  1. I've really been enjoying Fallout: New Vegas lately. I'm way behind on my list of games I want to play.
  2. ezra klein on Ryan's "not-very-truthful speech" emphasis mine. maybe this is what will finally wake the media as a whole up from their dumb "he said, she said, both sides!" insistence on "balance" over objectivity.
  3. Related to the good news out of Texas, an Ohio judge has issued a temporary injunction allowing early voting for all Ohio citizens in the three days prior to the election.
  4. Did the FDIC bail you out, too, after you threatened to raid the corporate coffers to pay you and your fellow executives millions in bonuses before going back to your old job and luxurious salary?
  5. The crowd was also riled up about Obama not closing gitmo and not pulling the troops out of Afghanistan tomorrow, so I don't really think it mattered what he said.
  6. Don't extravagantly increase their workload and refuse to pay them for it. That should be unacceptable for every citizen. Unfortunately, labor rights and representation have been under assault for decades and most Americans simply have to take the s*** served up by owners and management.
  7. They should not f*** off, they should be compensated for increased workload. Sans union organization, though, they probably would have to f*** off and take the abuse from management like most workers do.
  8. Sean Hannity paid $300,000 for this one! He's got a lot of Kinkade in his style.
  9. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Aug 30, 2012 -> 03:24 PM) For the politicos on here is this article fairly factual? http://www.rollingstone.com/politics/news/...romney-20120829 The NY Mag has an article on this article here: http://nymag.com/daily/intel/2012/08/did-m...ork+Magazine%29 RS's description of what happened seems accurate, but it's a stretch to say they were bailed out by the taxpayers directly. Still seems like the main thrust of the article is fair and accurate.
  10. Another McNaughton Instant Classic! If you go to the website, you can mouse over all the elements and get his explanation for them. Whoever said "a picture is worth a thousand words" is clearly a moron as every work of art should come complete with detailed explanations of its meanings.
  11. Rahm Emmanuel is a traitor to the cause and will be dealt with in due time. Seriously though he's a Democrat through-and-through but he barely qualifies as a liberal. Which I guess makes him perfect to the Democratic party. They don't care about labor either, at least as long as they still get political organizing support from them while doing absolutely nothing for labor.
  12. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Aug 31, 2012 -> 09:44 AM) Who? Did anyone in this thread start by saying teachers suck and need to shut up? Or did a teacher b**** about their pay first? That's the way this argument always starts. I wasn't talking only about this thread. How often have state Republicans attacked teachers and teachers unions lately? There have been several recall elections in Wisconsin over this.
  13. They shouldn't stop their b****ing because plenty in this country constantly attack teachers and their hard-fought wages and benefits.
  14. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Aug 31, 2012 -> 08:43 AM) He was hitting on points that were the direct opposite of Romney's policies. Maybe Ryan got in his ear before the speech and told him his views? It was puzzling at best. The whole bailout thing is laughable to me. You literally have a guy whose company apparently took a bailout standing behind you. He also criticized him for not closing down Gitmo? And praised him for opposing Iraq? At the Republican National Convention? WTF is going on And people were applauding at the line about bringing home the troops for Afghanistan tomorrow morning. My mind has been blown. edit: and criticizing politicians and how they come around begging for votes. At the convention where they're nominating their presidential candidate. I cannot make sense of one part of this speech. lol some good tweets here: Jamelle Bouie @jbouie This is a perfect representation of the campaign: an old white man arguing with an imaginary Barack Obama. 15. Texas' Voter ID law was blocked, as were their redistricting plans (that's four decades in a row of running afoul of the Voting Rights Act!). One notable fact is that 81 of Texas' 254 counties do not have facilities that issue the requisite ID's. Many people would have to travel over 100 miles to obtain their ID's, and Texas also refused to waive the document fees that may be necessary to procure the "free" ID.
  16. The Afghanistan part was just baffling. Not as baffling as lecturing an empty chair, but still baffling. He seems to think that Obama time-traveled to 2001 as President and decided to invade Afghanistan. And he thinks Romney wants to bring the troops home "tomorrow morning" instead of at some pre-determined date in the future. Didn't anyone vet this speech to see if it made any god damned sense at all?
  17. People that are terrible at things often think they're doing a good job.
  18. I don't think there's anything more annoying than this Bootstraps Mitt myth they've been trying to pull together. Dude was born on third base if not already at home plate. Stop insulting people who have actually struggled in life by trying to pretend that you went through some struggles, too, because you had to sell some stock to make your way through college.
  19. QUOTE (mr_genius @ Aug 30, 2012 -> 10:38 PM) i really am starting to dislike Romney. he's starting to remind me of that idiot jon huntsman. i forgot about your intense huntsman loathing
  20. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Aug 30, 2012 -> 09:45 PM) This snippet from Andrew Sullivan's live blogging of the convention made me laugh: That speech was bizarre. Romney is a gear leader because one time this Olympian carried a 9/11 flag?
  21. A $30,000 dress. More than a lot of families live on for an entire year. And she's avoiding taxes on it. ARhahrhhggg.
  22. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Aug 30, 2012 -> 04:37 PM) I like your wife already. She does, however, endlessly rub her time off in my face
  23. ugh indeed. But I understand, Portman would be struggling if she had to pay taxes on the $30,000 dress she was gifted. Our society is so dumb sometimes.
  24. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Aug 30, 2012 -> 04:24 PM) OMG 10 hour days noooooooo. Give me a break. My entire family is teachers, and I see how much they "work" over summers, and how much they b**** if they put in an extra few hours of prep. My wife busts her ass during the year because that's just in her nature, but other teachers and their whining typically piss her off.
  25. My parents' friends delayed HS graduation as long as possible for that reason.
