  1. Steve Stone cited on Chicago Tribune Live that because BA still had an option left, it was easier than the Sox exposing Wise to waivers where he could be claimed for $20,000. He also said the Sox feel Wise is a better base-stealer right now. Also it gives BA some regular work in Charlotte. Sounds like they were more concerned with losing Wise at this point.
  2. Birmingham loses 6-2. Viciedo did finish 3-4.
  3. Hudson done after 6 innings. Final line; 6 IP, 5 hits, 0 BB, 6 K's. 59 of his 88 pitches were strikes.
  4. Through 5 innings, Hudson's given up 5 hits, no runs, no walks, 4 K's. Birmingham tacked on 2 more runs off of Parker, who also gave up 3 walks & 1 K. He's out of the game. Good to see B-ham get to one of the best pitching prospects in the minors.
  5. Infante with 6 walks in 1 2/3 IP for W-S. On a brighter note, Hudson's got 4 scoreless innings vs. Parker tonight. 3 hits, no walks, 3 K's.
  6. Norfolk just put a 7 spot on Marquez. They now lead Charlotte 8-1. Sigh.
  7. I know it's only the DSL, but 21 of his 50 hits have been of the extra-base variety (7 HR, 8 trp, 6 doubles). .327 BA, .608 SLG. Unfortunately, he's also got 12 errors, but at least he's not taking his glove to the plate.
  8. Charlotte winning big vs Norfolk Quentin 2-4 with a double, Flowers with his first home run in AAA. Birmingham losing in the 6th Viciedo 2/3, Jordan Danks with 2 walks Kannapolis with a 3-0 shutout win Dexter Carter with continued dominance. 8 IP, 3 hits, 2 BB, 9 K's. Justin Greene 3/4, Gilmore 2/4. W-S falls in extras 5-1 Justin Edwards 8 IP, 1 run

Viciedo finishes 1-2 with an RBI double to right.
  12. Viciedo goes oppo for an RBI double.
  13. And Viciedo air-mailed one past first. Sigh. All 3 of the Sox top position prospects with crappy defensive play today.

    7/12 Games

Flowers started & went 1-2. Viciedo hit in the 6th inning, went hacking at the first pitch and grounded back to the pitcher.
  15. QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Jul 12, 2009 -> 07:05 PM) I think Viciedo just grounded out to the pitcher, but I wouldn't know for sure with the Red Sox love fest going on. It's ESPN. Would you really expect anything else? Of course it sucks that you look forward to seeing Dayan's first at bat, and he goes after the first pitch. Come to think of it, he'll fit in just nicely with the big squad.
  16. Flowers with a single up the middle in his first at bat. And it's raining again.
  17. From ESPN after the end of the 2 million hour rain delay:
  18. Harold Baines dislikes this thread. He silently nods his disapproval.
  19. You're a bad guy. Juan Uribe is gonna haunt your dreams tonight .
  20. QUOTE (lostfan @ Jul 12, 2009 -> 12:03 AM) If Mark Buehrle (using him as an example since he's probably one of the best "character guys" on the Sox) only lasts 2 innings and gives up 8 earned runs, and you asked him what he thought of his performance, could you see him saying "what can I say, I sucked tonight." I could. 3 2/3 innings, and damn you Lost!
  21. Flowers with a cannon arm according to Thorne. I thought there were questions about the throwing strength in his arm.
  22. Another former Sox prospect on the move. From Rotoworld: Wasn't he on BA's top 100 list this year? Maybe this was a factor in moving him
  23. Baseball America is also wondering why Carter hasn't been moved up: From their Hot Sheet:
  24. Take it FWIW, but in yesterday's Yankees-Twins game, Swisher did a hop ala Soriano when catching a popup, which apparently, didn't sit very well with Girardi. Probably doesn't mean anything, but wasn't character issues one of the reasons why Swisher was dealt?
