Shouting irrational, hyperbolic fears is the highest form of discourse.

QUOTE (vandy125 @ Aug 13, 2009 -> 07:28 AM) Saw this NY Times article this morning. One of the big problems that I have not yet seen addressed is that physicians are able to charge whatever they want right now for anyone but Medicare and the insurers end up footing the bill most of the time. High Healthcare Costs The argument is that they have to charge that much to make up for underpaying Medicare coverage.

QUOTE (DukeNukeEm @ Aug 13, 2009 -> 01:09 AM) blah I must be the only person in the country who is completely sick and tired of hearing about anything regarding the 'founding' of America 250 years ago. Whether it's what the "founding father's would've wanted" or some hilariously outdated document that people still cling to, the whole idea of trying to get back to our roots is so (for lack of a better word) gullible. We dont live in 1789 America anymore folks, if you haven't noticed. I get what you're saying here; WWTFFD? is just an appeal to a long-dead authority. "Jefferson said it!" is used in place of actually giving a reason for why something is or isn't the right thing to do. But, in the end, the Constitution is the law and it does need to be followed.

That was a stupid base running decision.

QUOTE (SoxFan101 @ Aug 12, 2009 -> 09:55 PM) Im just in awe how good King Felix looks, we just got to work that pitch count and hopefully get to the bp. It is ridiculous how bad our lefties have looked so far up against him. AJ, Thome and Pods all have hits. The righties haven't done anything.

QUOTE (G&T @ Aug 12, 2009 -> 09:48 PM) His 1.012 OPS in his last 11 games disagrees. QUOTE (wsgdf_2 @ Aug 12, 2009 -> 09:49 PM) Not true: Going into last night, since Quentin has been back from the DL he's batting .257/.350/.457 for a .807 OPS His last 11 games he's batting .342/.432/.684 for an OPS of 1.116 QUOTE (Princess Dye @ Aug 12, 2009 -> 09:49 PM) anyone saying that about cq cannot seriously have been watching games recently. epic fail man stranded runners really brings out the attack dogs Yeah, my mistake, I haven't watched in about a week or so when he was still struggling. I'll double-check before ever disparaging the great one again.

TCQ is not very good right now.

QUOTE (JorgeFabregas @ Aug 12, 2009 -> 09:43 PM) Gameday had it as a borderline strike. It was high and a few inches inside. Rios had maybe 1/4 of a swing at it.

Umpires should be fined $5k for every terrible call they make. Maybe we'll see the quality of umpiring rise if there's real penalties for sucking at it.

What a s*** call.

Stone called that entire Nix AB. It was really kinda sad.

ABC had an article on their website last night saying it was incorrect and NPR had a story this morning trying to find the source of the incorrect claim. They're still maintaining "objectivity," which means "don't question R's or they'll whine 'liberal bias'!" I don't like Democrats or a lot of the Democrat platform on economics, but I want them to win just to spite the Republicans.

QUOTE (lostfan @ Aug 12, 2009 -> 10:50 AM) I just don't get it... why so indignant about a hyperbolic, hypothetical scenario that doesn't even exist? Exhibit A of why I hate populist movements. The knowledge base behind them is about ankle deep.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 12, 2009 -> 10:07 AM) Second; the way to make these technologies more efficient? Start building them. With Baseload solar (concentrated solar thermal with storage), solar cells, wind power, etc., for all of the renewables basically, the big costs are the startup costs to design the programs, build the factories, build the windmills, build the plants, etc. The costs of running the plants after they're started up are much smaller than the initial costs. The only way to bring those costs down is to be able to spread the development costs out; once you've built the factory, everything else you build in that factory helps pay for it. The more of it you use, the more efficient it becomes. It plays right into the technology development life cycle. Most R&D money up front is spent on exploring a large area of the design space with novel options and features, new designs, new architectures, etc. Eventually, the market settles on a certain design and the process innovations (reducing manufacturing costs, increasing efficiencies) really start to ramp up.

you left out nuclear

Maybe the EPA will eventually come up with a "per unit energy" rating so that you can compare the efficiencies of different power generation platforms. I'm sure there's room for an environmental group to come up with a "CO2/mile" rating for cars, though it might be expensive to test and develop accurately. Unless its just derived from EPA fuel economy numbers.

More retarded rhetoric: Professor Hawking was born, raised in and resides in the UK. From Investors Business Daily. If that's the quality of their reporting, I'll do the opposite of whatever investment advice they give.

This was all over the news. For days.

QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Aug 10, 2009 -> 08:50 AM) I was actually thinking the lack of the correct religion or something like that. that might be more accurate for some people, but I have no idea what the poster in this thread was driving at.

QUOTE (Tex @ Aug 9, 2009 -> 08:56 PM) Call them what you will, they saved my golf game when MDs could not. see above: Ok, I should have qualified my statement. I do think chiros can help with back pain. I don't think that "spinal alignment" can affect asthma, cancer, diabetes, etc. like some chiros claim. There seems to be a chasm between these two groups of chiros.
