  1. QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Feb 26, 2010 -> 12:50 AM) To me, there has to be some sort of very common or at least reasonably common occurance which can cause a person to breathe hard from athletic effort for it to be a sport. Thus, I only voted WNBA and 16" softball. And I'd have voted for figure skating if it were on there as well. Generally, you need to be in very good shape to be a race car driver. Especially if its something like F1. It is physically exhausting to drive a car like that. I don't know if that makes it a sport, but it's not like driving a Camry on the highway. Now for the stock (mis-attributed) Hemmingway quote: “Auto racing, bull fighting, and mountain climbing are the only real sports ... all others are games."
  2. What are you going on about? They are different procedures and you tried to conflate them into the same thing. I didn't make an argument for or against the use of either, just against trying to say that they're the same thing. edit: AIISII is about the executive's power over the military, treaties and appointments.
  3. They are, by definition, two distinct processes. That's not justification, that's how words work. edit: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Reconciliatio...tates_Congress) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nuclear_option They are two different processes, Kap. No amount of "OMG everything is always equal!" will actually make them the same thing.
  4. QUOTE (kapkomet @ Feb 25, 2010 -> 05:20 PM) The Democrats use it for "good purposes" and the Republicans use it for "bad purposes". We get it, Rex. "It" in each section of that sentence refers to different things. Stop equivocating.
  5. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Feb 24, 2010 -> 08:31 PM) I don't know but why is that our business? What about the 5 million that have been killed in the Congo? You're a progressive; shouldn't you be looking past national identities and seeing them as another human being?
  6. No, I wasn't, I was just making a flippant emotional argument to counter BS's emotional argument.
  7. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Feb 24, 2010 -> 08:23 PM) You're going to use Western media as your case for that? How many civilians were killed this week? How many girls attempting to get an education didn't have acid thrown on them by the Taliban?
  8. Obama is doing in Afghanistan pretty much exactly what he said he'd do during his campaign. edit: http://www.boston.com/news/nation/articles...fghan_strategy/
  9. Obama always talked about increasing troop levels in Afghanistan.
  10. QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Feb 24, 2010 -> 02:45 PM) No. Bacardi factory in the morning, Old San Juan in the early afternoon and toured the old fort (San Cristobal?). Ate dinner at Senor Frogs and was back on the ship by 8. It wasnt bad, but it just didnt seem very "Caribbean" to me. I enjoyed the stops on Tortola and the Dominican much better. San Juan to me just seems like something I could see in Miami. I liked the other parts of Puerto Rico better, but Old San Juan was still cool.

    LOST!!!!

I've read that Shannon is returning. Boone was already shown by himself on the plane.
  12. Went there on vacation last April and now my fiance and I are planning on getting married there. Because its a US territory there's a weird mix of km and miles units on the highways.
  13. Unless you're a big fan of equivocation.

He wasn't trying to signal anyone, just f with Jack's mind.
  15. QUOTE (Tex @ Feb 24, 2010 -> 07:10 AM) It may have changed, but because the lights were part of a display case, it was ruled we needed a union guy to check it out and plug it in. Sorry I wasn't clear, I was agreeing with you. McCormick requires that work to be done by union electricians but there is absolutely no reason that I am not just as capable of plugging in a lamp.
  16. You do not need electricians to plug in consumer appliances or carry in more than two bottles of water.
  17. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Feb 23, 2010 -> 12:34 PM) That's why I said this... Well, yeah, of course. I only posted what I did because I skimmed the thread before posting instead of actually reading it.
  18. QUOTE (Rex Kicka** @ Feb 23, 2010 -> 10:30 AM) The government is secular, by establishment. However, there has been a lot of islamic talk in the government over the last few years IIRC. That's what I've heard as well but I don't exactly follow Turkish politics.
  19. It wasn't just a simple mortgage lien. He had outstanding IRS and legal issues stemming from a lawsuit over his business that was settled 10 years ago.

  21. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Feb 18, 2010 -> 08:09 AM) My god, the corporatist democrats have been replaced by shape-shifting aliens! Obvious question: why not stick around to lead this effort instead of whining about it?
  22. QUOTE (Cknolls @ Feb 18, 2010 -> 12:08 PM) But science is never politicized . EPA guidelines are politicized, not the science that should guide those decisions. These leaks are a serious concern and they need to be solved. For future plants, they need to be mitigated as much as possible. edit: NRC site on tritium: http://www.nrc.gov/reading-rm/doc-collecti...diation-fs.html
