QUOTE (RockRaines @ Dec 4, 2013 -> 10:27 AM) ok. Started another round of p90X since its been awhile and ive let myself take a long rest. Day 2 was yesterday and today, well, can barely walk. Had to pause 3 times during plyo. S+A tonight with some ab ripper Apparently P90X3 just came out. Looks like it's a return to a lot of the things in the original, but the workouts have been reduced to about 30 minutes each.

QUOTE (pettie4sox @ Dec 12, 2013 -> 08:11 AM) Seriously? My biggest concern would be the fall out. A lot of friends and family have met this girl and I the same of hers. To break it off over something like this, I'm sure I'd be judged to kingdom come (from my family too). I don't want to force her but I also feel myself not being attracted to her anymore. I probably just need to man up and get it over with but I just feel like I would be a s***ty person for doing this. Well, do you want to feel this way for the rest of your life with her? Do you want to be married to a person for 40 years that you are not attracted to? It's not like you have to explain this is the reason...you can just say "our interests were diverging, we just didn't have much in common anymore, etc." I know it's not easy, and I am not by any means telling you to break up with her, but if you aren't attracted to her anymore, and you feel like you're falling out of love or whatever, that is something you really need to consider fixing, one way or another.

QUOTE (pettie4sox @ Dec 12, 2013 -> 08:00 AM) We've been together almost 2 years now. I can see her getting complacent. I'm not a picky guy when it comes to how women dress or use make up (that's their prerogative). Hell, I don't care about her grooming habits either. I don't expect her to be a super model, but to just be in moderate shape would be suffice. She's gotten bigger and I'm just thinking to myself why does she think this is OK? I try to be passive aggressive by getting on the scale, showing her how my clothes barely fit anymore and stating how good it feels. Getting into shape too has caused my mind to wander since I see fit and hot women at the gym. I think all you can do is stress how important staying fit and healthy is to you, and like you mentioned, continue to tell her how great the benefits of working out are. But you can't force a person to prioritize that in their life anymore than you can force them to prioritize their career, or some hobby of theirs. People are who they are and they usually aren't going to stray from that too much. If she just isn't your cup of tea anymore, then it is probably time to move on. I dated someone a few years ago and I made the decision to move on, partially because of this exact same reason.

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Dec 12, 2013 -> 07:41 AM) Really, I don't think that's shallow. You are trying to get in better shape, look better, and take care of yourself. The least she could do is go to the gym with you a couple times a week and do a mile or two on the treadmill/eliptical/bike to show that she is supporting you doing that. Without trying to get too preachy, we go through a lot of difficult endeavors in life, and we need those closest to us to offer support. If it's not there, it's time to find different avenues to try and get that support. I dunno about this, Wite...I agree that we might all like our significant others to value their health and appearance, but I don't know if "the least" they could do is to accompany us to the gym a few times a week. What if she gardened a lot in the interest of growing produce to contribute to a healthy diet...would it be "the least" he could do to be out there with her three times a week planting tomatoes? I know I'd be like, yeah, you have fun with that Honey

QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ Dec 12, 2013 -> 06:40 AM) My parents were foster parents for a few kids during my childhood years, and we eventually adopted my sister who had been with us since she was 1. However I think that this person is making half that stuff up in there for the sake of the story. It just doesn't sound right. In the interest of full disclosure, the author is an acquaintance of mine...I can't vouch for whether the events in the article actually occurred, but I will say that she has faced these sorts of ignorant comments before. I remember when I first met her, hearing about her background and her story...it actually IS really interesting and almost hard to believe. And if you actually saw her in person (she is, well, very stunning in many ways), I think you could imagine people saying these things to her, especially on a cruise. But then you meet her and she's this really bright writer, educated at Northwestern, lived all over the country applying her trade, and has moved up quickly within her industry.

Sox acquire Adam Eaton from ARZ, deal Santiago, Jacobs
iamshack replied to Baron's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I like the acquisition, as the guy, if he does pan out, is really a perfect fit for us. I do hope they exercise patience in dealing De Aza though. It won't end up being such a great deal if it forces us to sell low on De Aza. -
QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Dec 10, 2013 -> 09:31 AM) McCown being smarter with the ball keeps being a big selling point for him, so we should actually look at the decisions he's making, not just the outcomes. Yesterday, he made two really dumb decisions (or bad throws) that thankfully were dropped, but they were still not smart plays on his part. Let's see some evidence that McCown really is smarter with the ball, and that the difference is big enough to make up for the clearly inferior physical talents. I don't think many people here are saying McCown is better, just relative to the dollars he's probably a better value.
-
QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Dec 10, 2013 -> 09:23 AM) Yes, every QB has those. But if we're going to talk about how much smarter with the ball McCown is, we need to look at the decisions he's making with it. Whether or not the DB catches the ball that's thrown right at him doesn't tell us whether the QB made a good decision to throw it there. I wasn't talking about him relative to Cutler. I was talking about him relative to being a fluke.
-
QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Dec 10, 2013 -> 09:13 AM) They put up 20 points against the Vikings. What about the modern NFL says it's a good idea to handicap your offense to go after defensive FA's? The part where the rules favor offenses and we have outstanding weapons in place. That essentially means we can get away with a bit lesser-skilled qb than in the past.
-
QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Dec 10, 2013 -> 09:14 AM) he had two really dumb throws yesterday that was just luck/painfully cold that they were dropped. That happens. Jay does this every week too, basically.
-
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 10, 2013 -> 09:06 AM) Everything about this year screams fluke for McCown. It is just insanity to let a franchise QB walk away in the modern NFL. Not arguing we let Cutler walk, but McCown's passes are accurate and he makes good decisions. He's also pretty darn athletic. Yes, he's 34, but he doesn't have the mileage on him that a normal 34 year old NFL qb has. It doesn't look like a fluke to me at all.

