  1. QUOTE (mr_genius @ Aug 9, 2009 -> 07:43 PM) yea, that sounds like a fairly unusual conclusion to reach. Seniors think that some of their government coverage will be reduced to pay for younger uninsured’s . There may be some legitimate point buried in there. It talked about cutting Medicare $500 Billion with a B but I'd be curious to know if they'd be eligible for some other option instead. Anyway, part of it was definitely "You don't want the Government controlling health care!" and the other part was "They took yer Medicare!"
  2. QUOTE (SI1020 @ Aug 8, 2009 -> 06:18 PM) 1. I don't believe in evolution. I also think it is completely and thoroughly unprovable scientifically. Incorrect. It can be tested and observed. Correct. The underlying idea makes no falsifiable predictions, so they cannot be tested. Specific claims are falsifiable, however (and they've been shown to be false).
  3. So I just saw a commercial by the "60 plus committee" (anyone else watching Discovery?). I thought it was funny how they were talking about how awful government health care coverage will be while also talking about how great seniors' Medicare coverage is. I have no faith in this country ever getting major reform of anything through the legislature.
  4. Beck equates Stem Cells and Eugenics. I'll quote the person I got this from: "Calling this "bats*** insane" would be an unwarranted slander of bats and their s***, so I don't know what to call it."
  5. Why isn't Beckham hitting .400 yet?1?! Toying with his opponents?
  6. These things are going to turn violent at some point. It won't be pretty.
  7. QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Aug 7, 2009 -> 09:47 AM) More traveling or more inflation?
  8. QUOTE (YASNY @ Aug 7, 2009 -> 09:17 AM) It's still embarrassing. It's a joke. Literally.
  9. I've been having some problems with my ESPN feed and the NBC feed screwed up last night.
  10. QUOTE (lostfan @ Aug 7, 2009 -> 09:01 AM) Cknolls, please put a link on your copied articles, that's a legal/copyright issue. I've noticed more and more boards getting strict about this. We shouldn't C&P more than a paragraph of an article, either.
  11. QUOTE (lostfan @ Aug 6, 2009 -> 04:52 PM) The protesters feel like they have a right to shout down town hall meetings, and they do, but someone needs to tell them they look and sound like screaming f***ing idiots and their overall contribution to the dialogue is less than worthless. The questions in that handout FreedomWorks® are all along the lines of "when did you stop beating your wife?"
  12. Keebler has had thin mint knock-offs for years.
  13. Beckham's August line: .467/.467/.933/1.400 Why haven't they just declared him MVP, GG and Cy Young winner yet?
  14. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Aug 6, 2009 -> 09:46 AM) via Sullivan that's a bit of a stretch imo.
  15. I hate objective analysis! Good article, thanks for the post.
  16. QUOTE (3E8 @ Aug 5, 2009 -> 10:07 PM) Organic food tastes better to me. The difference in most fruits and chicken are especially noticeable. And if you buy Whole Foods house brand stuff on selective items (I don't buy my toilet paper, cereal, etc. there), it's not anymore expensive than the regular store There's another factor to consider: the Whole Foods-type market is already a premium market compared to standard grocery store vegetables. So, even if they were selling non-organics, they might taste better simply because Whole Foods supplies high-quality (and higher cost) goods.
  17. I'd love to shop at the local farmer's market but it runs from something like 7-9 on Saturdays. That's prime sleeping time. edit: and, as Balta points out, eating 'better' means paying more. Processed, mass-produced food is cheap.
  18. Large-scale organic farming, at least as the tech. currently exists, isn't sustainable. It would take way, way too much land. I know they've had some problems of run-off from organic farms in Scotland polluting local water streams. Manure run-off isn't necessarily better than fertilizer run-off. edit: You can increase biodiversity, however. If I remember what I've read correctly, our highly-homogeneous agricultural strains are susceptible to some sort of pandemic which would lead to world-wide food shortages.
  19. QUOTE (BlackBetsy @ Aug 5, 2009 -> 08:52 PM) Did you see the way Beckham set that home run up with the double? I mean, he could have hit the home run himself, but he is a good teammate and wanted Thome to feel better about himself. That's how good Beckham is.
