Esteban Loaiza arrested (Drug Kingpin?)

Featured Replies

Per Jeff Passan on Twitter

This is a new one: Esteban Loaiza, drug kingpin.

The second-winningest pitcher from Mexico in MLB history was arrested Friday with 20 kilos of heroin or cocaine, according to San Diego police records. He'll be in court Wednesday to face felony drug charges. Details are in pics.

He was just at Sox Fest a few weeks ago.

His charges are detailed in the photos.

You can mail it to the prison. He could probably use a pen pal

Yeah really. Make sure there isn't any nose candy on it. lol. We should all refer to Loaiza by his new nickname, "Twenty Keys"

I hear he can get you the best Cuban stuff

Yikes. Shades of Sam Hurd right there. As a fellow (half) Mexican, this is very disappointing to hear.

That's really sad. He could have made such a big impact and this is what he decided to do. Really disappointing.

There had been rumors (mexican tabloids and such) that he's been around this stuff his whole career so who knows.

This is really disappointing.

Is he really a kingpin or is he more of a mule?

Kingpins don't get caught red handed. They are insulated.

Kinda random but it's a really strange coincidence that Roy Halladay, who he lost the Cy Young to, died in a plane crash as did his wife who he was in the process of divorcing, the singer Jenni Rivera.

That...is weird.

Baseball players have to be a great market to sell cocaine. Lots of money. Lots of long road trips and hours. Lots of alcohol and partying. Doesn't stay in your system long. Somebody has to get all these players their coke.

Didn't Halladay have a substance in his system when he died too? if I'm not mistaken coke?

Millionaires with disposable income can get into "investment" opportunities with the cartels.

Who knows how deep some ex-players could be in these things.

Crazy. Good career wasted with horrible decisions.

yea this could be the start of a great book. I wonder if Esteban will sing. If he's handling that much "product" directly he's pretty deep in but not deep enough (or smart enough) to only be "the bank".

I believe street price for 44 pounds would be roughly three quarters of a million bucks. Crazy s***... what a moron. Thanks for Jose Contreras.

Jenni Rivera died in 2012. Brandy Halladay was his wife.

I look forward to the rosin bags being tested for their integrity all season long.
