    QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Feb 1, 2013 -> 04:01 PM) lol You have over 50% support to attack Iran just over building nuclear weapons. Imagine if the question was: "Do you support or oppose the United States taking military action against Iran if there is evidence that Iran has attacked Israel?" Im guessing you are somewhere at 70-80% which is almost unimaginably high. (edit) To conclude, the numbers already support my position that the majority are fine attacking Iran, let alone if Iran does something aggressive. Well, you said "liberals" originally, not "majority of the people."

    QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Feb 1, 2013 -> 04:16 PM) Isolationism has worked so well in the past. Its never resulted in the US having to expend more money and man power than if the US had just gotten involved to start. Oh irony, now it is the "liberals" who are the isolationists and it is the "conservatives" who are not. I just dont understand how anyone who claims to be a liberal, can also want isolationism. Those are mutually exclusive. If you truly care about the plight of people, then you would want someone to interfere on behalf of the weak. Regardless of the cost to yourself. This is like welfare or universal health care, which are generally considered a liberal policies. yo, Iran is full of people I've got no beef with

    hard to compare the general attitudes in 1990-1991 to 2013 what with us still winding down the two longest wars in our history right next door to Iran. edit: you're still going to have majority support but there's a sizable number of people that don't want war with Iran: http://www.pollingreport.com/iran.htm

    yeah I'm not down with that, I wouldn't imagine that much of the liberal/left would be either. Intervention in cases like Libya, Mali or Syria are somewhat complex and you'll find a wide range of views on the left over the merits, but that's a bit different from direct war with Iran.

  8. At the current rate, we'll reach full employment again in about 2021, 14 years after the start of the recession.
  9. Huh. That's surprising.
  10. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Feb 1, 2013 -> 09:58 AM) Jesus, go Ravens.
  11. The Texas GOP is floating a plan to use state funds to support companies that violate the federal health insurance contraception requirement. http://www.salon.com/2013/01/31/texas_gop_...eption_mandate/
  12. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Feb 1, 2013 -> 09:42 AM) Im pretty sure that was sarcasm. Chicago fans are a very pessimistic bunch Yeah, it seems like a majority on this site are always waiting for the other shoe to drop, even when things are going well for any given team. Rose love is the exception, though.
  13. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jan 31, 2013 -> 06:50 PM) They would be discussing the game. Not repeating "THE 49ERS WILL WIN THE SUPERBOWL. COLIN KAEPERNICK WILL BE MVP." We had a superbowl thread on this forum within the last 10 years. I remember what it was like. SoxTalk is known for its unbridled optimism in all things Chicago sports
  14. QUOTE (Brian @ Jan 31, 2013 -> 04:29 PM) Is that why the rates are so low? Originally, yeah. They were like USAA in that you had to be a government employee, who had lower accident risks than the general population pool.

    yeah, airspace violations aren't exactly analogous to attacks, even if they are still hostile actions.

  19. QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Jan 31, 2013 -> 11:22 AM) I really dislike both of these teams. I hope they both lose.
  20. Poll shows a double standard on religious liberty IIRC it was a poll by the Barna Group that I posted several months ago that found that an increasing number of young people are leaving religion and that one of the biggest motivators are various churches' treatment of gays and lesbians. edit: this was the post QUOTE (StrangeSox @ May 11, 2012 -> 07:22 AM) So this could go in this thread or the baby pills thread I guess, but it's a post on a recent survey by the Barna Group, a pro-Christian research firm: The face of Christianity among American youth is bigotry.
  21. I have it but I've never used it. One of my friends has been a claims adjuster there for years.

    World War Z was much better as an audiobook--it was told in an oral history style with a full cast of voice actors.
  23. QUOTE (Jake @ Jan 30, 2013 -> 11:30 AM) Tennessee's "Don't Say Gay" bill now includes a provision that requires parents of gay children to notify the school that their child is gay. Headscratcher. Actually other way around! This would require school staff to effectively "out" the student to their family, which could be a traumatic experience.
  24. Hilary Clinton literally murdered the ambassador, that is why she held back SEAL Team Six who was only minutes away, she had to destroy the evidence of her involvement.
