  1. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Apr 30, 2009 -> 12:06 PM) I think you've got stuff messed up. Farraday started thinking he COULD change the past, we found out he could not. He was always meant to be killed by his own mother (Eloise), hence why we saw the scene where she got so upset at Widmore after she sent her son off to die at the island. She knew it would start a chain of events that would eventually lead her to killing her own son... she already knew that would happen. For what... I guess we find out soon enough. A couple of things What did we know of Radsinsky and Horace prior to this season if anything, I am forgetting. The Jack airplane rides and the Locke death time line do not make sense. When Ben killed Locke, Ben told him that Jack had booked what appeared to be his first ticket to try and crash, then Ben kills Locke. Yet when Jack reads the obit and goes to the funeral home to see dead Locke he states to Kate that he has been flying for some time t otry and crash. Where are Bernard Rose and the rest of the gang? Did the firey torches do them in and who shoot those torches and whose boats were those..I assume we will find out in time. Last weeks episode was such a waste.
  2. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Apr 30, 2009 -> 07:24 AM) Baseball Tonight was pretty heavy on the Ryan/ Clemens comparisons. I had to shut it off. Those dopes over blow everything to epic proportions. I thought Grieneke was more of a finese pitcher, more like a Mike Mussina....oh wait the comparison needs to be more dramatic. The MLB Network is great. The cub fan from Comcast whose name is escaping me, Sean Casey, Barry Larkin and Al Leiter are really good. I'd like to see kruk go over there.
  3. Wow did that bullpen implode. Why does this thread cease to exist when the cubs are playing bad. Lil Fontenot during hte Hawks game was classic at third and the enemic D'Backs offense really showed how mediocorethe cubs can be. Dempster is coming down to earth and Marmol really needs to regain his stuff or it will be a long year. The best approach with Marmol is to wait him out.
  4. QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Apr 30, 2009 -> 09:07 AM) I agree with this. I've taken my kids (8 and 6) to quite a few stadiums and nothing compares to the fun they have at the Cell. That Fundamentals deck is really nice. It's a good excuse to get to the game early and they dig it. Great thread, thanks for the tips. Looking forward to my yearly pilgrimage now that I have the 411 on that breaded steak sandwich. Man that looks good... The fundamentals are great borderline incredible. Unfortunately you are limited in being able to watch the game.........I guess I am being selfish. The Section 149 BBQ stand is awesome as I stated earlier. The lady Tuesday cut back on the portion but the normal lady gives you a nice sandwich. Also get a combo half brisket/half pulled pork and give her a little tip and it is meal well worth it. For $8 (tip included) it really was that good.
  5. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 29, 2009 -> 03:24 PM) Yovani Gallardo has pitched 8 innings of 2 hit shutout ball, and the Brewers lead 1-0. The Brewers lone run? A Home run by Yovani Gallardo. I wish they would get Peavy and a healthy Hoffman.
  6. QUOTE (CanOfCorn @ Apr 29, 2009 -> 04:53 PM) Tres out-o's. Ballgame... o. Well all right than. I thought it was like the 5th inning with the way Floyd was getting pounded.
  7. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Apr 29, 2009 -> 04:49 PM) Whatever. His average is lower than BA's, he sucks. The only issue keeping TCQ from being a superstar are the random bad at-bats. He is also not real good at judging fly balls. Other than he is the goods. What is the status of this game BTW? I am at work and jumping in and out of this thread trying to stir the pot. God Bless BA and hope for good health.
  8. QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Apr 29, 2009 -> 04:35 PM) the best part about criticizing one at bat by BA is that it's met with two pages worth of statistical rebuttal. The guy's a f***ing legend. Sasquatch. Brian Anderson and Patrick Kane are similar in that the ability is there and you just hope they, like the U.S. Army used to say, would be all that they could be. I like gents with blonde curly hair who are in with the honies.
