One common push back on the idea of expanding universal free public education beyond k-12 was the claim that it was something favored by "elites"/college educated people. From that data it looks like decent-to-large majorities support it across every demographic slice except two--conservative republicans and old people who grew up when college was a tiny fraction of what it is now if not outright free like Cali used to be.

Tornadoes are weird. We happened to be in the area, so we drove down our old block yesterday. Our former house had it's crappy, 30 year old fence knocked down but otherwise looked fine. Half a block up, and several houses were missing half their roof, most of their siding, etc. and some very large, old oaks and maples were destroyed. Very clear east-west straight line through the neighborhood with serious damage, but if you went maybe four or five houses north/south of that line, you'd never know a storm came through.

Not super psyched for my wife to go teach in rooms full of under-12's and my kids to be back in daycare/preschool full time. Feels like it's just a matter of time at this point before they catch it since they won't be eligible to be vaccinated for at least a few more months. At least my wife's district reinstated mask requirements for everyone after the CDC changed course. I'll say I'm glad we squeezed a couple of road trips and my daughter's birthday party in in late June/early July before things ramped up again.

  12. Another classic Seinfeld bit reference: On another site I saw someone say they put a bunch of custom filters into their ad blocker (Ublock Origin) so that when they load NBCOlympics.com, it doesn't show any of the spoiler banners. Really just need to consider the events live 24/7 and live with most likely getting a spoiler.
  13. I think part of the deal NBC got when they paid for the broadcasting rights was they most popular events in the US being scheduled to fall during primetime in the US. Google loves to shove news headlines into my notifications with random results, and if you go to nbcolympics to watch coverage of some other random sport that won't be covered in primetime, you're likely to get spoiled
  14. Good lord that last 50 and even 25m by Finke in the 800m race, incredible to make up that gap with that little left
  15. No, not Phelps. He doesn't start screaming every time there's a somewhat close race. There's the main play-by-play guy, Phelps who speaks sometimes in a clear baritone voice, and then the annoying guy who starts screaming all the time. e: it's Rowdy Gaines
  16. Whoever the color guy is on the swimming broadcast who starts screaming on the last 50 of every race needs to go
  17. Salary cap space thing I think
  18. Love 2 watch winning baseball
