QUOTE (lostfan @ Apr 21, 2009 -> 11:04 AM) So I was going to go to this game but because my wife has other arrangements she made recently, I have to stick around so I can pick up my stepdaughter from her basketball game. The real question is, should I divorce my wife for hindering my ability to attend a Sox game? Convince the step duaghter that the opportunity to see Q is much more important than a basketball game. A nice evening out with the step daughter and Q could be memorable.

QUOTE (danman31 @ Apr 20, 2009 -> 12:23 PM) What is with this Chuck s***? Why Chuck? He is not a fat white 40-year-old living in Nebraska. No but he would be a biggest badass Texas Ranger that ever walked. Think the Mexican version of Shaft! He comes equipped with the big ass stick and all. Also during the Bowflex commercials he could just growl........well I guess that would be his wife but this covers all infomercails that he would do.

Will White Sox fans also boo BA if he goes 0/8?

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 20, 2009 -> 10:14 AM) Well, people are already starting to get on Fields for not hitting any homers (although one or maybe both of his triples so far would have been out of Comiskey on any summer day without a gale force wind blowing in or across). The thing is, everyone was "hopefully optimistic" Anderson could get up to a 300 OBP. Now we're talking 350? The biggest problem with this approach is that he will start to get a reputation for NOT swinging early in counts...he will get down 0-1 and 0-2, and then his K rate will dramatically escalate. Anderson has been making decent contact...Fields is the one whose swing is getting bigger and he's looking more like a slugger in terms of his K numbers without any homers to back it up. As long as Josh has his share of doubles and triples, it would be okay if he only hit 15-18 homers...but I think many were expecting 25-30-35 homers, a .230-.240 average and 300 OBP. I think May will be a good test for Anderson, Ramirez and Fields. To see what kind of hitters they're really going to evolve into...April is too difficult, with the inconsistent weather, domes, rain, sleet....Chicago and Detroit weather. He is taking pitches that all balls. The word was he swings at bad pitches so throw him junk he is not doing that now and seems ot have made that adjustment. So if there is a first pitch strike he may swing at it no??? As for his OBP if you are going to point out what he is not doing, why can't it be pointed out what he is doing. He may suck and be released by May 15th but as of right now I like what I am seeing. I'll take this approach over the approach that gets him home runs, we can get those elsewhere. -

QUOTE (lostfan @ Apr 20, 2009 -> 07:43 AM) Fields is contacting his way into power I should add. I know a majority of this board will be all over me for this but maybe Greg Walker is having an influence on young guys. He is not going to change the likes of Konerko, Dye, A.J., Thome and even Ramirez as he could not do anything for Uribe as some hitters are what they are. Did he help Quentin...maybe refined him a little. The thing is, Anderson and Fields seem to simply want to make contact rather than hit for power (i.e. lift and pull). With this, comes lower power numbers. As these guys cut down on their strikeouts and become more selective the power will return. As for Anderson's RBI's and OPS, I rather he have an OBP of >.350 and let the other guys drive in the runs or be on base for the top of the order. -
QUOTE (joejoedairy @ Apr 19, 2009 -> 03:32 PM) great series lets go beat up on the orioles With Mora and possibly Jones being out
-
QUOTE (Princess Dye @ Apr 19, 2009 -> 03:28 PM) i remember reading that teammates at all levels have gotten on Quentin for being named Carlos but knowing no spanish I think his parents are from Mexico. Loiza was all bent out of shape about it I beleive.
-
QUOTE (Princess Dye @ Apr 19, 2009 -> 03:28 PM) either does half the team, semi-green I was going to use green but thought it was obvious. Who chews Double Bubble by the way, that stuff is terrible.
-
QUOTE (Princess Dye @ Apr 19, 2009 -> 03:23 PM) bartolo never seems to be talking to teammates How did he get up there???? Also, I do not think he speaks English.
-
Off topic but a marketing hint Wrigleyville Sports want to cater to all Chicago fans and has many different commercials......they need to tailor the commercial to the team that is palying (i.e. when you show the store, show other swag other than cub crap). Carry on.

QUOTE (lostfan @ Apr 19, 2009 -> 03:20 PM) And he was that when he was tearing up the minors too. Him doing this in the majors when healthy shouldn't be much of a surprise. Ya but when he is 40, they will not be homers!!!!!!! Stoney says the fans are booing the balls & strikes. Someone is going to hurt themself swinging so hard.
-
QUOTE (lostfan @ Apr 19, 2009 -> 03:18 PM) What is the crowd booing about? My guess the wave isn't taking affect.
-
Nice piece of hitting by BA. The Sox have hit Shields, Kazmir and Garza pretty well. They need more cow bell.
-
Have a day Wilson. Anderson going to hurt himself trying to crush the ball and get that OPS higher.
-
QUOTE (MexSoxFan#1 @ Apr 19, 2009 -> 03:10 PM) this should've been a 4 game sweep Hawk will be talking about that for the remainder of the season as a measuring stick of how great this team is and quite possibly for years to come. He will talk about how they were one pitch away last year from sweeping them and instead lost 3 of 4 and shoudl have won 8 in a row.
-
QUOTE (fathom @ Apr 19, 2009 -> 03:02 PM) I'd like to see Ramirez get an AB. I'd like to see Fields get an AB. I think Ramirez can use the two days off. I hope this game is McDougal/Richard proof.
-
Jerry just got himself penciled into the starting line-up with a good ab there. The thing is, production out of 9, 1 and 2 will make your team better as the pitchers have to work and nothing comes easy so the good hitters can do the damage after the pitcher has had to work all day.
-
QUOTE (lostfan @ Apr 19, 2009 -> 02:58 PM) Carlos's limp, powerless right wrist deposits another souvenir into the left field bleachers. Sorry about bad mouthing Thome earlier in the thread. Ya but how many of Quentin Hr's this year fit in the category of the "barely making it " thread?

That man is good, mercy.

Would've liked to see a longer at-bat by Lillibridge there.
-
I was at the Hawks game last night. Who pitched other than Buerhle and Carraso. With off day tomorrow the better pen guys shoudl get some work if need be.
-
QUOTE (fathom @ Apr 19, 2009 -> 02:28 PM) Tampa gets first 2 men on. Betemit had a pathetic attempt at a foul ball. Don't let this game get interesting. Ever since the spring training game he botched at short, Betemit has not been looking to impressive. Floyd needs to pitch through this.
-
I have not been watching the whole game but what is Garza's issue? Seems that Ozzie is having a better indoor team which may help in Minnesota. Lillibridge and Getz seem like good turf guys.
-
QUOTE (fathom @ Apr 19, 2009 -> 02:07 PM) The patience from this team is unlike anything we've seen in a while. I prefeace this by saying I am a Brian Anderson but I think he and Lillibridge are making the pitcher work and it is having a ripple affect throughout the game. There does not seem ot be the 5 pitch inning. Was that hit hard enough for you?
-
QUOTE (fathom @ Apr 19, 2009 -> 01:58 PM) He's crushing the ball....no issues at all with his approach. Not a big Betemit fan early. I like the BA and Lillibridge approach, at least make the pitcher work. Until Thome starts hitting more consistently I'd like to see Konerko or Dye moved up while they are hot.

I wish people on this site would realize that Brian Anderson has the tools and potential to be a five tool player. The thing is, it hasn't clicked yet, that is what us "fanboys" are looking at. Jerry Owens is at best a one tool player and Dewayne Wise is a 31 year old career minor leaguer. Anderson if given a shot the next few weeks to play every day should then be evaluated.
