There was just a quinnipiac poll on general immigration. Something like 54% the same and then split the rest between increasing immigration and the white nationalist position.
-
It's not evenly split. Huge majorities want to protect dreamers. A majority wants immigration to stay the same, 1/4 wants to increase and a 1/4 wants to decrease. As far as losing Hispanic voters, why do you think Republicans are working at every level to delegitimize democratic institutions and outcomes? They get far fewer votes and still get solid majorities, and they suppress the vote on top of that.
-
There's no reason at all to reduce legal immigration. We shouldn't make the white nationalist position the starting point for discussions.

President is illiterate Breaking with tradition, Trump skips president’s written intelligence report and relies on oral briefings https://www.washingtonpost.com/amphtml/poli...impression=true

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Feb 9, 2018 -> 08:54 AM) We’ve essentially added another $3 trillion to the deficit...giving the military far more than even they asked for (when they can’t even keep track of $500 million) despite having an economy that was finally humming along on its own without any government intervention. Not to mention the increased costs of issuing more and more debt/bonds in the future, due to overheating that wasn’t called for except in Trump’s imagination. Conservatives In Name Only. Conservatives have never actually cared about the deficit beyond bad faith bs so this is perfectly in line with conservatism

Democrats cave again with zero concessions on immigration. Mass deportations will start next month.

They're going to purge as many immigrants, documented or not, as they can.

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Feb 6, 2018 -> 12:43 PM) If an institution can't be co-opted to strengthen the GOP, it's attacked and delegitimized until it either can be used to support or is rendered irrelevant. Don't worry, though, authoritarianism could never take over in the US. GOP bid for control in Nevada raises fear of endless recalls

ICE is busy doing some truly monstrous stuff. 'Pillar of the community' deported from US after 39 years to a land he barely knows This successful businessman and his US citizen wife were willing to self-deport to stay together: sold their house, went to airport. ICE told them to go home. A week later they scooped him up and put him on a plane with no chance to say goodbye to his family. I sure feel safer now. They're also subpoenaing state Departments of Labor for records to help track down and deport as many people as possible.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Feb 8, 2018 -> 10:07 AM) I... assume this is a joke about Trump or something? I think I missed the reference. A bunch of pictures were floating around a week ago of Tom Brady kissing his son on the lips.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Feb 8, 2018 -> 10:20 AM) I think I've finally come to a realization about the policy Greg really does care about. It permeates almost every post he makes back here, every thread he makes back here. It sums up why he doesn't care about any policy that you think he should care about. What he really cares about is that he's better. His way is the right way and you must respect that in all things. A while ago, I saw someone online who said that every time you see someone complaining about "PC", replace the phrase "PC" with "Treating people who aren't like you with respect" and you'll see their true motive. That's Greg's #1 issue, it is his overriding, driving force. People who are different from him do not deserve respect under any circumstances, but because he is a white, cis, hetero, male, he deserves it and he demands it. Start with this thread. Here's some of his words. "Remember if you have them, somebody may be offended." - an entire thread about how he's totally offended that someone else might take offense. His offense is righteous, the way things were done for him is correct and it should never be considered that other people might need to be treated as human also. "Anybody who has been to a Father-Daughter dance realizes this is special and there's nothing wrong with it." - and the people who don't belong in that single category, they don't deserve to participate. They should have known better than to be the wrong gender. Or to not have 2 parents. You can do this for hours. Take the people that Greg finds to like politically - Rush Limbaugh, Trump/Trump Jr, Joe Biden, Bernie Sanders, Glenn Beck, Jesse Ventura. You've got people who broke the law and were drug addicts, you've got people with credible allegations of sexual assault, you've got racists, you've got people who are just plain jerks. But what do they have in common? They are white males who have treated people who aren't like that with the total lack of respect they deserve. A thread comes up about a black woman who people are talking about running for office? "How well does she know policy!?" that same day, he assumes that Donald Trump understands policy while he's tweeting about something he saw on Fox News and in the process he undermines his own administration's policy, because he doesn't understand it. Hillary Clinton? That woman is corrupt and needs put in her place. Women shouldn't be trusted. Scared that Donald Trump might accidentally get Honolulu vaporized? Sure but at least he's not a woman. Hurricane response? Sure Puerto Rico isn't in good shape but the response to FLorida and Texas was fine so it deserves praise. The people who are going to schools without electricity don't really count. OMG the blacks are rioting? STOP THEM! OMG the Eagles fans are rioting? I saw nothing. Up and down the list that's his one, singular driving force. His life experiences are the right ones. It doesn't matter if a person is better educated, it doesn't matter the kind of case they'll make for why their life experiences should be treated as equal to his. His are superior, and to say that anyone else deserves that same respect is "PC" and should be shunned. He has to be superior at all times because of who he is. It's his birthright. So next time he does this, play this game. Replace the term "PC" with "Treating people who aren't like you with respect". You might have to edit the grammar a little bit to make the sentence fit, but it will work every time. This entire thread is about how he deserves the right to disrespect anyone who has a different family makeup than him or a different gender than him. His gender and family structure is the right one, it deserves respect, it is PC to treat any other human being with respect just because they're human, and that's the worst thing you can possibly do because his way being the right one is his birthright. from greg's 2012 thread about this exact same topic QUOTE (lostfan @ Sep 20, 2012 -> 06:10 PM) "I really hate political correctness" generally translates to "I really wish there weren't such consequences for being an unapologetic asshole." I think I'd respect people's complaints about it more if they just said that instead.

The White House was informed of the allegations of multiple spousal abuse as far back as November. Kelly promoted Porter after learning of this. For some reason I'm reminded of the time Kelly dragged his dead son's legacy through the mud to defend Trump's call with that gold star widow. Truly nostalgic for the way women were treated when he was growing up, I guess.

Black Lung Study Finds Biggest Cluster Ever Of Fatal Coal Miners' Disease It's being driven largely by increasingly mechanized coal mining that is going after smaller and smaller seams, meaning that a whole lot more non-coal rock gets ground up, and that contains a bunch of silica. At the same time, the Trump Administration is having a former coal executive "review" black lung regulations that were put in place under Obama with the explicitly stated goal of deregulation.

More conspiracy peddling from Republicans in order to muddy the waters on FBI/Trump. This time, Sen. Johnson put out a highly misleading "report" on additional texts between agents Strzok and Page. He and other Republicans spent the day spinning up their base about a text about how "Obama wants to know everything we're doing," claiming or implying that it was about the Clinton email server investigation. Of course, a quick review of the timeline would have revealed that this claim made no sense, and now the WSJ is reporting that the text was about the FBI's investigation into Russian interference in the election. https://www.wsj.com/articles/texts-from-201...ssia-1518036629 You'd think these guys wouldn't have to lie constantly if they actually had anything legitimate to claim, but they know their base will eat it up anyway and it'll throw enough mud on the whole thing.

It's amazing how many people who can't pass FBI background checks are working in this White House. This guy would have been handling classified documents, too. Remember how concerned everyone was for about 15 months about the handling of classified information? Just yesterday the White House was praising Porter, and Kelly personally asked him to stay on. The photos his first wife provided to the FBI are awful. https://theintercept.com/2018/02/07/rob-por...use-trump-aide/ He knew full well of the multiple accusations of beating his wives when he made these comments. Orrin Hatch also attacked people reporting on this story yesterday and came to Porter's defense.

QUOTE (Quin @ Feb 7, 2018 -> 12:02 PM) Well, I'm giving Pelosi props. Extremely disappointed in the Senate. If McCain Coons gets a vote in the Senate that seems like a pretty decent if limited bill.
