  1. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jan 13, 2010 -> 11:53 AM) Zampese interviewing with the Bears for 2nd straight day. Sounds like he's meeting Cutler today. Be glad you do not live in Chciago the commentary around here regarding the Bears coaches and the organization is just plain sad. The nugget I heard today was that Ron Turner was told by Lovie that he was fired because the defense was the fall guy last year......great rationale. Turner felt that if he was to go, everyone should go. Also the restraints placed on the coordinators are making them bigger puppets, especially on offense, then they were in the past. They are not even looking at legitmate candidates anymore, just guys that can fit into what Lovie wants done. I am not sure either coordinator they are looking at now has ever been part of a winning team. I am not talking about winning the superbowl, I am talking about winning one playoff game in their current positions. The Jim Haslett conversations were disheartining as he is the kind of guy that could have turned the defense around. Viable options are dropping out or not even interviewing left and right. Oh and Tommy Harris has let everyone know he will be a beast next year........the only way I see this happening is if it is a contract year.
  2. With the rotation the White Sox have I think 7 relief pitchers is too many. Every starter should go 6 innings just about every time out there.
  3. Ozzie Guillen does not use two catchers in the same game period. He does not even replace one for the other unless it is the bottom of the 9th and the game is on the line...and then that is a rarity If Flowers was on this team he would play once a week and end up with 100 or so at-bats. Look at Brian Anderson to see how this helps progress a career. There is nothing Flowers can not learn playing everyday in AAA that he would at the MLB level. Flowers was not going to DH unless CJ was a platoon guy that could catch in a pinch.
  4. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 12, 2010 -> 01:08 PM) How long was it at USC before the smoke really started for Carroll? Reggie Bush I guess........it seemd to me that there was always soemthing there.
  5. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 12, 2010 -> 12:27 PM) What makes you think the same stuff won't eventually come out about Saban and Meyer? I am not a fan of either but thus far thre hasn't been the smoke that leads to a fire and you would think that especially with Saben that you would have heard something by now.
  6. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jan 12, 2010 -> 12:27 PM) He is an exceptional defensive mind. You guys aren't giving him enough credit and he really didn't fail with the Jets/Patriots. Was he a huge success no, but to call him a failure is inaccurate. The guy is a very good coach. I called him average not a failure. I am not sure he is good enough though to make Seattle a winner. His ability to recruit is his best asset and this means nothing in the NFL.
  7. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 12, 2010 -> 09:53 AM) Yup. I can't think of a single NFL coach who's won multiple championships and then later been proven to be breaking the rules. Wasn't Bill Bellichek suspended for breaking some sort of rule a couple of years back?
  8. I am rolling through season 3 and to get to SS's point if I am Jack before I do surgery on Ben, I ask him, what the F is this place and what is going on. I forgot all about Locke's random blowing things up and killing people. It kind of makes sense now.
  9. I would like to see Huet win a game once. I do not think the defense of the Hawks will give him the opportunity but he has lost more games than he has won.
  10. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jan 12, 2010 -> 11:21 AM) I was chatting with my buddy on Saturday (while playing bball) who works in the USC athletic department. He told me that prior to accepting the bowl game for this season (against BC) USC offered the NCAA a 5 year post-season ban (which would have started this year) and a loss of scholarships. That tells me something bad is about to go down. Now maybe the NCAA turned it down because it was too large of an offer but either way making that sort of offer to the NCAA says all I need to know. You keep living in make believe world Brian. Pete Carroll got great players anually and won one championship. The media loved him and the southern cal thing. I think he is an average coach that will be back in college in a couple of years. USC got all of the hoopla and pagentry but at the end of the day he is nowhere near the coach Saben, Tressell, or Meyer are and that will be eveident very soon.
  11. QUOTE (FlaSoxxJim @ Jan 8, 2010 -> 11:28 PM) Housing slump or not, $300K won't get you into anything worth inhabiting in Beverly. Totally depressng to know I'll never in my life be able to afford a house in the neighborhood I grew up in. Not true. There is plenty to be had for under $300K.
  12. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jan 8, 2010 -> 03:47 PM) Thats what I was thinking as well. Also, they have been so dominant, he has nowhere to go but down. Its not easy to repeat 7 straight BCS bowl trips. Their fans aren't as crazy and demanding as some other top programs, but its easy to start getting used to being that good Jim tressel isn't going anyewhere.
  13. QUOTE (joeynach @ Jan 8, 2010 -> 02:05 PM) This would be really cool if it went down. It would be great for sox fans to have local place to hang and drink just blocks from the stadium and Cork and Kerry already has a pretty well known name and reputation with sox fans. I wonder if they would keep it as Jimbo's. They bought Cork & Kerry after it burned down and kept the name. Jimbo's has the name in the Bridgeport area as Cork & Kerry does on the southside.
