Frank Thomas retires
Frank on CSN, nice interview. I think he will be more vocal about steroids then he already has.

White Sox to Retire #35
If Hawk Harrelson presents him at the HOF induction ceremony it could be epic.

QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Feb 12, 2010 -> 02:02 PM) The thing is: rotating a DH could work. Earl Weaver (the best manager in the history of the game in my estimation) used to platoon the DH all the time, but he had the proper players to do it with. You exploit matchups by rotating consistent, proven hitters. You don’t gamble on people who moved past their prime in the mid 2000’s. I love the rotating DH..........as long as the options are viable hitters. Jones may be but Vizquel, Kotsay and Nix are not.

White Sox to Retire #35
So they will honor Frank Thomas on a day when a decent percentage of folks will be cheering for the other team.... Why not do this to sell tickets to a game against a s***ty team?

Frank Thomas retires
QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Feb 12, 2010 -> 09:30 AM) Only idiot Cub fans would debate that Ryne Sandberg > Frank Thomas. Idiots. Real cub fans will tell you that Frank Thomas was worse to them than the Sox winning in 2005. In the early 90's the White Sox were as good as any team in baseball and Frank Thomas was as good as any RH hitter ever. You need to also remember that Wrigleyville was a s*** hole and the the Sox and cubs were on even footing. Sammy Sosa was the answer to this and thank god for steroids.

Alex Fernandez and Frank Thomas made their MLB debuts on 8/2/1990. I remember the day well...it was a great day. First pitch opening day

"Deadliest Catch" Captain Phil Dies
I find it interesting that Sig Hansen has a Facebook page. Sadly it should make for a great season.

LOST!!!!
The snow knocked out my Direct TV so I watched on Hulu. Glad it is rerun next week as I thought the episode had some pretty good insite. Claire dies in Otherville and is taken over by something. The sickness that Rousseau speaks of gets a greater storyline which is pretty cool and the idea of having to bury the dead is addressed once again. The 2004 convergence with 2007 is going to be cool I think. Badass Claire was cool. The smoke monster taking over Locke I think is different from the Sayid, Claire, Christian zombie status.

Are the minutes played catching up to Seabrook and Keith? They are going to play a ton in the olympics which will not help.

Super Bowl XLIV
I thought the CBS coverage was awesome. No mindless shots of people not in a uniform on the playing field and just random camera changes that make you dizzy. I kind of agree with the Manning thing. If not for Rex throwing the big int and the Bears inability to stop the run, Peyton has nothing to show.

Adrian Gonzalez
Maybe the Sox are waiting until Thompson or Mitchell can benamed the PTBNL. They can't do this until April correct? Then they could not be traded/named until June. Sorry just bored.

Super Bowl XLIV
It was not that long ago that these were two of the s***tier franchises in all of sports. Anyone that thinks QB is not the most important position in sports is wrong.

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Feb 4, 2010 -> 09:20 AM) I didnt think Huet had a bad game at all, the defense did however. He let in one goal that maybe he could have saved, the other two were ridiculous redirections, including one off Seabs shin to the very corner of the goal where Huet was screened. Keith, Seabs, Soup and Hjalms played terrible. It seems every single redirected shot goes in. He is not a fan of standing on his head, that is for sure.

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Feb 3, 2010 -> 08:13 PM) That was a quiet anthem. Must be new fan night. I said this earlier in the year especially on the lower level. Does Huet just look really slow. It seems that his reaction time is almost nonexistant. Watch him the next game there seems to be no sense of urgency in getting into position. I really beleive the playoff run will be a short one if Huet is the guy. If they face Detroit in the first round it will be one and done.

