Republican 2012 Nomination Thread
QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jan 18, 2012 -> 06:22 PM) via I thought Wilkinson's article was pretty good. I'll add that he's been using this racist dog whistle "food stamp President" crap since late 2010.

Republican 2012 Nomination Thread
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jan 18, 2012 -> 03:28 PM) hmph. He's getting there now, he's rocketing for the far right as fast as he can. Sort of bizarre to watch. Because honestly, I don't think he's the believer he is trying to act like, I think he is much more pragmatic. He's had a wide range of crazy insane nonsense from the start. What has led you to believe that Gingrich is pragmatic?

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Dec 8, 2011 -> 08:50 AM) I'd like to add that, once you rightfully add Gingrich into that list, the Republican base seems insistent on nominating one of these nuts. further justification: QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jan 18, 2012 -> 02:21 PM) Newt: Palin Will 'Play A Major Role' In My Administration via

Republican 2012 Nomination Thread
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 18, 2012 -> 01:22 PM) Quasi-GOP pollster Rasmussen has a national poll out today showing a big move for the Gingrich, jumping 11 points from 2 weeks ago. Mittens 30%, Gingrich 27%. That isn't a Carolina poll and Ras doesn't have the greatest reputation, but it is the first poll showing any sort of non-Mittmentum since Iowa. Is Rasmussen's GOP-only polling suspect?

The Democrat Thread
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jan 18, 2012 -> 01:12 PM) Illegal? That part I must have missed recently, I'll need to go read up on the latest developments. The Republican Governor (and possibly legislature, too, not sure) opposed the planned route since it ran right over a hugely important aquifer. If Obama had approved the plan, he'd essentially be dismissing the state of Nebraska's objections. Not sure if it'd actually be illegal, though.

The Democrat Thread
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 18, 2012 -> 01:02 PM) With the way the law is currently structured, the Republicans actually made it illegal for them to approve it. I wonder if this really was inadvertent or if it was designed to give them something to attack Obama over.

The Democrat Thread
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jan 18, 2012 -> 12:43 PM) 1. As I just said, he hasn't stopped either, and you proved it. 2. What is really going to go on with SOPA and PIPA, as I am sure you realize, is that they will be re-worked. Nothing is being killed. I was providing context for what I assumed SOXOBAMA was referencing. And you're right that this will likely just be re-tooled into a slightly less awful bill. I'd agree that Obama did not stop this but that the massive tech/internet industry push-back did. Which says something very troubling about our democracy, but I digress... The article states that the State Department will reject the pipeline's currently proposed route at 3PM EST today. They could still work out an alternative down the road. He's required to make a decision prior to the State of the Union address. Killing both SOPA/PIPA and Keystone would be great things, but I doubt that they'll happen 100%.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jan 18, 2012 -> 12:26 PM) This has to be sarcasm... right? You are aware he hasn't stopped either... right? The WH issued a statement saying that they oppose SOPA and PIPA. The Obama administration will also be rejecting the Keystone pipeline. The interesting twist here is that Republicans inadvertently killed the project by forcing a quick decision since the current route is opposed in Nebraska and not enough time was left to approve an alternative.

Argument for not having all INTL players part of June draft
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 18, 2012 -> 10:10 AM) When you post articles, you need to include a link to properly cite the source. if it is a pay article, you are allowed to summarize it, not copy and paste it. FYI I believe fair use standards also state that you can only excerpt the first couple of paragraphs and not reprint the entire article, but IANAL and I could be wrong.

Former Senator Chris Dodd is now apparently the CEO of the Motion Picture Association of America (pro-SOPA). Pretty funny to see the head of the MPAA whine about others doing things to "further their corporate interests."

And Iran, Iran so far away...
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 18, 2012 -> 09:50 AM) At least that article, btw, is a "Leak", not "openly stating". Whoops, read "will present" and expanded it larger than it really meant.

And Iran, Iran so far away...
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 18, 2012 -> 09:43 AM) I was just about to say their actions and their words don't add up. But then again Israel is about as big of a liar as there is on the world stage. How long did it take them to admit they had the bomb? Aside from the implications of not disclosing a facility years ago, what is the evidence that Iran is actually pursuing nuclear weapons? eta I'm not sure what meta political victory Israel would be gaining from openly stating that they do not believe Iran is actively pursuing or attempting to pursue nuclear weapons.

And Iran, Iran so far away...
Hard to morally justify killing civilian scientists if they're not actively pursuing the bomb.

2012 Films Thread
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 17, 2012 -> 04:09 PM) It's been advertised heavily here in the states, but no major studio would pick up the film because they didn't think it was marketable overseas, as the cast is almost entirely African American. Is this actually true, or just George Lucas marketing?

Wisconsin Democrats have turned in their petition with 1,000,000 signatures to recall Walker. They were required to obtain 540,208, but I'm sure some will be challenged and removed so they supplied almost double.

QUOTE (HeGone33 @ Jan 17, 2012 -> 01:08 PM) No animosity in that statement.. 291 with 2 TD's is a good performance, definitely nothing exceptional. There's nothing wrong with calling Smith an average/above-average QB this year who played a hell of a game in the playoffs.

Bill Paying, What Is Your Preference
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jan 17, 2012 -> 10:46 AM) I use financial software and download/track everything. I see transactions come in as they clear. So I review every transaction that hits every account, even if at just a cursory level. Auto-pay just means one less step for me each month. I update Quicken on almost a daily basis. Works great for tracking spending by category as well as overall cashflow levels.

Bill Paying, What Is Your Preference
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jan 17, 2012 -> 09:12 AM) Me as well. Auto-pay everything possible, put as much on the credit card as possible (the rest auto-bill to checking). The credit card is then set to auto-pay once a month the full balance on due date from checking. I rarely have to actively pay a bill. This is the way I set it up. Have to manually pay a couple of bills through the bank website, but almost everything is auto.

Sidebar: Candidates Disclosure
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 17, 2012 -> 09:34 AM) See the difference there though, you crossed into demanding non-existent documents 1/2 way through that statement. Once you open "any and all records" up as legitimate, then Obama's got to release his college transcripts, his student loan information, etc. etc. There are plenty of things that are either dumb, irrelevant or both. One of those, imo, would be medical history outside of anything that may seriously impair their ability to perform their duties (e.g. terminal cancer), since it is none of my business if Mitt has some allergies or once had a broken arm or if he takes Lipitor to lower his cholesterol and doesn't impact his ability to be a President. Another would be college transcripts, because how Mitt or Obama or whoever did in undergrad 20-30+ years ago really doesn't matter. At all. Candidates should not be forced to disclose any and all personal information requested or otherwise suffer from the impression that "they must be hiding something!"
