QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Nov 7, 2013 -> 11:42 AM) Movie adaptation of Bill O'Reilly's book 'Killing Kennedy' airs Sunday on NatGeo. Ok, so I didn't read the book, but I watched the movie adaptation. What the hell was the point? This is the same basic story that we have all been told. Did I miss something!

Sox to Make Hard Push for Granderson
iamshack replied to Chicago White Sox's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Nov 16, 2013 -> 01:18 PM) Just because someone strikes out too much, doesn't mean you have to think a guy who rarely strikes out is good. It is not being inconsistent. It isn't mutually exclusive. There are people who don't like pitchers who don't throw hard. Are they then locked into thinking every hard thrower is good? The problem with the Greg bashers is you rush to criticize everything he posts before you actually think about it. The point is that Greg picks and chooses who he likes or dislikes based on no recognizable or consistent philosophy or set of attributes. He points out certain flaws in some players and yet ignores them in others. He's all over a guy like Rios and yet he tries to convince us that Konerko should receive a pass. He wants us to pay to trade Dunn, yet wants us to pay to bring Konerko back. Fine, he's entitled to his opinions. I just think some folks would prefer he put a bit more substance into them. -
QUOTE (raBBit @ Nov 16, 2013 -> 01:17 PM) While it's all too early in the offseason to say who is definitively going to play 2B/3B, I hope that we cut the cord on Beckham and start Marcus in AAA. I just don't get why we'd cut the cord on Gordon only to rush Semien in - the same thing we did with Gordon.
-
Semien shouldn't be forcing our hands to do anything. If something makes sense as far as a trade, and that opens up a spot for him in Chicago, great. If not, I think he should be starting in Charlotte. If we're going to move Alexei or Gordon, it should be for reasons other than Marcus Semien.

Who willl win the Boras/Jay-Z agent war?

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 14, 2013 -> 10:21 AM) Oh he is perfectly qualified to do so. He probably knows them as well, or better than, the teams know their own fan bases. This is just tweeking teams who aren't spending right now. Bologna...he doesn't know what these teams are planning to do on other fronts moving forward. There are plenty of other aspects to improving or positioning an organization than free agency; in fact, the impact of free agency has been decreasing because teams have been locking up their young talent early, eliminating them from hitting the market in their primes. He doesn't know the trade discussions that are occurring, he doesn't know the state of their farm systems as well as the organizations do, he doesn't know what plans they have for their current players, etc. He's just trying to drum up pressure for these teams to enter the marketplace and pay his ridiculous asking prices. -

It's just weak that he would use this tactic as a way to try and get the fanbases to pressure the teams...he is in no way qualified to understand each team's unique position going forward. That's just bs. -
I understand...I guess I just don't waste my energy on people like him... The last girl I dated was black, and so I started to get accustomed to the looks after awhile...not trying to say I'm "used to the racism!" (Of course I couldn't be), but you do learn very quickly that people like that aren't worth your time or efforts.

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Nov 13, 2013 -> 05:12 PM) And the only places they dispense larger bills are strip clubs and casinos. I think he meant he gets them out like one $20 per visit...

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Nov 13, 2013 -> 03:45 PM) Inevitable, maybe, but not necessary. Isn't he saying that the people with those views need to suppress that reflex, as opposed to not suppressing it? I mean I get why you are angry, and I get why he phrased that the way he did, but, there are actually people that openly will gag...those are the ones I am concerned about...

QUOTE (chw42 @ Nov 13, 2013 -> 03:28 PM) Oops. I'll wait for the second batch, I'm not in that much of a hurry. Yeah, you could go Thursday night at midnight, but I think I'll wait as well.

QUOTE (chw42 @ Nov 13, 2013 -> 02:32 PM) Yeah it's out of stock at Walmart now too. I think you can still pre-order at Toys R Us though. Toys R Us is out too.

QUOTE (bmags @ Nov 13, 2013 -> 01:54 PM) Well, 100's are completely impractical. Well that and the fact that you don't want to be carrying wads of cash around as a famous athlete...

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Nov 13, 2013 -> 01:13 PM) Pre-order with Wal-mart and you can have it this week. I think it's out of stock everywhere for Pre-Ordering...

QUOTE (Mr. Showtime @ Nov 13, 2013 -> 10:46 AM) Steve, yeah she is still looking. She's been working with her sister on trying to clean up how the resume looks and adding more information to it. We live in Schaumburg, but she's been open to anything in terms of location. Not sure what exactly she is looking for, but has she checked the University of Chicago Medical Center's job board? If she sees anything on there of interest, let me know...I have a contact over there... UCMC job board?

QUOTE (Benchwarmerjim @ Nov 12, 2013 -> 10:37 AM) The Olympics built Turner Field, not the Braves. Thank you.

QUOTE (iamshack @ Oct 7, 2013 -> 09:38 AM) So two new management positions were posted in our trading group today. One is right up my alley. Going to apply. Surprisingly, the other is the OPs and Trading Manager position. Apparently our current manager is being re-assigned (demoted). Ended up getting offered this position this morning...yay for new challenges and a little more money!

