  1. QUOTE (kev211 @ Jan 29, 2010 -> 12:48 PM) I don't know watching the end of season 5 it seems almost obvious that Locke was the MIB. Just the way Jacob and Locke were talking. Richard could still be friends with the MIB though. That was what I thought at first but then when I went back and was watching season 4 and Alpert tells Locke that he has to die, it got me thinking. Also the aging thing gets me as well.
  2. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Jan 29, 2010 -> 11:10 AM) Moneyball isn't about reinvention, it's about innovation. It's about exploiting market inefficiencies. OPB was an advantage for Beane until everybody else started doing it. Moneyball isn’t irrelevant it’s never been more important. It’s just transformed through the decade. And can we stop the “it’s easy to win with Mulder, Zito, and Hudson” thing? Billy Beane got all of those players, and then they left when he could afford them anymore. This is like saying that it’s easy for KW to win with Floyd and Danks. Well yeah, it is, because they’re great players that the GM actively obtained. In my mind his way of looking at OBP received credability because he had a pitching staff and steroid fueled OBP guys that became MVP winners thus their OBP became magnified along with their production via the steroids. I think Beane is good but to make a movie about what he has accomplished is stupid. I'd rather see a portrayal of how Tony LaRussa goes about his business. You know the guy Beane didn't need as a manager....I know, money was an issue. The A's have a history of success and there were some great people there before he got there. It was not like he did not have anyone to learn from and built the organization from scratch.
  3. Why do cubans seem to have really odd names or really simple one?
  4. The way I thought it went down was the MIB figured out a loophole and that he is not actually Locke but somehow got Locke to appear ala Christian Sheppard in order to get Ben to kill Locke with Richard setting up and manipulating Ben all along in order to get him to want to kill Jacob. Ben has never communicated with Jacob thus Jacob could not actually banish Ben which I am thinking was done by Richard. You also noticed that Richard always wears the fancy dark clothes.
  5. QUOTE (FlaSoxxJim @ Jan 28, 2010 -> 10:10 PM) Went to high school just up the road at Ignatius, so we'd hit it up regularly if we weren't already blowing our money on Al's Beef or Mario's Italian Lemonade. I've never had grilled hash browns as good anywhere else as White Palace. I miss Chicago food so much right now. I hate Al's beef not the quality of the food but it always seemd very overpriced and not that good. There was a joint further west down Taylor, the name escapes that had better beef I thought. I also liked the Great American Deli over Fontano's as well although both are really good. Rosie still makes a great gyros from what I hear for some reason the place looks to creepy to me to actually have good food. Not sure why i think that. Jansen's has really dropped off. Hickory Hills has two ofthe best rib joints around as well as the joint on 95th and Ridgeland. I am not sure why there are good /great rib places around there but maybe the Patio crowd started it. The Patio is good as well. There is als a great Mexican joint in Blue Island that I is authentic that I will try not to spell. Fox's stays open late and has good pie. Good place to hit around midnight after a Sox game.
  6. Just watched Jughead again. Gotta tell ya the badass young Eloise Hawking really does it for me. I really want to know how the Others came about as I forgot hawking and Widmore were others. I also think Richard Alpert is the man in black. Here is why I think this. He tells John he has to die to get off the island yet is not at all surprised about Locke's trek to kill Jacob. Richard is the only person who has seen Jacob and Richard and Jacob are the onyl two people who never age. Just some random thoughts from watching.
  7. In the the steroid era pitchers had to pitcher more carfully as the long fly ball was now a home run hence walks went up. Also striking out is no long an issue so guys can do the old Nick Swisher and rely on the umpire to call ball four or strike three on a close pitch. As our good friend Hawk always told us. It is easy to win with hudson, Mulder and Zito. Beane is a real good GM but I do not think he reinvented anything. He also plays in the worst hitters park in baeball with the huge foul territory.
  8. Steroids did as much for moneyball as Billy Beane did.
  9. I have a real good picture of myself with Jerry Resindorf a couple of years back. I also have one with Roland Hemond and Goose Gossage.
  10. The White Sox better hope Quentin and Kotsay stay healthy all year......something that is almost guaranteed not to happen I bet Vizquel and Nix DH at least a combined 10 times this year.
  11. QUOTE (G&T @ Jan 26, 2010 -> 11:30 AM) Matt Spiegal read an interesting stat. Of the last 10 ALCS champs, only 4 had a player start 100 games at DH and 2 were David Ortiz. So actually, the concept is perfectly acceptable. Of course, if you have the Yankees production at other places, the decision is much easier. and those are the only four to win the WS correct?
