  1. I'll be honest...I would have been a bit annoyed had the Sox done this.
  2. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jan 15, 2016 -> 08:19 AM) If it was like capitalism, Sale & Quintana could leave to the highest bidder instead of being under Sox control for 6 years. Fair point...I guess to put it better would be more like every other employer. The condition you identified is present in pretty much every workplace in America.
  3. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jan 15, 2016 -> 08:03 AM) For all the overpaid Avi Garcias, there are countless underpaid Sales & Quintanas. Baseball. More like capitalism.

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Jan 12, 2016 -> 06:27 AM) What do you call a guy who barely passed the PMP? A certified project manager! I did a lot of project management over the course of the last year as the lead on a very large project we undertook in our department. Props to all you project managers out there! You've got extraordinary amounts of patience, you are incredibly persistent and resilient, and a willingness to painstakingly insist that all the various t's are crossed and i's are dotted. I'm a "big picture" guy and so I struggle to manage all the details. Very pleased to have that hat removed from my head this year.
  5. QUOTE (fathom @ Jan 12, 2016 -> 03:51 PM) After Parra mentioned today how excited he is to go play with his BF cargo, it makes me think Dickerson or Blackmon will most likely be traded Yeah, makes you think he would have at least asked the question in regards to Cargo's future in Colorado. Would be pretty humorous if they went and moved him now. Honestly, if the Rockies want to move Blackmon, I would absolutely love to have him.
  6. QUOTE (raBBit @ Jan 11, 2016 -> 05:34 PM) You have a good eye fathom. This, according to the some in the org, happens at home for the most part. The Sox have worked with him wearing different glasses, worked with different coaches, etc. to try and fix this. For whatever reason, Eaton cannot pick up the ball off the bat at home. You two seem to be commenting on different things...Fathom, the time to release the ball on a throw, and you, the time it takes to pick up and take a first step to the ball.
  7. QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Jan 11, 2016 -> 09:09 PM) Because I am a pathetically bored Sox fan, I'll play devil's advocate. We did trade for Lawrie, despite his pre '15 health issues. I will say this for CarGo, he played 153 games with over 600 PA in '15 so he has that going for him. If we can get him without giving up Q or Anderson or Fulmer, by all means, let's go for it.

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jan 11, 2016 -> 04:19 PM) A year after this post. Definitely the right call. New job, baby, new house and still alive. Today I got a $30,000 bonus. Huzzah!! Congrats, Steve!
  9. QUOTE (raBBit @ Jan 11, 2016 -> 05:05 PM) I never heard this. What I heard happened was Hahn wanted Middlebrooks and KW wanted Avi. Both players aren't good. Luckily they did well with Montas/Wendelken. Are coaching staffs expected to make every player a star? Hah, this is a problem
  10. QUOTE (raBBit @ Jan 11, 2016 -> 04:58 PM) I listed three of the biggest college rape scandals in the country. These were of the most publicized rape cases at Universities and all of them ended in the men being completely absolved from the crime. Maybe it's the media, maybe it's academia, but someone is picking the wrong cases to run with and it's flogging the conversation to a negative light. There's a lot of issues. Obviously I understand rape is a horrible thing and there's a lot of problems with women being able to talk about their experience. I won't even go down that rabbit hole and just assume we're all decent people here. I take issue with the way academia, the media and mainstream feminists (really chauvinists) have tilted the conversation where women experiencing regret in who they have sex with is now considered rape. And that's putting the whole high profile individual thing aside. If a woman or man get hammered and drive a car and get pulled over both of them will be held accountable. If these two people instead decide to have sex, only the man can be held accountable. That's not equality. Only women need to consent. I understand the physical dominance men have over women plays a role but it's not all cut and dried. That's not rape if both people were willing to have sex. I'm sure most of us have had drunk hook ups, and those of us also wouldn't like to be brought to court because a girl wasn't happy with the decisions she made when she was drunk after the fact. This is a testimonial and I don't base my opinion off of my experience but a girl I went to high school with was gorgeous. She had really rich parents who were overbearing and very protective. One night, when we were seniors, someone had a party and the girl who usually, had to be home by midnight, got hammered and sloppy drunk because she was staying at a friends house. She ended up fawning over this guy who, while a great guy, wasn't the most handsome or fit guy. They ended up getting after it and she was telling people laughing about once they were done. Next day, she sobered out and had serious regret because the kid was ugly to her and her friends. She was complaining to her friends about it on her computer and her parents stumbled upon it and went to the lawyers. The girl had to beg her parents not to sue the kid and he nearly had an expulsion hearing. I get this isn't the rule of thumb and real rape is a very separate issue but I just don't believe the rape conversation/picture is very accurate right now. Again, that's putting aside the real victims. Bravo, my friend. Bravo.
