QUOTE(VAfan @ Jul 31, 2005 -> 10:40 AM) Who are we really competing for with respect to Huff? Boston? I don't think so. You think if Boston isn't able to unload Manny Ramirez that they are still shopping their best prospects to TB for Aubrey Huff? Is anyone else in the Huff market? Either TB is going to come down in price for Huff, or they are going to end up keeping him. Both results would be fine would me. There's a good chance Trot Nixon is out for the year. Boston wants Huff, and according to BP, Tampa likes their package for him better than what the White Sox were offering for him at least as of about midnight. Maybe the fact that they are in the same division may sway them to KW's offer.
  2. QUOTE(fathom @ Jul 31, 2005 -> 10:16 AM) Just saw where the Score is reporting it's Huff or bust right now, with McCarthy not being involved in the deal. There's not a chance in hell we get Huff without giving up BMac. The Score is about as accurate as an mlb message board.
  3. I heard this last week and posted it in one of the Inside Pitch threads. Bruce Levine is slow. Supposedly if Nevin would have accepted the trade, Sammy would have been looking for work.
  4. Hey, Mr.Cub, Ernie Banks is also a no show this weekend. How come he's not going to get any flak?
  5. BP said Marte and McCarthy is the offer for Huff. They didn't mention Baez. They also claim to have a source that says TB likes Boston's offer for him better, and not to be surprised if TB does nothing. Either LaMar really is out of his mind, or McCarthy's stock is not nearly as high as previously thought.
  6. If KW can pull off a trade with TB its going to be a miracle. I like Huff, and the White Sox could really use him. I hope KW stays away from Baez, although he would give the Sox a Manny Trillo of Cubans. If the price for Guardado is a prospect, screw Baez, get Guardado and throw a few guys back to TB for Huff. That should be enough to win the division, and get some home field advantage at least in the first round.
  7. Miquel Olivo got shipped to SD.
  8. If you can't hit in Colorado.............................
  9. Stark has reported several times that the White Sox will either do something huge, or do nothing.
  10. QUOTE(Middle Buffalo @ Jul 30, 2005 -> 04:29 PM) I'd like to see if they could get Tony Clark cheap. He could fill in at 1B/DH and is having a good year pinch hitting. I wouldn't want to give up too much, though. Tony Clark is having a fine year. He also is capable of going 6-80. His track record the last several years indicates he's due for a massive slump. Arizona is only a couple of games out. I would doubt that they would trade him unless the Sox really overpaid. He's not worth it.
  11. Stark was espnnews with this. He said the Twins still believe they can catch the White Sox.
  12. BP reported the Sox have made what they called their final push and I interpreted as final offers for Burnett, Wagner, and Huff and will take the first one that is agreed upon because the offers have common players.
  13. QUOTE(Punch and Judy Garland @ Jul 30, 2005 -> 03:39 PM) This makes Boston appear very unprofessional. Whether it is Theo's fault or not, it makes him look bad to have his word on a trade mean less. Semi-similar to what DePodesta did a year ago Very similar to the Erstad/Garland trade of a few years ago. The catcher that was supposed to go from Boston to Colorado, is being dangled to TB in a package for Huff.
  14. Iguchi with another hit. Does this mean we won't see him until Wednesday after today's game?
  15. Crede's sideburns ought to be filled in perfectly for Elvis night.
  16. BP says the Yankees are close to acquiring Kevin Millwood.
  17. QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Jul 30, 2005 -> 12:10 PM) Does Iguchi speak English or Spanish? I didn't think he did. Actually, I've never even heard him speak. I"m pretty sure only Japanese.
  18. Everett must execute here.
  19. Huff would be great to have. Baez is not a reliable relief pitcher.
  20. QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Jul 30, 2005 -> 10:29 AM) He had a no-trade clause for the Yankees and Red Sox because, at the time, they both had established closers on their team. Eddie has another clause in his contract that gives him more money for closing out more games, I believe. He won't go to the Yankees, IMO. He will, again IMO, accept a trade to the Red Sox if he has the chance. The White Sox have Hermanson, so he might have to share the closer role here, thus he has less incentive to come here. I really wouldn't doubt him accepting a trade to the Red Sox, if they offer the Mariners enough to land him. EDIT: The reason he might not want to come here or New York is because of Hermanson and Rivera. With Foulke being hurt, he might be inclined to go there. If he was traded to the White Sox, I don't believe he has no trade protection. IIRC when he was a free agent KW pursued him very aggressively. There were many reports saying he would probably sign with the White Sox. If Wagner is not available, and this guy is for a prospect, KW must grab him. Its a no-brainer. Hermanson's back can be a problem at any time. They are going to need someone with a lot of experience closing games, especially and hopefully in the playoffs.
  21. QUOTE(TheBlackSox8 @ Jul 30, 2005 -> 09:45 AM) Incredibly rediculous. UNDER .500....holy s***!!!!! That's not as bad as 1994. At the time of the strike the Rangers were leading the AL West. They were 10 games under .500.
  22. QUOTE(White Sox Josh @ Jul 29, 2005 -> 08:06 PM) lol! Than the cubs would be robbed. Yeah trade Ramirez for Mueller and Manny Ramirez. Wow! What the cubs need is a leadoff man and no jerry hairston isn't a Major League Leadoff man. He is a utility player. Wow! Here is a suggestion to the Cubs, A. Ramirez can really hit and while isn't good defensively he is having a better year than Manny. Manny can't even play defense. They would get Mueller to play 3rd. He's pretty good with the glove. Manny would be unbelievable at the Urinal.
  23. QUOTE(SoxFan562004 @ Jul 29, 2005 -> 08:05 PM) wow, I think if Cubs get Manny they would want to keep Aramis... you want the Lee/Ramirez/Ramirez threat... if the Cubs aren't going to get bullpen help they need to outslug people Aramis makes $10 million a year, the Cubs would need to move some salary. Stone was explaining it, I wasn't paying full attention. The Cubs really like Mueller I guess.
  24. QUOTE(fathom @ Jul 29, 2005 -> 08:02 PM) I predict Manny is on the Cubs by Sunday afternoon. Steve Stone was on PTI mentioning a package that included Aramis Ramirez, Patterson, Mitre and a couple of minor leagers for Manny and Mueller.
  25. Ozzie got 6 out of El Duque. He should be satisfied with that and not try to stretch his luck another inning.
