LOST!!!!
I've found I'm less excited about this upcoming season than previous ones. It's gone from adventure/ mystery to drama/ sci-fi imo. I'll still watch, though.

Nuke or Bio Terror Attack in US "likely" by 2013
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 2, 2008 -> 04:49 PM) Canada has a moderately enormous shoreline, and it's only growing as the ice pulls back. If I'm complaining about the 1-2 guys that patrol the coast of Oregon for example...imagine that problem in the 2nd largest country in the world. How much of the coastline is really navigable by small ships that wouldn't be noticed?

How do you get it into Canada in the first place?

QUOTE (lostfan @ Dec 2, 2008 -> 02:42 PM) BTW a word of advice to anybody who hasn't reached the end of the main storyline in Fallout 3 - if you want to do other things in the game before beating it, know that the game abruptly ends, with little warning. The farthest you can go in the storyline is "The American Dream" before you get to the point of no return, so stop there if you want to do other stuff in the game. Actually you can start that quest, just don't go to finish it because it basically rolls right into the next one when you do. Good tip. I knew about this from a friend and so I barely touched the main quest. Be aware that going to certain locations (Rivet City, Vault 87) ahead of time can also jump the main storyline ahead by a quest or two. I just finished up all of the side quests last night and still have a bit of exploring to do before moving on to the main quest. I did the same thing in Oblivion but lost interested after raiding the 100th same cavern/ ruins.

Miss England told that she's too fat
QUOTE (Flash Tizzle @ Dec 2, 2008 -> 12:01 PM) I honestly believe a woman's desire to be rail-thin has little to do with how men perceive them. Someone must have told Karen Carpenter at some point that there would be a million men willing to knock down her door and touch her in inappropriate places. I have a theory -- it's similar to those girls who wear revealing clothes yet feel offended when men notice their titties hanging out. It's about self esteem, and wearing sexy clothes makes the woman feel sexier in the company of other women. This is where I believe the issue presents itself. It's not as if they're torturing themselves for the affection of men. Instead, it's so they can feel as pretty as the models on television or their ridiculous magazines. And no amount of telling them they're beautiful is going to change it. That's sort of circular, though, isn't it? It is about feeling beautiful, pretty, wanted, desired, etc. And thanks to the advertising trends, they're repeatedly told that, in order to be those things, they need to be a size zero. Could just be natural body build. Myself, my younger brother and my grandfather are all 6'2" to 6'4" and we all weigh under 170 (at least my grandpa did when he was younger, has a whiskey gut now). I eat 2-3000 calories a day and don't exercise as much as I should (read: I'm lazy and don't burn a lot of calories), but I can't put on weight without consuming a massive amount of calories and lifting daily. My favorite meal is probably a 1/2# bacon cheeseburger with some ice cream for desert. My body fat percentage is just naturally really, really low.

In Fallout 3, Lincoln's Repeater + Sniper Perk + Concentrated Fire + Grim Reaper Perk + 100 Small Guns = non-stop killing machine.

Nuke or Bio Terror Attack in US "likely" by 2013
QUOTE (mr_genius @ Dec 2, 2008 -> 11:43 AM) The Republican party, in general, is more trusted on issues of national security (fair or not) by the general public. Bush was seen as someone who would get tough on terrorism. The Democrats (fair or not) have more of a reputation of being softer on terrorism. Also, after the attacks in 2001, there has not been an attack on US soil; if Obama is in office and terror attacks ressume he is going to catch the blame, just like the Republicans got the blame for the stock market crash. I agree with this, but I think whoever is President during the next attack, be it D or R, will catch a lot of blame from the other side for not preventing it.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Dec 1, 2008 -> 03:29 PM) Not really. After 5 days straight of technical rallying, this was bound to happen. I meant for me personally. I hadn't thought about the markets since early last week.

Official 2008-2009 College Football Thread
QUOTE (CrimsonWeltall @ Dec 1, 2008 -> 06:48 AM) The regular season is 100% meaningless unless various people and computers VOTE you into the championship game. College football - where you can win every game and not be a champion. Exactly. It's based way too much on preconceived notions of who the best teams are before a single game is played.

QUOTE (Shadows @ Nov 30, 2008 -> 08:56 PM) Really? They are down 10 at the half and were only winning 7-3 anyways.. this is hardly a collapse They went from likely up 14-3 with 5:00 to go in the half to down 10 at the half and looking completely outmatched. But it's still only 10 points with half a game to play.

I know AP is a freak but there's been some poor tackling by the Bears here as well. Little bit of momentum on their side since stopping the Bears at the goal line.

Plaxico Burress accidentally shoots himself in the leg
QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Nov 29, 2008 -> 10:46 AM) This is hilarious and sad at the same time. Why are you carrying a loaded gun Plax? It amazes me how stupid multimillion dollar athletes are. Just don't carry a gun, wow, is that so hard. Or at least keep the safety on.

Kennedy Assassination
QUOTE (PlaySumFnJurny @ Nov 25, 2008 -> 12:32 PM) I am a lot less inclined to believe in a conspiracy than I used to be, although my visit to Dealey Plaza a few years ago didn't have much of an effect on my opinion. Stone's JFK movie was interesting entertainment, but from everything I have read and seen, Jim Garrison (the Kevin Costner character)'s particular conspiracy theory has been completely debunked, and even amongst most die-hard conspiracy theorists, Garrison is regarded as somewhat of a nutjob. There are, however, two points made in that movie that are hard for me to ignore: 1) the Warren Commission's "magic bullet" theory (hilariously lampooned in "Seinfeld") is just plain difficult to swallow; and 2) the Zapruder film does seem to show JFK's head snapping "back and to the left," "back and to the left," "back and to the left." To accept Osawld as the lone gunman, one must not only buy into the "magic bullet" theory, but conclude that JFK's "back and to the left" head movement was some type of spasm. I understand that the latter is medically possible, but on film, it certainly does look like the result of a forward hit from the direction of the grassy knoll or triple underpass. On the other hand, that the assasination was some form of "coup" perpeutuated by our military inductrial complex, or a "revenge" hit by Castro and/or the mafia seems to require even more of a stretch. This might be a tad graphic, but the exit side of a bullet wound has a lot of projectile matter coming with it. Since momentum in conserved, something needs to go in the opposite direction to balance out the equation. In this case, it was JFK's head. This page has some more detailed explanations as well as watermelon examples. http://mcadams.posc.mu.edu/dealey.htm

Obama's Cabinet and Staff
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Nov 25, 2008 -> 11:53 AM) Interesting. So he did say there was some overpricing, but said there wouldn't likely be a dramatic correction. Guess he was wrong there. Greenspan has been wrong about an awful lot of things relating to this current mess.

Kennedy Assassination
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 25, 2008 -> 09:16 AM) Or know what a controled demolition of a 110 story building looks like At least the JFK conspiracy theories are a little more plausible. I remember NBC doing a pretty good documentary/ investigation of this 5 years ago. They came back with the conclusion that he acted on his own.
