  1. Pres Trump says Democrats not applauding at his #SOTU is 'unamerican,' then says "Someone said 'treasonous,' eh, why not? Can we call that treason? Well, why not?"
  2. QUOTE (bmags @ Feb 5, 2018 -> 01:57 PM) This is a day I wish Yellen was still Fed Chair (also her first day not there) Actually managed to hit the Fed's dual mandate and still kicked out after one term. e: jesus another 150 points in the couple of minutes since my first post
  3. Yikes, another 600+ point drop. Bitcoin's also crashing back to earth.
  4. SCOTUS declined to hear the case, thankfully. So if the GOP state senators keep refusing to follow court orders, what happens next? Any way for the state SC to actually force a new map in before the elections?
  5. QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Feb 5, 2018 -> 12:15 PM) Why Did This Congressman Give A Holocaust Denier A State Of The Union Ticket? Yeah, definitely not a party that would support anything like that. must just be another weird outlier Trump ambassador nominee promoted fringe conspiracy theories on Twitter I mean that's just a couple of GOP Senate candidate Lou Barletta did interview in 2006 with Holocaust-denying publication but it's just an interview from one "hopeful" and not someone with a big public profile who's loved and endorsed by the leader of the GOP who received a nakedly political Presidential pardon?? Arizona Senate candidate Joe Arpaio 'unaware' he granted interview to anti-Semitic publication well okay you're always going to get a few insane conspiracy racists in any administration, right? but that's all there .... Trump nominee for U.N. migration post called Muslims violent, Christians top priority yeah but that's just.. Trump judicial nominee defended ‘first KKK’ in online arguments: report okay okay okay so there are a few... Another Trump appointee resigns after racist comments come to light okay okay a couple of ambassadors but no one New US ambassador to Netherlands regularly made unsubstantiated 'no-go zones' claims, speculated 15% of Muslims could be jihadists at least it's not like the leader of the party and the President of the United States launched his political career with racist birtherism and openly defends white supremacists who murdered a protester after chanting literal Nazi slogans at their free speech white supremacist rally! Oh, right. So weird how the GOP in general and this administration in particular keeps attracting racist conspiracy mongers from the top on down
  6. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Feb 4, 2018 -> 06:36 PM) This Republican also claims to be the former head of the American Nazi Party. I wonder how many thousands of my 3rd district neighbors are going to vote for the literal Nazi
  7. Anthem is now requiring policy holders in several states to diagnose themselves to determine the "most appropriate" health care provider in an immediate care scenario, and if you guess wrong, you're stuck paying the bill. American health care is such a disaster. An ER visit, a $12,000 bill — and a health insurer that wouldn’t pay
  8. QUOTE (bmags @ Feb 5, 2018 -> 09:00 AM) I was really glad Pederson coached that so aggressively and won. He needed every one of those extra points other coaches would have lost for the sake of "Staying in the game". Against a team like the patriots you have to maximize your scoring drives and try to do whatever possible to get ahead of their last drive. So much of the armchair coaching on important plays is result plays. Pass falls incomplete? "Shoulda run"! Run stopped short. "Shoulda passed!". But nothing more than "take the points!" and field position homers scream if a sound decision to go for it ends up not coming through. Had he called that aggressively and lost each one, woulda been real bad for a while. Yeah, he knew he had to take big risks if he was going to fend off New England and come out on top. Luckily they all pretty much worked out, but they Eagles weren't going to win playing conservatively. I dunno if I'd even call that half time a "B". It seemed really bland and unmemorable. The Dodge/MLK commercial was really cringe-worthy. Here's that commercial recut with what MLK actually thought about advertising.

