The second season seems to be diverging a bit more. They pushed one of the best scenes in the series from book 3 up into the latest episode and changed it (how the Tickler dies). It was a good scene in the show but so much more awesome in the book.

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Apr 27, 2012 -> 12:00 PM) A Good Cartoon--Re-imagining right-wing cartoons There's more, these are hilarious. lol This civic-minded gentleman is making sure that even though these Americans will be traveling in Mexico during election time, they will still be able to participate in American democracy. A good and not at all racist cartoon.

QUOTE (greg775 @ May 1, 2012 -> 04:32 PM) You really think the guy should have been suspended or fired for ill advised twitter humor? I suspect sincerity behind his "jokes." -
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 1, 2012 -> 04:25 PM) You in good enough shape to do Half Dome? Nope! Plus passes are probably sold out by now.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 1, 2012 -> 07:17 AM) When did she apply? I think "Just before the summer" (aka right now) is their busiest time. Mine took about 8 weeks when I first got it, barely got it in enough time to make the trip. A month ago. When I got mine a few years back it was similar timelines.

QUOTE (bigruss22 @ May 1, 2012 -> 02:18 PM) So, just finished the third GOT book, do I read the 4th or is it really that bad and I should just find a synopsis and go on to the 5th? It's not bad, just not a good as three. Plus people that read them a they came out were mad that they had to wait a decade for some characters' stories to continue.

Definitely not treating guns as toys:
-
QUOTE (God Loves The Infantry @ Apr 30, 2012 -> 08:47 PM) Putting a scope on your rifle doesn't make it a toy. Buying a tactical light doesn't mean you think guns are toys. Having a serious interest in tactical shooting, as many military/police types do for obvious reasons, doesn't mean you don't respect your weapons. Have you ever even met a serious shooter? And I'm not talking about the guy who lives in a rough neighborhood and owns a .380 for protection. I'm talking about the kind of guy who shoots every weekend and has a bunch of "SF wannabe" s***. Do you really think that is the kind of guy who thinks guns are toys? I'm telling you, I know many of those types. I'm ONE of those types. And we are the farthest thing you can be from thinking guns are just some cool looking toys that make you a badass. No s***, I think you got your ridiculous stereotypes of gun owners from a movie. If someone asked me what makes a person a tool, I'd say making haughty statements about things you know nothing about and have no experience dealing with. Keep that in mind. Yes, I have met serious shooters. I work with several, including ex-SF. Some gun nuts treat their guys like toys. Some gun nuts =! all gun owners.

QUOTE (God Loves The Infantry @ Apr 30, 2012 -> 06:37 PM) You don't know dick about guns. Shut up. Convincing argument.

QUOTE (Tex @ Apr 30, 2012 -> 03:13 PM) People add stuff to their cars and don't believe they are NASCAR wannabees. People add stuff to their bikes without thinking they are Lance Armstrong. Yes, but those things are essentially being treated as toys.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 30, 2012 -> 03:41 PM) Remember, passport is good for like 15 years, so if 8 years from now you decide to head somewhere international, then you'd have to still get the more expensive version if you just opted for the card. It is good for ten.
-
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 30, 2012 -> 03:31 PM) How soon do you need them? Costs are directly related to how long you can wait. Basically, get a couple of passport photos taken at a local drug store or someplace similar, it's a normal service they'll offer for about $8 a set, then take those photos and the appropriate documents (usually compelted passport application forms, Social Security, Photo ID, and birth certificate) to an appropriate passport window (there is usually one at a post office if it's big enough, but go to the USPS's website and check for information on passports to make sure). Then there will be a cost per passport. I believe if you have a long wait it's about $100 per passport currently, but you can expedite it to a couple weeks for a larger fee. My wife just got her passport in under two weeks for the normal fee.

QUOTE (iamshack @ Apr 30, 2012 -> 04:28 PM) Find the sentence where I claimed it was... I will compare him to others in his line of work: who else in his line of work makes sexist tweets like this? Why would his position as a sports colomist make him any different from another ST employee? -

QUOTE (iamshack @ Apr 30, 2012 -> 04:23 PM) See, I am of the opinion that you guys are being a bit harsh on Greg here. Yes, almost everyone sees the need to keep this sort of thing out of the workplace...but let's not all deny the fact that the reason it does leach into the "inappropriate" areas so often is because it is so prevalent in every day culture. Oftentimes, it's the very guy that fires Joe Cowley that laughs at the joke Joe made while out on the golf course with his colleagues. I understand the need for the laws, but I always find the feigned outrage a bit disingenuous. I'd like for sexism to be kept out of society, not just "the workplace." But not giving someone a platform to broadcast those remarks is a good start! There is no law at play here. -

QUOTE (iamshack @ Apr 30, 2012 -> 04:18 PM) One thing you guys have to keep in mind though, is that his job isn't as an accountant or a trader or a auditor or a marketer. His job is to entertain people via published commentary on sports. Apparently he also is given free reign to be a bit of a "personality" and comments on any number of life experiences via his Twitter account, which, and there is no escaping this, bears the acronym of his employer (CST). While that doesn't give him carte blanche to just go about insulting protected groups, he isn't (or at least he shouldn't, IMO) going to be held to the same standard as Bill the bank teller or something. It is sort of his job to entertain people by commenting on others. So we should probably compare him and his actions to others in his line of work instead of those in normal workplace atmospheres. Just a thought. How does making sexist remarks about female pilots fall under his line of work? -

QUOTE (Marty34 @ Apr 30, 2012 -> 03:54 PM) It's too bad that you can get fired for writing what Cowley wrote. He didn't do anything illegal and people with his views have the right to a job they are qualified for. Cowley has no right to a job and a platform for his stupidity. -

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Apr 30, 2012 -> 02:12 PM) You're joking. You have to be. Seriously, try saying s*** like that in your workplace, and see how that goes over. Its not about pussified, and everyone here but you and Marty realizes that its Joe who needs to grow up. And talk about being "pussified" - the guy can't say s*** like that to anyone in person of course, he's too afraid to, so he posts it via social media and he's gone before they know about it. Now that is "pussified". America is a bunch of p*****s because open sexism isn't tolerated. Our country is lost. -
QUOTE (Tex @ Apr 29, 2012 -> 04:02 PM) Usually by the anti crowd. The anti gun crowd blows guns way out of propertion more than the small minority of legal, law abiding gun owners who think of them as toys to be played with. I've been around a lot of gun owners, soend a lot of time on various Scout gun ranges, and I can't think of one that acts like Balta has painted some gun owners to act. pick up a gun magazine and look at all the toys for the special forces wanna-bes.

This feels similar to the Bears beating San Diego and looking like they're on a roll and then learning Cutler was out for the season.
