  1. How does an MRI indicating an MCL sprain derail anyone pushing back against the ridiculous criticism of Cutler here?
  2. QUOTE (Y2HH @ Jan 24, 2011 -> 02:22 PM) And since you didn't see it on TV, and one of his teammates made up an excuse for him, it must be true! I can do that, too. That's not how it works. What reason do I have to doubt Hanie, aside from meatball incredulity and the desire to call Cutler a p****?
  3. QUOTE (Y2HH @ Jan 24, 2011 -> 02:20 PM) I can credit you for keeping my nerves in check, too...but did you? Every shot I saw of cutler on the sidelines he did none of those things. He was riding a bike. Talking to trainers. Sitting on a bench with his coat on. Sitting on the bench with his coat on with headphones on. Walking around. Sitting on the bench again. Granted the cameras weren't on him for 30 minutes, but every time they were, he wasn't talking to the backups, he wasn't doing anything. So I'm not buying it. Oh ok. We've got one of the QB's giving him credit, but since you didn't see it on TV, it must be bulls***!
  4. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Jan 24, 2011 -> 02:20 PM) He did. There was also one point where they did show those two going over plays together on the sidelines but people seem to forget that for some reason. Chronic meatballitis.
  5. QUOTE (Y2HH @ Jan 24, 2011 -> 02:16 PM) No, because he didn't. Never saw him on the sidelines talking to either backup, never saw him reviewing pictures with them, or micing himself up and wearing a headset to assist like every other #1 QB that goes down does. I also don't care and at this point I'm just stirring the pot. I thought Hanie credited Cutler with helping him keep his nerves in check?
  6. QUOTE (DrunkBomber @ Jan 24, 2011 -> 02:16 PM) Yes this is basically what Im trying to say. Its not just the "meatball" fans who are curious about why this injury kept him out. The group that is criticizing him more then anyone else are current and former NFL players, some of which have had similar injuries. I wouldnt have expected to hear anything different from the Bears camp but to me it sounds like the coaching staff is covering for him, which they should be. Most of the people who are criticizing him started well before anything was known other than that Cutler wasn't playing.
  7. QUOTE (iamshack @ Jan 24, 2011 -> 01:49 PM) And people tear things all the time. You tear connective tissue and ligament fibers from stretching alone. Just because there was tearing, doesn't mean it was some terribly debilitating injury. Ultimately, none of us will know, because we are not Jay. But jeesh, as Ptatc mentioned, they certainly didn't seem to concerned about treating him on the sidelines. They cared enough to pull him from the game.
  8. QUOTE (fathom @ Jan 24, 2011 -> 01:47 PM) So the media questioned Lovie why Collins was 2nd string over Hanie? That's the biggest coaching issue that came from yesterday, and one that was pretty inexcusable after the Panthers game. Yes, typical Lovie non-answer about how he likes their QB evaluation. He slipped a little bit at the end and admitted that they wanted a veteran at #2.
  9. QUOTE (fathom @ Jan 24, 2011 -> 01:41 PM) Thanks, I probably have a better insight of medical stuff on this board (besides ptatc). To say the MCL is completely torn is wrong. I'd love to know what B&B have to say about this now. They're in complete meltdown mode, thanks in large part to people saying stupid s*** like "Cutler is a p****!" and not understanding what "sprain" means.
  10. QUOTE (fathom @ Jan 24, 2011 -> 12:18 PM) No, that was just a terrible pass by Cutler. Watch the replay. Hester clearly slows up at one point. Not sure he'd have gotten even if he didn't, but he slowed the route.
  11. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jan 24, 2011 -> 11:30 AM) Reports are out that Cutler tore his MCL on the 2nd to last series of the 1st half. Which means he played as many as 3 series with a torn MCL. I'd say that takes some sort of toughness to do. Also, there are reports that Cutler lobbied to stay in the game but the medical staff deemed him unable to play. So I'd say he played 3 series hurt before the medical staff and Bears collectively decided that he wasn't healthy enough to play and that was it. Yeah, well, if Cutler wasn't such a p****, his MCL wouldn't have torn to begin with!
  12. ptact could correct me, but I believe you can still have some mobility with partially torn ligaments in the knee. you just won't be able to do much of anything with that leg, certainly not run and throw. I'm withholding any judgement against Cutler until we really know what happened. As a rule, I don't take anything reported via twitter to be anything more than wild speculation.
  13. QUOTE (nitetrain8601 @ Jan 23, 2011 -> 06:18 PM) Cutler took himself out. Are you seriously saying lovie shouldve risked collins throwing an int? The.bears had no chance with collins. Props for lovie recognizing that early enough They ran it twice with Hanie in the 3rd. No excuse for that terrible 3rd and 3 play, either.