  9. Alexi moves to Cf and Nix, Betemit or Beckham play short.... oh wait Owens is still around.
  10. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 29, 2009 -> 03:59 PM) Here's the main problem I have with Anderson. He's just baseball-dumb. He has no concept of cutting down his swing on a fastball and just making contact or hitting a sacrifice fly. All he has to do is hit a ground ball or fly ball to the right side of the field. Brian just takes that big, looping swing on a 93 MPH fastball that he could take 100 times and he wouldn't make contact with once. No excuse not to score 2 runs in that situations with 2nd and 3rd, no outs. That is the M.O. of so many people on that team it is ridiculous. Dye swinging 2-0 yesterday and today after a pitcher was struggling to throw strikes. If the bullpen can do their job today the Sox should win without an issue.
  11. QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Apr 29, 2009 -> 03:56 PM) man, that had all the fixins of a BIG inning. That is a big inning for the White Sox. Unless there is a grand slam or 3 run homer in an inning, two runs are the best they can do. I am not joking by the way.
  12. I am a BA fan but he must bat ninth......he also needs to contribute though. That was a situation to succeed. Guillen is showing faith in BA and BA is letting him down which I find sad but is the norm for this team right now. He needs to cut down his swing.
  13. I said this over the weekend and hope I am not right but the WHite Sox seem to be unable to adjust during games and are not hitting bullpen pitching. Again I have no proof just an observation for the last two years.
  14. QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Apr 29, 2009 -> 02:02 PM) Ok i understand Quentin stands on the plate, but he's been hit a lot so far this year. Not watching but he makes no attempt to get out of the way.
  15. QUOTE (greg775 @ Apr 29, 2009 -> 02:54 AM) Hope this thread is saved somewhere. Do they still sell that great corned beef in the same area as the roast beef? I remember corned beef sandwiches years ago. Get a combo, half roast beef / half corned beef do the same at the little BBQ stand alone down the third base line. I used to like the Brat but the kraut is not warmed and the grilled onions seem to be hit or miss on the grilled part of the equation I always get beer from the venodr that keg s*** leaves a nasty hang over. On cold nights, enter the park in RF and hit the bar and get a bomber and take it to your seat. Kids before the age of 7 are not worth it. You spend half of your time trying to entertain them. Unless they are really into it and watch the game at home it is a lost cause. Kids prior to 6 months are fine as they do nothing anyway. Tailgating is great. Use the port-a-jons if they have them. Punch any moron in the outfield that feels the need to make dumb comments that make no sense to the opposing teams outfielders. Trade your tickets in for seats behind home plate or the 300 section. I used to trade in a full price season ticket for a 300 level seat on half price night. That doesn't work anymore as the 300 level is sold out but you can always try. Never been in the Jim Beam club but scout seats are great. I used to try and get in there once a year. Wings and Rings on Halsted is great. Oh and my thoughts on the free t-shirts is well documented in this forum. Anyone that clamours for this crap.......well if you have nothing nice to say......
  16. Bring up PODS to play LF and either leadoff or DH. No worse than having Lillibridge or Owens in the line-up.
  17. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Apr 29, 2009 -> 10:41 AM) His natural tendency is to pull the ball, and while he has good power to left and center field, he's at his absolute best when he's pulling it. When the situation calls for it, he does go the other way, such as when he can bring a runner in from 2nd or 3rd. Push come to shove, he's going to walk right around 100 times every season, and he's got ridiculous power to right field. So why would he try and poke a single to left field when he's just as likely to end up on 1st in the AB? I have no problem with the way Thome handles himself at the plate, and he's one of the smartest hitters the Sox have. He's just getting old and the bat speed is starting to slow down. A differnt appraoch at this point in his career against a tough leftie would not be the worst thing is what I think everyone is saying. Especially when he is slumping.
