reminding me of 2000
Plus, the Sox have been without their best offensive player for about 40% of the season.

Freddy Garcia
He's in line for the win. Got hurt by the longball, but its been a whirlwind 72 hours for him, I think he'll settle down. 9 k's were impressive, especially with 0 walks. If he stays healthy, he'll win a lot of games.

Freddy G on the score
Maybe Ozzie had a daughter when he was 15 or something, before he got married. There has never been a mention of a daughter. I heard it was his wife's niece. Maybe they just call her their daughter.

Constant trade rumors post garcia trade
I'm pretty sure if the Sox did a deal that involved Estrada and Marte, it also would involve Ortiz, and more Sox prospects. which would kick Scho back to the bullpen, to take Marte's spot. I guess its possible this may go down, but I hope not.

Constant trade rumors post garcia trade
Marte is a target of the Braves. Estrada is hitting almost .340. He probably is the Braves MVP thus far this year. He is known as a good defensive catcher. He makes the minimum. Teams don't trade that for prospects. The Atlanta GM is one of the best in the business, he doesn't get hoodwinked. Levineline mentioned Marte and Juan Cruz perhaps switching teams, maybe he has accurate information for once. Don't think for a second Estrada is coming here for prospects or as a throw in. He will work for cheap for several more years.

Has Olivo commented on the trade yet?
There's some quotes on espn.com. Says he will pull for the White Sox, thinks they will win the division. Will miss his friends, especially Esteban. Says he will make new ones, thinks he may play a little more in Seattle. I will miss MO. I was sitting in the lobby of the Grand Hyatt in NYC the morning of his major league debut. He had just arrived either that morning or late the night before. He was in the lobby meeting his new teammates, shaking all their hands. Later, he hit a homer in his debut. I hope he has a great career, he's really a nice guy.

If the Sox want Estrada, they are going to have to give up Marte. Even that might not be enough. They'll get Juan Cruz back.

Marte would also be involved.

Garcia Engaged?
Ozzie doesn't have a daughter. He has 3 sons, unless one of the took a trip to Amsterdam. I think it is Ozzie's wife's niece, which I suppose would be Ozzie's niece he is engaged to.

ESPN 1000: Freddy Garcia traded to the White Sox
He was JM's son in law. By the time JM and Rondell squared up in the crosstown classic-that marriage...........................it gone

With FG
Levineline said today the Braves also wanted Marte, and may give back Juan Cruz. It makes sense, Sho bumped back to the bullpen with Ortiz in the rotation. God, I hope they don't do this.

ESPN 1000: Freddy Garcia traded to the White Sox
If they don't like how he calls games, Cooper could call it in the dugout. Ironically, a friend of mine lives in Cleveland and is a big Indian fan. Sandy Alomar was routinely criticized for how he called a game. The staff ERA was usually a full point higher when he was catching.

ESPN 1000: Freddy Garcia traded to the White Sox
There was something on the Pittsburgh board last week, where the Sox were going to wind up with Kendall and Benson and $12-16 million, for Crede and Olivo.

ESPN 1000: Freddy Garcia traded to the White Sox
For all those who think OG's friendship with Garcia will get him to sign an extension, you should go to foxsports.com and watch the video clip. A couple of interesting things. Garcia didn't seem too enamoured with the trade. They asked him about his friendship with OG and he said that was nice to have OG as a friend, but said this was a business. When they asked him about signing an extension with the Sox, he said to talk to his agent. He did say the Sox had a good club with a great chance at the playoffs. The Seattle GM spoke and said they asked the agent what type of money he was looking for today and thought it was very high, hense the trade. I would imagine he is looking for at least Colon money. They spoke to Melvin the manager, and he mentioned Garcia is a free agent after the season, and it was possible he would come back to Seattle.

ESPN 1000: Freddy Garcia traded to the White Sox
Reed has had a bad wrist almost all year. He is potentially a great hitter. Baseball Prospectus really loves him at least at the beginning of this year. I believe they said his projected numbers using a PECOTA system they use were like Don Mattingly and Tony Gwynn. They thought at the very least he was Rusty Greer.

ESPN 1000: Freddy Garcia traded to the White Sox
He's a switch hitter, although its been suggested he give up batting LH. He used to be a stud prospect. Maybe hitting in a bandbox rather than a national park will help him.

Miguel Olivo
That's total BS. If he's having problems game calling, then he should have got help from the dugout. He's only in his 2nd full season. KW, all class.
-
Available Catchers
He's far from the last year of his contract. I believe he has $30-40 million left on it with 3 or 4 years left.

ESPN 1000: Freddy Garcia traded to the White Sox
I was wondering why Olivo got lifted today. MO is going to be a pretty good ballplayer. He was only playing every other day here, and made an impact. He hit a homer and threw out a runner to help beat the Cubs. Miquel, Godspeed.

Catchers who hit .320 and make the minimum do not get traded. Estrada is not coming here.

Official Ortiz/Jones ATL Rumors Thread
I saw Jones misplay a ball terribly at USCF a week ago. He is a great CF, but if you are willing to pay him what his contract calls for, why not just re-sign Magglio, who is his superior offensively by a rather large margin. Atlanta is looking to add, so a trade with them would probably be a wash at best. You trade now with teams looking to dump, the price isn't nearly as high. And if this article is correct, Jones will be available in the off season, probably for prospects. Keep Magglio for the rest of the season, and if you really want Jones, go after him next winter. Replenish the farm system for the loss of prospects sent to Atlanta with the draft picks gained in losing Magglio.

Official Ortiz/Jones ATL Rumors Thread
Why would the Braves give up a starter a closer and their RF to get an injured RF who is a free agent at the end of the year? If the Braves are trading for Magglio, they would still be trying to win their division. Ortiz, they would give up. Drew, maybe but probably not, Smoltz, no way. Also be wary of pitchers the Braves trade. They seem to get rid of them just at the right time, if you know what I'm sayin.
