  1. Kansas senate won't push this bill forward, at least in its current form. http://www.kansas.com/2014/02/16/3293904/k...-likely-to.html
  2. QUOTE (farmteam @ Feb 18, 2014 -> 08:07 AM) I assume that's someone who is under 18? Otherwise...that's just par for the course for bottom-of-the-page ads. Yes, it's the 15 year old Russian figure skater.
  3. Saw this at the bottom of an unrelated story. Way to be a creepy perv, CBS.
  4. We had better weather at 12,000 feet in the god damned rockies than we do in Chicago. This is miserable.
  5. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Feb 17, 2014 -> 04:23 PM) The only thing I can think of is that the one who died was the one who had the shotgun, or appeared to have the shotgun, so it was arguable that the self defense theory applied. But the other three were sort of out of the picture and were shot just because they also happened to be in the car. That's essentially what one of the questions the jury asked of the judge implied they were thinking.
  6. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Feb 16, 2014 -> 08:53 PM) The interview with Bode Miller was f***ing awful, how many times can you ask about his dead brother? Give the guy a break, you need to learn how to walk away. That's what they wanted. They want tears. It was pretty disgusting the way she kept pushing.
  7. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Feb 16, 2014 -> 09:35 PM) I can't believe the snowboard cross chick crashed with such a big lead, brutal. Bode Miller is quite the fertile ladies man, multiple kids from multiple relationships. He pulled a bunch of crap with the youngest one too.
  8. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Feb 14, 2014 -> 11:09 AM) Or not. http://deadspin.com/the-worst-stuff-from-t...dati-1522846626 What a piece of garbage.
  9. He was convicted of multiple counts of second degree attempted murder and will be retried for the first degree count
  10. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Feb 14, 2014 -> 09:49 AM) It should be noted, businesses can refuse customers, but that right is not without limits. As I understand it, they cannot exclude customers of a protected group for that reason specifically. Part of the puzzle here is, I am not sure gays are a "protected group" across states or jurisdictions. Someone more knowledgeable can speak to that. The civil rights act contains the public accommodations provision and the landmark case is heart of Atlanta motel. But it's all about explicitly defined protected classes, and sexual orientation isn't one of them federally. Some states do have that protection, though.
  11. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Feb 13, 2014 -> 09:30 PM) Ski slopestyle is awesome. So much better than snowboarding surprisingly Agreed
  12. QUOTE (Harry Chappas @ Feb 13, 2014 -> 11:28 PM) Early on they were saying how awesome they are. Yah it was all "wow developed by Lockheed Martin!"
  13. I don't see where the EEOC has jurisdiction to cover "discrimination" of a job requiring a certain level of education/training/certification etc. edit: maybe under this?
  14. Surely you could cite something backing up the idea that it's so easy to prove employment discrimination claims that companies routinely either just settle or give the job to the obviously less qualified person, where the obviously less qualified person is obviously the minority. The article is from 2004, anyway. Do we have some reason to expect a big spike in employment discrimination suits and their success rate since then? And yes, the article explicitly and repeatedly talks about lawsuit vs. actually-going-to-trial rates over time. It's all over the entire article so I'm not sure how you could miss it.
  15. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Feb 13, 2014 -> 03:47 PM) How hard is it to get through your f***ing thick skull that I am talking about a specific situation and not generalzing? Just f***ing go away if you won't engage me on my actual claims. This looks pretty generalized to me! QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Feb 13, 2014 -> 02:44 PM) I do want to point out that the laws that protect classes that have historically been discriminated against, have been abused to the point that people outside those classes often get screwed.
  16. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Feb 13, 2014 -> 03:45 PM) Yes, because all but the absolutely most laughable cases get settled out of court. So there is not a big win rate if it gets to court. This is literally the introductory paragraph How do you know that you've been fired or passed over three times because some obviously less-qualified racial minority threatened to sue?
  17. Anti-discrimination laws: just another form of welfare entitlements! Never mind that unemployment across the educational spectrum is higher, businesses always just give the job to that minority who's obviously going to just sue them if they don't.
  18. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Feb 13, 2014 -> 03:37 PM) The "Market" would correct this because in the "Market" they wouldn't be allowed to file a complaint in the first place. But how would The Market correct all of the instances of racial minority candidates being passed up for being racial minorities? Broad employment, income etc. data support this pretty damn well, and that's in a market where we actually have EEO protections. Well, this legal scholarship article I googled up paints a very, very different picture of how easy it is to prove employment discrimination. http://scholarship.law.cornell.edu/cgi/vie...ext=lsrp_papers
  19. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Feb 13, 2014 -> 03:31 PM) I'm not talking about white people as a group. I'm talking about me. I've been a victim of reverse discrimination, because minorities have an incredibly low burden of proof to prove that they have been discriminated against, Do you have any sort of citation for that? My understanding is that discrimination lawsuits are actually pretty damn hard to win. Don't worry, jenks has assured me that The Market will correct this discrimination! But, I wonder, how does your claim that minorities get all the promotions square with actual data on income, hiring, promotions, etc. more broadly? As far as I can tell, minorities are still heavily underrepresented as you move up the career and income ladders. If the burden of proof really is so low and nobody wants to fight lawsuits (there's always lawsuits?), wouldn't we see a lot more minorities actually getting promotions?
  20. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Feb 13, 2014 -> 03:28 PM) If you were a gay white man he would have supported you. Wait I thought you were okay with discrimination? Why should you care if HH was allegedly fired/passed over because someone in a protected class threatened a lawsuit? The Market will correct this.
  21. I'm ridiculing the idea that white people have it tough these days and are the real victims of racial discrimination because various unnamed "laws that protect classes that have historically been discriminated against have been abused."
  22. Man white people just have it so tough these days. I bet if you looked at employment, income and wealth statistics or numerous studies on hiring practices, you'd find evidence of systemic anti-white racism.

    2014 TV thread

There was a pretty good discussion about Lost in last year's thread
  24. That's basically a "whites are the real victim of racial discrimination these days" argument, which is hilarious for terrible reasons.