  18. Why is Lillibridge on this team and Nix sitting at AAA. I know Nix will get hurt but he could lead-off and hopefully stay healthy until Getz comes back. After Tampa I had some hope for Lillibridge but now, not so much. He needs to change his approach to a slap hitter like an Eckstein and hope his speed can carry him.
  19. QUOTE (kyyle23 @ Apr 27, 2009 -> 07:36 AM) Last night on the radio John Clayton said that no one has had a worse offseason than Josh McDaniels. He downgraded from Cutler to Orton, didnt address any of the team needs through the draft, traded away future picks. He was quite critical of young Josh That is funny. For the two minutes I listened to Mike and Mike, some guy was praising Josh McDaniels for getting the RB he got because he did not like Cutler and therefore he got the better of the trade....
  20. Can somebody pull this stat that may sound dumb but I would like to know what he Sox are hitting after the 6th inning in their losses. They seem to lose rather meekly.
  21. QUOTE (SouthsideDon48 @ Apr 26, 2009 -> 01:38 AM) Now please don't think I'm trying to incite anything, I just have a question... This is a "he said he said" thing, where someone told me sonething that someone else told him, so I'm actually the 3rd party. Anyway, one of my friends told me his college professor, who's from Ohio, told him that Thome used to beat his wife while he played for the Indians. Any truth to this??? I didn't know whether or not it was true, so I just pretended I believed my friend when he told me. What really is the point of this post?
  22. I think he is a feel pitcher and it may take a while. I only saw the 4th through 7th innings today and he did not look good. All four broadcasters said otherwise and that once he gets his control he will be fine........... I thought Guillen should have pulled him after five and let Richard go as the O's had what seemed like 7 lefties. Richard did not look any better and he has not shown that he deserves a shot. I fear the options are very limited.
  23. QUOTE (lostfan @ Apr 21, 2009 -> 11:04 AM) So I was going to go to this game but because my wife has other arrangements she made recently, I have to stick around so I can pick up my stepdaughter from her basketball game. The real question is, should I divorce my wife for hindering my ability to attend a Sox game? Convince the step duaghter that the opportunity to see Q is much more important than a basketball game. A nice evening out with the step daughter and Q could be memorable.
  24. QUOTE (danman31 @ Apr 20, 2009 -> 12:23 PM) What is with this Chuck s***? Why Chuck? He is not a fat white 40-year-old living in Nebraska. No but he would be a biggest badass Texas Ranger that ever walked. Think the Mexican version of Shaft! He comes equipped with the big ass stick and all. Also during the Bowflex commercials he could just growl........well I guess that would be his wife but this covers all infomercails that he would do.
  25. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 20, 2009 -> 10:14 AM) Well, people are already starting to get on Fields for not hitting any homers (although one or maybe both of his triples so far would have been out of Comiskey on any summer day without a gale force wind blowing in or across). The thing is, everyone was "hopefully optimistic" Anderson could get up to a 300 OBP. Now we're talking 350? The biggest problem with this approach is that he will start to get a reputation for NOT swinging early in counts...he will get down 0-1 and 0-2, and then his K rate will dramatically escalate. Anderson has been making decent contact...Fields is the one whose swing is getting bigger and he's looking more like a slugger in terms of his K numbers without any homers to back it up. As long as Josh has his share of doubles and triples, it would be okay if he only hit 15-18 homers...but I think many were expecting 25-30-35 homers, a .230-.240 average and 300 OBP. I think May will be a good test for Anderson, Ramirez and Fields. To see what kind of hitters they're really going to evolve into...April is too difficult, with the inconsistent weather, domes, rain, sleet....Chicago and Detroit weather. He is taking pitches that all balls. The word was he swings at bad pitches so throw him junk he is not doing that now and seems ot have made that adjustment. So if there is a first pitch strike he may swing at it no??? As for his OBP if you are going to point out what he is not doing, why can't it be pointed out what he is doing. He may suck and be released by May 15th but as of right now I like what I am seeing. I'll take this approach over the approach that gets him home runs, we can get those elsewhere.