  12. QUOTE (JDsDirtySox @ Jan 25, 2010 -> 08:49 PM) The Phillies must be printing their own money these days. It was said tonight on MLB Network that they now have 15 players signed for 2011 taking up over 130 million on the payroll... and Werth is an UFA at year's end. Back to back world series runs will help
  13. When Quentin is on the DL in May and Jones is starting in right and Kotsay at DH things will get ugly around here. Why do the White Sox players need so much time off or breathers? Nix and Vizquel better never DH. Please DH Teahan, Beckham or Ramirez. The bright side is it does leve an opening for a bat to be acquired. Here is the other real bright side. CJ can make the team, be able to catch and then AJ can DH a couple of times a week to get the big bat of Castro in the lineup.
  14. QUOTE (fathom @ Jan 25, 2010 -> 03:35 PM) Sadly, this seems like a situation where Ozzie wants to show he's smarter than everyone. I'm fine with that, as long as he's held accountable. Why would he be....although I think he should. He still thinks Wise was the right move as was Mackowiak in center. If Jones/Kotsay post s*** numbers, they trade for Dunn in June or July hopefully. For $1M, bringing in Thome is a no brainer and then you can Carlton Fisk him in June if he is sucking.
  15. Peyton Manning is everything that the media and Brett Favre want you to think Brett Favre is. Payton Manning is the reason the colts are that good. Drew Brees looked like s***.
  16. The fact that Kotsay and Vizquel are going to get these at bats and that Nix or Lillibridge may make the team over Thome make me really question KW and I think this is Guillen putting it on the line. Hope it works out.
  17. Didn't the Angels have 9 guys hitting .300 last year Sox need to find 9 new guys in their lineup to do this. Sounds like a theory destined to fail.
  18. QUOTE (bmags @ Jan 17, 2010 -> 10:20 PM) What? Whatever you think of Turner as a head coach, the dude is a fantastic offensive coordinator. He made alex smith look promising for christ's sake Norv is better than ron but seeing as they fired his brother I am pretty sure he would pass on the bears.
  19. Well the SB coverage out of the NFC will be resugerence of the city of NO and comparing it to Haiti or Brett Favre. I really hate the unsportslike sports coverage of the sports world now a days. Go Colts...I guess The brothers Turner gotta have photos of someone. It is amazing how much a role coaching has in football......we get hit in the nuts twice with a turner brother and lovie.
  20. Niemi making a huge bid to be the number 1 guy as Huet seems to be unable to limit the damage when he is off. Seabrook and the defense in general has been bad today. Byf does a lot of standing around as well.
  21. This is a great hire. Guys that have HC experience are always big in my book. This guy actually had success as a head coach as well.
  22. Howard Stern was talking about going on Conan next week. That would be epic.
  23. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jan 14, 2010 -> 11:22 AM) It is not a dead-end job when you have Jay Cutler and the young wide-outs the Bears have. If I were a young up and comer this job would be a pretty good one to show-case my skills and potentially move up to a head coaching gig (whether in Chicago replacing Lovie or somewhere else). Plus, an OC in CHicago will get pretty much free reign to run there side of the ball which is exactly what a real good offensive mind would want. I actually think, outside of the clear risk with Lovie only being there for a year, that the Bears OC position is a real good job. And I should point out if the OC does good and is young and the Bears go hire a Cowher after the season, well, Cowher might darn well keep the OC (if he's good) because Cowher's focal point and likely whomever the Bears hire as an HC will be the defense. I agree. With the potetial at wideout/TE and a Forte bounce back there are thigns to work with there. The rumor around town is that the OC needs to run a Lovie desired offense and is thus a dead end job. You get an OC that does a good/great job and they can replace lovie as lovie is not going to be extended for what he is making, no way in hell. The whole situation is lovie cya.
  24. QUOTE (dasox24 @ Jan 13, 2010 -> 10:26 PM) Mike Tice? I'd be alright with that as our O-line coach. Not sure about as the OC. Honestly, I really don't know much of his history other than as the Vikings coach. I never even thought about him as a candidate. http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/footb...0,6522823.story He was good with vikes before he started scalping his super bowl tickets. Everyone is saying that the OC job is a deadend job as everyone will be gone next year but a good OC could replace Lovie as you know the bears will look for any reason to go cheap with their next hire so it will be a guy that will nto have a staff.
  25. Paul Sullivan said the cubs are kicking the tires on Dye as a 4th OF/platoon with fukodome. Is fukodome one of the bigger busts in recent memory? I think Sullivan said he hit .259.
