Onto news not involving the height of CJ Retherford; both he and Danks are in the lineup (2nd & 3rd respectively). And they both grounded out in their first at-bats. Still no Viciedo.

Why Scioscia pulled Jered Weaver who looked filthy in the 8th for Fuentes is completely beyond me. Yes, Weaver would be the likely Game 7 starter, but you need to get there first. Fuentes was shaky in Games 2, 3 & 5. How in the world can you possibly send him back out for a Game 6 or 7? At least seeing Swisher come up empty does my heart well. Shades of '08.

I hope Viciedo's okay. He was in the original lineup on Tuesday, then apparently Peoria went with Green when the game started. And he hasn't been in the lineup since.

Even though that 2nd half was beyond brutal, big thank you to Jermaine Dye for the 5 years he wore the Sox uni, and helping this squad to the promised land in '05. -
Rogers is a proven pud. Of all the writers Baseball America could've gotten to write about the Sox, they got this doofus?

Police: Giants' prospect a suspect in killing (AP) – 4 hours ago SANTO DOMINGO, Dominican Republic — A Dominican baseball prospect for the San Francisco Giants is the main suspect in the killing of a 25-year-old man, police said Sunday. Angel Villalona turned himself in 12 hours after the man was shot at a bar in the southern coastal city of La Romana, Coronel Adrian Urbaez told The Associated Press. Villalona was signed by the San Francisco Giants in 2006 and received a club-record $2.1 million signing bonus. He played in 74 games with a Giants minor-league team this season, posting a .267 batting average with nine home runs and 42 RBIs. The 19-year-old was considered the Giants' most prized prospect when he signed and was chosen the top prospect in the Arizona Rookie League two years ago. Frank Micheli, president of the Azucareros del Este — Villalona's winter baseball team — said he was aware someone was killed but that he had no further details. Villalona will appear in court Monday and could face up to 20 years in prison if found guilty in the Saturday night killing of Mario Felix de Jesus Velete, police said.

Just reported on MLB Network. Ouch.

http://minors.mlblogs.com/archives/2009/09...s_thinking.html Picking in the top half is certainly nice, but with the season going south, I'd love to see them move up a few places. So, go Stros, Brew Crew, & Reds.

2 K's in the inning, including 95 mph heat to Kennedy to end the 5th. Very nice.

QUOTE (CSF @ Sep 8, 2009 -> 08:13 PM) Lincecum was scratched from tonight's start for the Giants. Madison Bumgarner is making his big league debut tonight. Hopefully Hudson will be able to make his first career start before this year is up. Ahh, but he replaces Carrasco in the game. I'll take it.

Bumgarner making his debut tonight for the Giants pitching in place of Lincecum.

There's a Phil Rogers column dying to be written here.

Poreda's line yesterday: 5.1 IP, 1 hit, 3 ER, 8 BB, 8 K's. Good Lord. I know an adjustment period is to be expected, but 37 BB in 32 innings? That's Marmol-esque, without the wipeout slider. At least Dexter's on the DL, so maybe he wasn't 100%, but Poreda is all over the place. How did the Sox coaches get through to him where San Diego's aren't?
-
Adam Russell has a 5.25 with Portland as well. Though he actually has been decent. He's got 4 saves, and of the 9 appearances he's had, all 7 runs he gave up were in 1 outing. Of course, 6 BB in 12 IP is not so good. Again, at least Clayton is giving them a bit on the return.
-
Another rough outing for Dexter Carter with Fort Wayne: 3.2 IP, 4 runs, 5 hits, 3 BB, 2 K's. His ERA is now at 12.86 since leaving Kanny. And Poreda continues to suffer from crappy control: 4 IP, 2 runs, 1 hit, 6 BB, 3 K's. His ERA now at 7.57 since joining Portland.

Strikeout, shallow fly to left, groundout. No runs scored. Of course. -

Minnesota with 3 in the 8th to lead Texas 5-3. But Nathan and the Twinkies doing their best Sox impersonation in the 9th so far. Nathan walks the leadoff batter, gives up a hit, then makes a bad throw on a tailor-made DP ball back to him. Texas with the bases juiced, nobody out. Watch him strike out the side to preserve the win now. -
Bristol's game was cancelled.

Ozzie said on the postgame show that Contreras is starting tomorrow.

Cowley reporting on the Score they shut down Peavy's bullpen session after 5 minutes due to pain from his elbow. His start for Saturday is now in doubt. He's saying most likely it will either be Carrasco, Torres, or Hudson.
-
Man, what the hell happened to Dexter Carter? These are Contreras-like meltdowns. His line tonight: 2 IP, 9 runs, all earned, 8 hits, 3 BB, 2 K's. Don't get me wrong; I'm thrilled the Sox got Peavy, but I feel for Dexter. At one time, everybody's wondering why he wasn't getting moved up to High A, and now he's pitching like he should be in rookie ball. Oh, and Poreda's line from yesterday? Not good either: 4.1 IP, 4 hits, 4 runs, 6 BB, 2 K's. At least Clayton is giving the Padres some value on their return.
