. His last season with the Sox was 1999, so if Hawk said anything to him it was because of personal private conversations. I don't know how those would become knowledge of anyone other than those 2. Wimpy, at least at the time he left said it was because he was asked to do more preparation for the games, and he said if you don't like how he did the games then he would leave. I take his word for it. Any other story obviously could be true, but why speculate?
  2. Do you think it was just coincidence that the White Sox were reportedly willing to take $8.5 million a year of Griffey's salary, which is almost exactly what Konerko is making? I don't think Konerko is going to age well. A huge contract for 4 years is most likely regrettable.
  3. Judging by the past few weeks, it looks like Pods has lost the art of stealing.
  4. They love to have Cooper on as a guest. He talks and talks and talks and talks........................................................................
  5. QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Aug 3, 2005 -> 01:39 PM) OK, considering he's placed on waivers and such and everyone passes on him, would the trade be likely to happen soon? I would think the chances of the Cincinatti owners changing their minds is slim. He would have to be on the roster by Aug. 31st to be eligible for the post season. I wouldn't count on it, but stranger things have happened.
  6. QUOTE(BamaDoc @ Aug 3, 2005 -> 01:33 PM) Since Griffey is in the NL, every NL team would have to pass on him. Then since we have the best AL record every AL team would have to pass on him in order for our claim to prevail. Slim just left town! It is with certainty that I tell you no team in MLB will make a waiver claim, considering he is still owed between $40-50 million, is getting a little long in the tooth, and has a big history of injuries. Slim leaving town would be the chance that anyone would claim him on waivers. Its not going to happen.
  7. QUOTE(Mr. Showtime @ Aug 3, 2005 -> 11:53 AM) They might try, but no way he ends up there. Reds would pull him, not gonna let him go to a divison rival. The Cards aren't cheap, but I can't see them taking that contract. The Reds wouldn't pull him. If you claim him on waivers, the Reds would be more than happy to let you eat the rest of his contract. He is not going to get claimed. It is far too risky.
  8. I'd be willing to bet Griffey already has or soon will pass through waivers.
  9. QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Aug 3, 2005 -> 11:21 AM) That's what I was wondering too. Why would they want Rogo if they have Casey and Dunn too? The prospects are secondary. The main reason the Reds would trade Griffey is $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ $$
  10. QUOTE(YASNY @ Aug 3, 2005 -> 11:06 AM) From the first post in this thread... As far as I know Griffey is on a muti year contract. The $14 million I was writing about was not for 1 season. I'm sure with all the deferred payments and such, there is a sum closer to $50 million left on the contract. A team claiming him on waivers and being awarded him would be resposible for the balance of the contract without the Reds contributing a dime.
  11. QUOTE(whitesoxin' @ Aug 3, 2005 -> 11:01 AM) The Yankees have never been afraid to spend money. If George can get a HOF like Ken Griffey to play in NY, I think he would be willing to spend $14 million on him. Heck, I would spend $14 million on him if I were JR just because he brings excitment and talent. Its more than $14 million.
  12. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Aug 3, 2005 -> 10:59 AM) Where do you get they have boatloads of money? If they had that much money laying around, why wouldn't they have gone after a real pitcher at the deadline instead of Shawn Chacon, Al Lieter, and Hideo Nomo? Exactly. Their payroll is $208 million. Their revenue sharing and luxury tax bill is around $100 million. They are about tapped out. If they could afford bringing Griffey on, he'd be in pinstripes right now.
  13. QUOTE(YASNY @ Aug 3, 2005 -> 10:51 AM) Now that this is out, I don't think NY or Boston would let Griffey get through waivers. He probably already has gone through. I don't think there's the smallest chance either of these teams would risk having to take the entire portion remaining on his contract to block the White Sox from maybe acquiring him.
  14. QUOTE(ChWRoCk2 @ Aug 3, 2005 -> 10:38 AM) aw man, i hope we can still get griffey, we could still really use a bat He will definitely clear waivers. Any team claiming him would have to assume his entire contract. Maybe this trade can be revisited in a couple of weeks if Junior can stay healthy. It would make a lot of sense for both teams. The White Sox could really use his bat and his presence in the line-up.
  15. on those pepsi nights, you can always type in pepsi as the code. I'm pretty sure it works.
  16. If the Sox go 3-55 the rest of the season, Steve Phillips' prediction of a 72-90 season will be correct.
  17. This is the biggest problem with Buerhle's ejection. Hermanson is the 6th pitcher.
  18. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Aug 1, 2005 -> 01:36 PM) Maybe they should bring the Haegermeister up for a different look Let AJ catch him and Contreras back to back and see how pissed he gets. It would make a good segment of Punk'ed
  19. QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ Aug 1, 2005 -> 01:30 PM) I thought this was the 9th, Thx for making it interesting Marte. If there was deal that invloved Marte and B Mac, K Dubs shoulda pulled the trigger. You'll be glad Marte is on the team in October. They need to let him take a day or 2 off. If he doesn't make an appearance, he at least warms up almost every game.
  20. QUOTE(lopo89 @ Aug 1, 2005 -> 01:25 PM) List of People that Canseco was right about: Giambi Sosa Bonds McGwire and now... Rafael Palmeiro Who's next, Roger Clemens P.S. f*** these orioles, theyhave to cheat to hope to win, lets finsih up and look ahead to tomorrow where the matchup should be Garland vs. Halladay I thought Halladay wasn't coming back until this weekend.
  21. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Aug 1, 2005 -> 01:21 PM) Pitch 1 - Called Strike Pitch 2 - Called Strike Pitch 3 - Called Strike Sammy Sosa called out on strikes. man I have seen that too many times. Never too many, after he was traded away from the White Sox.
  22. QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ Aug 1, 2005 -> 01:16 PM) The Os' are done for the year. The news about Raffy and now the sweep, it's over for em. Its been over for them. Now maybe they will realize it.
  23. QUOTE(GoSox05 @ Aug 1, 2005 -> 01:07 PM) seems like the white sox averages are going up a little lately. A four game series in Baltimore will do that.
  24. Lee Mazzilli is getting his final look at the White Sox as manager of the Orioles. He is going to get canned after this season, if not before it ends. The dual GMs there are in trouble. Everyone is scrambling to find a fall guy. Its amazing they really thought they could hang the whole season with their pitching staff.
  25. AJ was a huge signing this offseason. The 2 position players who cannot get injured are AJ and Uribe.