Forgive Student Loan Debt to Stimulate the Economy
QUOTE (nitetrain8601 @ Feb 3, 2010 -> 03:43 PM) Keep in mind, the opportunity cost lost in going to school full-time and bypassing any other jobs you could have obtained instead of going to college. They say time is money and it's true. Instead of wasting your time and paying the school for your education, you're missing out on you getting a job and earning money during those 4/5 years. I agree, college is supposed to be an investment that pays off big. With the costs of college and the interest you have to pay back, it doesn't negative it completely, but a huge portion of that investment, at least for around 25 years(which is the term for most college students). Then they'll have probably 15-20 years of not having to pay that back if they pay it all back in time. That's a 25 year freeze on smart college grads being able to spend their big bucks to buy that big screen tv, to buy another car, to buy a bigger home a couple of expensive purses, etc. College grads are not entitled to anything. No one is. But the system is supposed to be designed where higher education = more spending power. In today's economy, with jobs being so hard to obtain, with the recession going on, and with student loans up the wazoo, that system is not working as designed. If you work to put yourself through school this argument is not true. I worked making $12/hour as a licensed forklift driver to put myself through UIC, got an accounting degree and doubled my pay upon graduation. As a CPA I make a much nicer living than a forklift driver. I think making the right choices are important. My goal was 2 years of UIC and then transfer to U of I. I liked UIC and elected not to transfer. Saved a ton of dough.

LOST!!!!
QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Feb 3, 2010 -> 09:58 AM) So it seems like the temple and it's inhabitants are in the year 2007. So did the flight attendant survive the original crash and get integrated in that "clan's" society? The flight attendant's path is the same as the rest of the Oceanic survivors she was accepted into the Others with the children I believe. She is not different than Kate, Jack, Sawyer, etc. except that they liked her more I guess......

LOST!!!!
I wasn't too happy with the episode as the whole show seemed to change and added things I am not a fan of. I like Juliet and her death sucks as I really despise Kate. I like Sawyer now though......odd I did like the Locke / Jack exchange in that it makes Jack the healer again should it allow Locke to walk. My thoughts The bomb went off and it caused things in peoples lives to change. Desmond never made it onto the island as the island is now underwater. Hurley is now lucky because he guessed the numbers right not because some wacky guy in an asylum told him them. It wonder if Rose is healed. If the island is underwater, did Jacob drown?

Nacho cheese
QUOTE (qwerty @ Feb 1, 2010 -> 10:42 PM) Gfs is basically wholesale that is open to the public. We used to go to the gfs on 78th and cicero (we owned a concession trailer for several years) and the cans ranged anywhere from $5.50 to $ 6.50. The price cannot be be beat anywhere, at least that has always been the case. There also is definitely no milk added. I shop there often. GFS is much better than Walmart and costco in that they are cheaper and have some really odd but cool things there is also no sign up fee. Got myself a chef's cook overcoat/jacket and huge hat for halloween couple of year s back. The 5 gallon drum of Sweet Baby Ray's rocks. They have the cheese in a one gallon can. I just bought one to make nachos for a party we were having. Warm it in the crock pot........ummmmmmm Don if you go there you will look at at least one item and shake your head. The 5lb. can of cashews ususlly does it as well as the BBQ sauce.

Forgive Student Loan Debt to Stimulate the Economy
QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Feb 2, 2010 -> 01:54 PM) This is from the website: Forgive Student Loan Debt to Stimulate the Economy You can read all about it at the link. Today is the first I heard about it... my wife joined their Facebook group. It's an interesting idea, but I dont have the economic knowledge to say if it is a legitimate idea. Can't get to the site but my thoughts are the same as the mortgage forgiveness, why should they benefit? I worked to put myself through school in a major I was not really fond of but it got me a good paying job and a nice career.

Buehrle or Peavy on Opening Day?
QUOTE (whitesox901 @ Feb 1, 2010 -> 04:23 PM) Peavy, I think Buehrle benefits from starting 4th in the rotation. It also says a lot when a pitcher of Mark's caliber is only a 4 in your rotation. What does starting fourth in the rotation mean other than not pitching until the 4th game of the season? Ranking pitchers 1 through 5 in a rotation if you are not skipping starts which the Sox do not plan on doing means absolutly nothing.

Great so Jay Cutler will be on his 4th different OC going into the 2011 season. With a bad O-line that will be without Olin for most of the learning curve and a below average receiving corp this thing could be epically bad.