Ok, I am asking myself why on earth would KW go on this show and mention this? I doubt it was to give us some excitement about a potential deal.

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Dec 10, 2013 -> 08:05 AM) Isnt it possible that everyone on the offense has a better understanding of the scheme since Jay went out? It is year 1 with this system. Jeffrey's routes are 100% better than game 1. Certainly.
-
All I know is I think Josh uses the weapons in this offense better than Jay, primarily because he doesn't focus on Marshall so much. In Jay's defense, he had to rely on Marshall so much in the past that it's probably just habit to focus on him on almost every passing route. I'd like to see Jay get a chance to exploit defenses with his new toys a bit more before I really feel like we will know what we have here.

QUOTE (IowaSoxFan @ Dec 9, 2013 -> 07:42 AM) I think there is a lot of merit to the argument. Other teams feel they would be settling for Santiago when there are options they would rather pursue on the same roster. I agree. It's just human nature I think. When you are considering a choice within a group of choices, I think the natural thing is to want the 1st or 2nd best, not the third. That doesn't mean an intelligent acquirer wouldn't look at each player within a vacuum, but I think the tendency is to not want to settle for Santiago when Quintana is there. Additionally, Quintana's consistency provides a stark contrast to Santiago's inconsistency.

Part of the issue with wind farms currently (apart from the aesthetics you all have been discussing) is that much of the tax incentives revolving around production costs are up in the air. The numbers don't work for the developers unless those tax incentives are present, at least in this natural gas market.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 3, 2013 -> 07:01 AM) And we'd have a $500 million payroll, until the team started out 0-2 and traded everyone. We'd still have the $500 million payroll though, just no players left

2013-14 off season player movement thread
iamshack replied to southsider2k5's topic in The Diamond Club
More interesting, perhaps, is that Beane was one of, if not the first, to really correct the overvaluing of closers several years back by trading his away. Perhaps he believes the pendulum has now swung back too far in the other direction... -
QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Dec 2, 2013 -> 08:19 PM) Obviously anything can happen in one game but good luck beating Seattle in Seattle in the playoffs. I see you've learned..

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Dec 2, 2013 -> 08:47 AM) If you really think you and others on here know obvious plays that will no doubt work for yardage and Trestman doesn't, it's time for the Fire Trestman thread. Without a doubt if he called for one of these so called slants and the pass was tipped and picked off, the experts who now say that would have worked would have been saying, "they were in obvious FG range, why are they taking any chances? Well, as for the play selection, everyone watches everyone else's film, and implements eachother's situational plays in the NFL. It's not like cracking some top-secret code or something where I or someone else knows things or doesn't know things that Trestman does or does not. It's more about a philosophy that he has that has not worked particularly well that I disagree with. Trestman has made decisions I and most others would agree with in terms of when to go for it and when not to, but his play calling in many of those situations has been conservative. He makes the aggressive decision to go for it instead of kicking, but then he calls a traditional short-yardage play that NFL defenses have become very adept at stopping. In my humble opinion (and I get it, I am no coach, but based on what coaches like Andy Reid and Bill Belichick and John Fox are doing), it seems to help if you run something that is still a safe play but is not so easily stopped by a defense stacking the box to stop an inside running play. As for the second guessing because of a turnover there, I think there would definitely be people grumbling, as there always will be when things don't work out, but people would be grumbling about the execution of that play more so than not kicking a field goal there. From 47 yards, no. From 37 yards, quite possibly.

QUOTE (chw42 @ Dec 2, 2013 -> 08:38 AM) Alshon has around 150 more yards than Marshall now on the season. Who would have thought that'd be possible heading into the season? More interestingly to me, I wonder how much of that is a result of Marshall being the primary target of defenses, or Alshon just being a f***ing beast? Probably a little bit of both, but more of the latter than most folks realize...