QUOTE (Iwritecode @ Nov 12, 2013 -> 09:02 AM) Second this. In fact, I said something similar earlier in this thread. My wife has always said that if we ever had a house fire, our wedding album is the one thing she would run back in to grab after the kids and pets were out. Hah, I missed that...I couldn't agree more.

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Nov 12, 2013 -> 09:18 AM) You offer something like Santiago, Flowers, and Thompson/Petricka and let them decide. Castro is not a vital piece, but he is a nice piece. If you can get him within your restraints - which that deal definitely would be - you can go ahead and make the move. Otherwise, find another piece and be done with it. If I am the Astros, and I have a talented young catcher, in this environment where they are extremely hard to come by, there is nothing about that package that makes me even consider it. I'd need to see at the very least, Quintana in that deal...

Bastille's Bad Blood is a pretty solid album...

So the most important thing for me in this whole wedding planning fiasco was to get great pictures. The night will come and go, the food will be eaten, the drinks consumed, the music danced to, and it will just be a memory...but the photos will last for the rest of our lives. I wanted to get an awesome photographer because my family just never took/kept that many photos and I always felt like I missed out on family heritage/history, especially considering my father passed away when I was only four. I was determined to have a LOT of photos taken...GOOD photos...of this time in my life. Not only for my fiancée and I, but for our parents, and any future children and their families. So bottom line, we paid a s***load of money for basically the best photographer in Vegas. As part of the package we purchased, we received an "engagement session" which included an hour or so of pictures around town and then back at our home. We did that a few weeks ago and got the photos back over the weekend...176 of them actually. I must say, I couldn't be happier with how they turned out. Not because of how either of us looked or anything, but rather because of the quality. These photos are ad agency quality and many of them will look great framed in our home. I would f***ing kill for photos like these of my parents together when they were young, and of my father in general. Hopefully my children (if I have any) and grandchildren will enjoy knowing who and where they came from. I would highly recommend any of you guys that are getting married to spend the money on the photos...IMHO it is very worth the expense.

Wasn't this a movie a few years back?

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Nov 11, 2013 -> 12:19 PM) Frankly, I heard everything they said at the time in 2003 and I thought it was a very simple choice. I looked at their case and thought anyone who listened to them was a fool. I even gave them their fair shot, at least through Bush's speech in October 03 to try to sell the thing. Didn't join the anti-war segment until after that. It was 100% abundantly clear that they wanted a war and they were willing to do anything possible to get it. And if "we needed to kill more people in response to 9/11 and Afghanistan wasn't good enough" was in fact the real reason for that war...well then the people who made that call are truly sickening. I know at least NYT columnist Tom Friedman endorsed that perspective and I think that's a fair word for it. Yeah, there were clearly some folks that were level-headed enough to think ahead and realize what an error in judgment this would be...far too many of us were not.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Nov 11, 2013 -> 11:59 AM) But for that President in particular, I can point to at least 1 of his disasters and say "This was entirely his choice, to the letter". You can spread blame around for the economic crash, 9/11, the drowning of an American city, the debacle in Afghanistan to some degree, the surveillance state, but his policies definitely played into all of those. But the Iraq war, why-ever it was launched (a book is coming out soon/just came out trying to puzzle that out and still coming up with no good answer)...that was 100% his choice. How that war was planned, the torture campaign, the details...in 30 years historians will be telling that story as "his war" and "his failure" because it was. It may not have been at the level of the second world war, but that was just about the second longest war in American history. Vietnam, to me, was worse...I realize Iraq and Afghanistan are looked at as horrific mistakes in judgment, and I agree they were, but I also think we need to recall this was the first time since Pearl Harbor that we've been attacked on American soil (not that you could forget) and there was incredible pressure to react. I'm not saying what ultimately happened and the duration of it doesn't rise almost to the level of indefensible, but I think a LOT of Commander's in Chief would have fallen into the same trap. Then as soon as you get in there you're constantly making decision after decision to justify earlier decisions and casualties. It's all too easy to criticize now, but to pretend as if the decision, at the time, was a simple one, is unfair. An awful lot of people voted to enter those wars. We can all say we were duped by the supposed evidence of wmd's but let's face it, people were going to see what they wanted to see to justify enacting revenge on the Middle East for having the audacity to attack American soil and to hit those targets in particular.

I don't follow politics like you guys do, but my thoughts are just that you can't compare Obama's Presidency to any in recent history...has anyone ever had to deal with this level of idiotic stubbornness from the opposition party before? Or since Lincoln anyways? Seems to me like the game has entirely changed.

QUOTE (DukeNukeEm @ Nov 11, 2013 -> 08:17 AM) Its a cornball speech but I adore that piece of dialouge from that movie. A lot of people have not the slightest idea what makes this country run, they just migrate from apartment to cubicle and get so fat and sensitive in that sterile enviroment theyd be incapable of existing in a world were "how you feel about that" is irrelevant. Im not proud of driving truck any further than being proud of myself for making a middle class wage at my age (which is kinda rare) doing something I love. I could care less about the load of organic soy milk going to Whole Foods and the people who depend on it. It is nice to remind them that my industry isnt just expendable when they start whining about drivers going too slow. Again, I think people would respect your position a bit more if you'd have been doing it for more than say, 6 months...