  10. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Feb 4, 2018 -> 10:11 PM) Tonight's news report: "Sunday talk shows filled with Democrats and Republicans discussing a controversial memo". Republicans say the public has a right to know if the FBI process was corrupt, Democrats say the memo is an unfair attack on the FBI. Then a summary of how the memo suggests that the Dems helped pay for the Steele Dossier and that was used as evidence for the surveillance and a comment by the President about how it's unfair - with no mention of any other evidence that the guy was a russian agent, no mention of the fact that they disclosed that it was paid for in part by political parties, no mention of the fact that they had repeated warrants for him even without the dossier. Then an appearance by Trey Gowdy saying that the use of opposition research in a FISA application was "Somewhat unprecedented" - WTF that actually means God only knows, because either there's a precedent or not. Then a "the Democrats want their memo released too" both sides. Without the center content, it comes off as the memo release being fair and yes the FBI is totally corrupt in the report. WGN and NPR reporting were essentially the same as that today, too. Right wing propagandists are experts at exploiting our media's neverending desire to cover everything through a lens of "both sides." The memo was full of outright lies and self-contradictions, but you'd never know it from a majority of the reporting. e:
  11. Very disappointed there was no dick in a box medley
  12. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Feb 4, 2018 -> 12:14 PM) Can someone explain to me what the point of releasing this memo was? Outside of FOX News, which thinks this is the biggest story since Watergate, not one single news source thinks this helps the GOP in anyway. In fact, it seems to hurt them more than anything. What am I missing? To poison the well. The true believers will always buy whatever nonsense Nunes and Trump shovel out without a second thought, so partially it's red meat for them. Gotta keep the conservative persecution complex going. But it's also to get the media reporting "Republicans allege misconduct etc etc etc" "Trump claims vindication" Sure if you read the full story or listen to the full report you might get a clear picture of how bs the whole thing is, but if you're skimming headlines you're going to get an impression that hey maybe this was politically motivated. Republicans are experts at exploiting the media's love for "both sides" reporting where they just repeat a he said/he said story without bothering to examine the claims or call them bs from the start.

  14. The phantom memo Attack of the memos Revenge of the memo A new memo The memo strikes back Return of the memo The memo awakens The last memo Nyt, wapo, and WSJ all reporting that the fisa court was in fact informed of the potential political bias behind some of the evidence in the fisa application, undercutting a major complaint in the memo. Never. Believe. Devin. Nunes.
  15. Nunes admitting he's never even bothered to read the fisa application he's making all these allegations about is the best part.
  16. An Updated Lead-Crime Roundup for 2018 Nothing as complex as "national crime rates" is going to be monocausal, but man spraying lead all over the place for years was such a stupid idea.
  17. If you think this memo was releasing info on corruption within the FBI I am not sure we're living in the same world
  18. NYT has an annotated copy of the memo up going over various claims. It points out the numerous ways in which Nunes' memo lies, is misleading, or leaves out important information. https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2018/02...s&smtyp=cur
  19. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Feb 2, 2018 -> 11:52 AM) The most damaging allegation would appear to be that McCabe allegedly said that, without the information from Steele, a FISA warrant would not have been sought. I'm struggling to see exactly why the right wing media/social media world keeps hyping that as WORSE THAN WATERGATE. The whole investigation wasn't even really made public until after the election. Meanwhile, the FBI's investigation into the other candidate herself was a center point of the campaign for over a year, including a damaging and potentially election-changing statement from the FBI shortly before the election. e: *after said adviser had left the campaign I will have a hearty lmao if this turns out to just be (another) straight up lie from Nunes https://twitter.com/jimsciutto/status/959499923346677762
  20. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Feb 2, 2018 -> 12:22 PM) That judge is full out auditioning for a Judge Judy type TV show. When a judge wishes that a defendant be raped like she did last week, that might be crossing the line, no matter how awful Nasser was. Yeah that part was...really bad. Berating him for being awful is fine, but "prison rape as punishment" is pretty disgusting. Speaking of gross statements: https://t.co/UZWtNL83F5
  21. The Deep State Democrats' plan to initiate an investigation of a former campaign aide a couple of weeks before the election and to tell no one about it doesn't seem like the best of plans. Of course, the whole point of a Deep State Propaganda Plot is lost if you KEEP IT A SECRET! Why didn't you tell the world, eh?

  23. Judge said "no way" she'll punish him
  24. That they first leaked a few details of this to State Media Fox News tells you everything you need to know about the legitimacy of the allegations and the entire purpose of this exercise. The best part about the whole DEMOCRATIC-FUNDED DOSSIER!!! is that it started out with the conservative rag Washington Free Beacon in conjunction with the Cruz campaign. The memo very deliberately does not include the original funding sources.