  14. The terrible field conditions are a national story/joke. again.
  15. Guys, guys, the real kicker is
  16. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Jan 19, 2011 -> 01:27 PM) http://www.chicagobreakingsports.com/2011/...-with-espn.html Strikes me as a gigantic conflict. ESPN being their loudest cheerleader basically guarantees that Texas will remain relevant on a national scale. Gottleib spent a while on his show Wednesday trying to claim that it wasn't. It was a pretty bad argument. He also asserted that this will help all Big 12 schools because a "rising tide lifts all boats," but he never explained how the massive funding advantage for Texas really will benefit others.
  17. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Jan 21, 2011 -> 02:19 PM) He did? And the review by a private company would never happen. Neither party would give up that control/opportunity to ridicule the other side. I don't know why they should, either. We don't elect politicians to blindly follow 3rd party think-tank recommendations. And I don't know how you'd ever get something agreed to--Republicans would always want something like CATO or Heritage, Democrats would always want (insert liberal version, drawing a blank)
  18. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Jan 21, 2011 -> 02:10 PM) That's an....interesting picture there. Not to be morbid or anything, but does anyone know exactly where/how she was shot through the head?
  19. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Jan 21, 2011 -> 02:06 PM) I dunno how cutting money from the budget in this fashion isn't a positive on some level. Is it the best way to do it? No. But we're dealing with the government here. Every dollar is necessary will always be the argument. I'd agree with a plan that can look department by department and put a percentage based on that. Wanna talk about a campaign promise that has NEVER been done - "i'll go through the budget, line by line, and make cuts." It's probably too impractical to do that. One side will find X line important, but the other won't. We all know this is just posturing. But it'll (hopefully) start a national discussion. It's not perfect, but it's a start. this is a fair point. When you target specific programs, people can rally to oppose those specific cuts and come up with concrete examples of what bad things will happen if cuts are made. When you make blanket, untargeted cuts at the political level (and let the employee-level people handle it), it's harder to oppose anything in specific.
  20. Ok, I wasn't arguing against reasonable, analytical cuts or increasing efficiencies. I was arguing against ATB cuts as lazy and less effective than targeted cuts, to the point of being harmful and damaging to overall operational capabilities.
  21. QUOTE (GoodAsGould @ Jan 21, 2011 -> 01:57 PM) By his criteria the RedSox/Yankee rivalry wasn't real until this past decade. By his definition rivalry is defined as "what ESPN currently hypes the most"
  22. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jan 21, 2011 -> 10:10 AM) Saw Dinner for Schmucks, I remember at least one or two posters here really didn't like that movie....but actually thought it wasn't bad at all, and definitely not a Steve Carell fan (unless it's offbeat like Little Miss Sunshine or Life of Dan). Really like Paul Rudd, Role Models and I Love You, Man are two of my favorite comedies of the last 5 years or so. If I remember correctly, he was also in Knocked Up, too. I know Katherine Heigl has a lot of haters these days (because of her movies and her "attitude" in interviews and a few controversial issues with Grey's Anatomy)....but I liked Knocked Up, and I'm really getting bored with Seth Rogen. The only thing I liked about Green Hornet was Cameron Diaz (horribly underutilized) and his tech-savvy sidekick, the famous Chinese singer Jay Chou. Christopher Waltz from Inglorious Basterds was a barely tolerable villain, seems like the role was way underwritten and he was trying to hard to force it, but not good at all. Definitely not the type of movie you pay $10 to see. I assume you mean "dan in real life." If so, all I can say is that that movie was absolutely terrible. Borderline unwatchable for me.
  23. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jan 21, 2011 -> 01:42 PM) Across the board, all-department cuts of X% are ineffective and will make things worse, not better. You would be cutting 20% of some programs that actually help the economy and should be left alone... and cutting 20% of some agencies that should be cut 50% or eliminated all together. Its nonsensical, and the only reason its done in either the private sector of government is desperation and/or laziness. Thank you. Y2HH, I don't care if your company's management took the generally lazy, less-effective route instead of using this as an opportunity to cut inefficiencies and redundancies in the best possible way. Sure, when you make atb cuts, department heads are going to look to cut the waste out, so you may do some good. But you can also cut too much from departments, turning them non-functional or reducing their profitability. Or maybe Department X has 50% that can be cut (old methods, old technology, shrinking markets, etc.) while Department Y only really has 10% (newer tech, needs R&D money) they can cut without undermining their capabilities.
  24. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Jan 21, 2011 -> 01:19 PM) Tough titties as they say. Everyone else has suffered, those people can take a hit too. Uh, I think the people relying on government aid for sustenance and housing feel some suffering regardless of the economic situation. Because of the current economic situation, more people are having to rely on these programs just to get by. Cutting them will hurt the people who can afford it least.
  25. QUOTE (Y2HH @ Jan 21, 2011 -> 01:15 PM) That "control" is a mirage. They only have as much control as you give them. If you want to do something with your Apple stuff, DO IT. It's not that hard. You can jailbreak their software, you can open up their phones, computers, pads and anything else they make and hack that, too. That voids the EULA and any sort of warranties, though.