  11. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Jan 11, 2016 -> 04:31 PM) My biggest concern with Gonzalez isn't the Coors effect, it's his chronic health issues. I really hope he's just a backup plan to a FA OF. We've done pretty well on that front.
  12. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 6, 2016 -> 10:37 AM) For my two cents on the situation you describe, I would get rid of the retirement account loan first. If something happens to you or your job, that comes due instantly. To me, that is the deciding factor. Yeah, but he isn't going to be able to pay that off. He's still going to owe $17k, which, in your scenario, probably still leaves him in a bind. I'd put about $6k of it on the credit card debt, and add the other $2k to your emergency fund/savings, and then work to pay off the remaining $2k.
  13. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jan 3, 2016 -> 04:41 PM) That's Peyton Manning's music! Will be a fun two weeks for Denver sports radio. And Jim Tomosula earned that up coming pink slip with that punt from the 37 under two minutes left. I'm not so sure Fox wouldn't do the same thing, unfortunately.
  14. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jan 3, 2016 -> 08:12 AM) Huh? I just said I wish we had those refs since they let the exact same play go. Would have been nice to see more than 5 minutes of one of the best to ever put on the jersey before he left. And the announcers said that he should have gotten penalized for the exact same play. They are not going to call it every time, every game. Get over it.
  15. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jan 2, 2016 -> 08:05 PM) That game was like watching a car accident. Sure was. What a horrendous coaching job by the Oregon Ducks staff. Do you not have any offensive plays where the qb is under center? Can you not eat some clock? Inexcusable. Locke is actually decent but he was so flustered by the snaps, I think he was completely off his game. Adams is equally stupid for taking on that hit when he could have easily avoided taking that much contact.
  16. QUOTE (Tony @ Jan 2, 2016 -> 02:30 PM) Relax. There is like a 12 page thread about the new Star Wars movie, and I've posted a lot in it. We're all nerds. You're comment was just a little extra special. Hah. Are we really sure that the prequels are canon?
  17. QUOTE (bmags @ Jan 2, 2016 -> 02:07 PM) Yahoo has some very heavy hitters. I do not know why they were brought up thou. Yeah, Passan and Wojnarowski.
  18. QUOTE (Tony @ Jan 1, 2016 -> 11:28 AM) I would love for the Sox to be super progressive and pay Gordon or Cesdepes 25-27 million a season for 3 years, but they'll never do it. +1
  19. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jan 1, 2016 -> 11:04 AM) That's not spearing either. Whatever. Tackle the quarterback with your shoulder. Don't be a p**** and use your helmet.
  20. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jan 1, 2016 -> 10:55 AM) Helmet and intent is a clear ejection. Hit to the chest? Come on. You can't open the quarterback or receivers to getting f***ing speared by linebackers/safeties leading with the crown. Tackle the right way, not using your equipment as a weapon.
  21. QUOTE (ZoomSlowik @ Jan 1, 2016 -> 10:46 AM) It's a terrible rule, at least the way it's written. It shouldn't be an automatic ejection and it shouldn't be a penalty if it's not to the head. But it is a rule and it is written the way it is, and he still made it simple on them. The sad thing is that he did it on such an easy play.
  22. QUOTE (Heads22 @ Jan 1, 2016 -> 10:43 AM) Can't lead with the helmet, intentional or not. You can argue the rule is stupid, but it was enforced correctly. Well I don't like the ones where the defender's position changes at the last millisecond and an unintentional hit with the head results. This one was like as easy as it gets though.
  23. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jan 1, 2016 -> 10:38 AM) A hit into the chest. Awful. That was like the example of hitting with the crown that they play for the refs when they are showing the training videos. I don't know how it could have been any more clear.
