Wood's 20 K's vs Buehrle's perfect game
QUOTE (SoxAce @ Mar 29, 2010 -> 04:08 PM) Man.. really explains how terrible Riggleman was back then in handling pitching staffs and bullpens. I believe he was very good as far as lineups and using his bench. Pitch counts were not talked about as much back then as they are now.

Does anyone know anything about Josh Mora and Comcast? I heard a rumor that he was being pushed aside becasue he was critical of the Tallon firing. If true, sounds familiar doesn't it.

It is the 100th anniversary of the president throwing out the first pitch. Why do it for the Nationals though. I understand he resides in Washington D.C.

Cubs promote OF Tyler Colvin to MLB
QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Mar 29, 2010 -> 04:44 PM) Then they sure to talk about him a TON for someone they don't even value. All I ever hear if Castro, Vitters, and Colvin. I wish we were deep enough that a 23-year-old who hits .300 with 14 jacks, and 7 triples in 84 games in AA is not anyone significant to us. The cubs never talk up all of their minor leaguers as if they were phenoms. He may be the next Corey Patterson or dare I say Felix Pie.

Official 2009-2010 NHL Thread
The John McDonough (sp?) philosophy is looking to be as successful for the Hawks as it was for the cub. Use high priced free agents to market your winning mindset, watch ticket prices sky rocket. He is percieved as a genius for resurrecting both organizations. The thing is, he does not spend money wisely and cripples the franchise but he builds enough of a "scene" that the revenue is there to support it. The Leno appearance was a prime example of marketing over winning. Seems the team may be buying into the hype. We shall see if it pays off. This all could be an overeaction but it is a feeling I have always had about the situation with upper management of the Hawks.

The refs in this game seem to let some things go and then call something tick tack. The whole tournament seems poorly officiated.

Wood's 20 K's vs Buehrle's perfect game
QUOTE (Middle Buffalo @ Mar 28, 2010 -> 09:53 AM) Wood's mechanics were due to lead to an arm injury. As I recall, that was the common opinion throughout baseball at the time, and I know that I've heard Steve Stone say it on the Score. I'm not professing to be an ezpert on pitching mechanics. http://www.chrisoleary.com/projects/baseba.../KerryWood.html Contrast that with Mark Prior, who was said to have a perfect delivery when he was drafted. This guy disputes that notion, but coming out of college, that was the opinion. http://www.chrisoleary.com/projects/Baseba...erspective.html The talk around town as it was the beginning of pitch counts and how to keep pitchers healthy was that the conditions were such that the game could have a negative long term impact. Mechanics and what not became the thing a few years later with Tom House v. Mike Marshall. The impressive part as I look at it is a guy doing something really out of the norm. Brady Anderson, if not Ped enhanced, is impressive as at the time 50 HR were rare compared to today and for a guy like Anderson to do it was impressive. I just think there is a difference in comparing the accomplishments. Kind of like comparing someone hitting .400 and somebody hitting 60 HR without PEDS.

Wood's 20 K's vs Buehrle's perfect game
QUOTE (BearSox @ Mar 28, 2010 -> 08:42 AM) It didnt matter what the weather would be like, the stuff he had that day... he was gonna get 20 k's or close to it no matter who he faced or where he faced them. His slider that day was probably the nastiest pitch anyone has thrown in the past 20 years. Top it off he was setting up his slider with a 99 mph fastball with movement, the hitters had no chance. It was a cold, overcast, rainy day in May. It was like playing at twilight in that the lights did not take full affect. The talk at the time was that the performance in those conditions could also have an adverse affect on his arm. I was just saying that these things helped it and it was a dominating performance.

Wood's 20 K's vs Buehrle's perfect game
The weather helped Wood out a ton. It is kind of like looking at Zambrano's no hitter, you need to look at the situation as a whole, same with Buehrle's no hitter. There also wasn't much pressue on Wood as there was no no-hitter or perfect game on the line. Over all though, I think Wood's was more dominating but the fact that a contact pitcher threw a perfect game is more impressive.

Healthcare reform
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Mar 26, 2010 -> 12:43 PM) Texas newborn denied health care coverage based on pre-existing condition. This law can't be in action fast enough. Wasn't this the part of the bill that Obama thought was immediate and was touting as such. It was part of the story on Pelosi and how many folks voted without really knowing exactly what was in the bill.

Anyone else get the feeling that there is no faith in Huet and the team reflects this. Ante is 21-5-8 I believe and one of those losses was the Dallas game that Huet sucked in and the Hawks came back. That was a real bad decision by Q and I hope it does not have a long term affect. Seeds 2/3/6/7 looks like a hard road in the conference assuming Det moves up which I think they will.

Say hey, It's Kotsay
I am tired of s***ty pitchers especially soft tossing lefties and righties shutting out the White Sox if Guillen thinks this is the answer, fine run with it. Herm is better at his job than any person associated with MLB, players included. Maybe Kotsay is the next Ellis Burks who knows. I am willing to give it a shot though. If it does not work KW will make a trade that he could/should have over the offseason. This team is based on pitching. The hitting of Kotsay and Jones will not impact wheather this team wins or losses. Carlos, Teahen, Ramirez and Rios will decide this from the hitting stand point. It is like trying to blame 2006 on Mackowiak/Anderson. I like Kotsay and Pierre though.

What sucks is that cowley has kind of taken up the same crusade except he veils it as news and humor. I stopped reading the Times again because I do nto need Cowley bashing the Sox in his attempt to be witty.

Great game last night real good defense. Buff is looking like a D man. Niemi was great his only flaw to me is that he seems to be laying face first flat on the ice a lot . He also has a really bad receding hair line. I like Sarah Kostok but the interview at he end of the game was painful. English as a second language does not make for a real good on ice after the game interview. Watching the game and thinking 4-4-2 since the olympic break made me wonder how bad are the Hawks actually playing and here is what I came up with off the top of my head; The two ties were the result of a blown 3 goal lead (Washington) and 2 blown two goal leads against Phoenix. The four losses include the blown Detroit game, the blown Philly game the missed call against Anaheim and the Isles game right after the Olympics. Overall, the Hawks easily could have been 9-1 since the break they are not but I think they are doing just fine.....at least compared to the Sharks they are.

LOST!!!!
I guess the thing that got me was that I did not need 20 minutes of Richard locked in the bottom ofthe boat. Other than that I thought the episode was pretty good at getting to the bottom of some things and seemd like the beginning of the end. The whole temple thing seems to be misplaced though and a waste to the beginning of the season.

Looks like yet another game I was hoping to listen to get me through the end of the day that is not going to happen. The pitching is not going to have any room for error this season.