  14. QUOTE (Chet Kincaid @ Jan 8, 2010 -> 08:33 AM) I agree. People are putting a LOT of faith in the starting rotation, but we still have to score runs. Why is it when Boston does this they are smart. When the White Sox do it they are stupid?
  15. QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Jan 8, 2010 -> 09:46 AM) First step would be to pick which general area you would like to live in. North suburbs, West suburbs and south suburbs. I just moved to the south suburbs. Mount Greenwood. It's a nice town. You get the best of both worlds. A little city and a little suburbs. Close knit, but you still can have a yard and some space. You could find some nice places for 200k - 250k. Try using www.redfin.com. Its a cool website to look up houses for sale. Look in Mt. Greenwood, Beverly/Morgan Park area. The ride to the Cell is a hop skip and jump away and metra is right there. The neighborhood/community atmosphere is pretty cool there as well.
  16. I want to move from the outfield to box or club level and can not get an answer as to where I will be.
  17. You can get a different card that gives you better rates.
  18. With the threat of the 2011 NFL lockout there could be a bunch of guys go pro that woundn't or shouldn't.
  19. QUOTE (bmags @ Jan 5, 2010 -> 07:48 PM) I'm just kind of making this comment as an aside, but before 2008, the tigers made a bunch of crazy deals and were assured to win the central. And yeah. BUT, the cardinals seem to annually OVERachieve. Yes, they have the greatest player in baseball, but man, every year since 2004 I've pretty much looked at their roster and been like, meh. And they just compete like hell. They won the AL.
  20. QUOTE (fathom @ Jan 5, 2010 -> 02:36 PM) Please correct me if I'm wrong, but 2010-2011 is going to be an uncapped NFL season. Thus, if we had to pay 20 million to fire Lovie/hire Cowher, then how in the world were we going to expect the Bears to sign any free agents this offseason? I'm content with today's decisions....I'm happy Luke Butkus got fired, cause he's a real prick. It is uncapped but the years of service goes up to like 6 years for a a UFA or something really weird. There will not be as much movement as you would think because of this other than Jerry Jones and Daniel Snyder spending out of their ass. This is also where the uncertain money given to a 1st or 2nd rounder could be used if needed by the Bears.
  21. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jan 5, 2010 -> 12:34 PM) But unlike Babich, Marinelli is also one of Angelo's boys. That is what people forget. The Chicago Bears are all a good ole boy network especially on the defensive side of the ball and we all have Warrren Sapp and the Greatest Show on Turf for the reason why the Tampa 2 is still around and Lovie has a job except we do not get Monte Kiffin and Dungy though. Next year is the last ditch effort by this organization from Ted on down to keep their jobs. The Bears organization is not going to spend the money for 2010 if they feel 2011 will not have football. The owners can not even begin to negotiate with the NFLPA until they resovle what it is they want and this is not going well. My feeling is that this organization is done with these guys and that is what Hub Arkush was reporting a few weeks back. The best thing that happened was the last two weeks gave hopes and calmed people down........they now can make some minor moves for 2010 and hope for the best knowing if they fall apart and there is no football in 2011 they pay Lovie for doign nothign anyway and start fresh in 2012 or eat the chunck ofthe money for 2011 if there is football.
  22. The deal that Lovie signed gave him free reign over his staff and involvement in player personnel decisions. He has failed miserably in both accounts. I was in favor of bringing in Marinelli as I have no problem bringing in failed head coaches that were good assistants. I hope Maranelli gets some free reign to stunt and be creative with the defensive scheme. If he is a Lovie puppet like babich then the will suck again. Pep Hamilton better be gone.
  23. You ain't going to get into that place for under $50 face very soon. There is nothing to do in the winter in Chciago and the Hawks are exciting as hell to watch.
  24. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Dec 30, 2009 -> 03:05 PM) Anyone else just completely lose interest in this show? I dunno what it is, but I've gone from serious mental issues with liking the show (thinking about it most of the work day, reading the various websites, devoting RSS feed space to the summaries after each episode, etc) to being very disinterested and unexcited about its return. My fiance continues to be obsessed, and she's asked me about 15 times in the last 2 weeks to watch an old episode with her, but I just can't do it. We sat through the first episode from Season 5 two nights ago (I did promise to watch the whole season to get ready for the premiere), but I dunno, it didn't do anything for me. I'm not sure what to think. Maybe having the new and final episodes to watch will bring it back. I was getting to this point and then I popped in season 3 and am now back into it. I rewatched season 1 and 2 before last year to get back in the mood last year and they help.
  25. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 5, 2010 -> 09:09 AM) I think Cowher clearly wants to take a job along the Southeast coast close to where he lives. That's why we kept hearing he was interested in Carolina or Tampa, and when those jobs didn't open, suddenly he wasn't interested in coaching this year. When your options are Buffalo and that's it you rethink wheather you want to coach are not. I get the feeling there is more inside stuff to the Hub Arkush reports and it ties into no football in 2011 as well.
