  1. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 29, 2013 -> 08:13 AM) There was absolutely no reason he should have ever been in that lane. He had to defy the warning signs to be there. I don't know if that counts as illegal or not but it's at least close. At some point he chose to do so and it created an unsafe condition for the entire highway. But one thing I do learn from this is that there are truckers out there who will defend the right of other truckers to make conditions unsafe for everyone. That's a real good thing to know, basically assume that no matter how much experience they have, they're either as irresponsible as that guy or they will step up to defend him. I think Duke has made some reasonable points but his tone doesn't usually lend itself to sympathy. Our country is entirely dependent on the trucking industry and regular drivers certainly do disregard how difficult it is to operate a truck in many conditions and how dangerous trucks are.
  2. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 28, 2013 -> 06:03 PM) Half of those wins are against the White Sox... Hah, you joke, but almost 1/3 are
  3. QUOTE (zenryan @ Sep 27, 2013 -> 09:16 PM) Cleveland has the 21st best record vs .500 or better teams at 36-52. Yeah, and they are an insane 54-18 against below .500 teams.
  4. QUOTE (DukeNukeEm @ Sep 28, 2013 -> 08:08 AM) Maybe everyone passing him on the right made it impossible to merge back? I don't know, I wasn't there. All I have is testimony from a 4 wheeler. And that's the problem. You barely know the meaning of "slowed down". Its just more of the same "I know better than these ignorant f***ing truckers do on these roads! They barely know how to drive!". I'm sorry you didn't shave a minute or two off your commute that day, really breaks my heart that you, your BIG TIME Class D license and little s***box didn't feel as entitled to full ownership of those roads as you should. Us truckers, yea I mean we might drive more hours in a day than you will all week, we might be carrying 45,000 lbs of crap for you to buy and sure, the difference 10 MPH makes to your commute 1 MPH makes to our entitre day but we need to understand that 4 wheelers just know better. I'll keep it in mind next time I have to overtake another truck: "Now think, not passing him will cost me $1.50/hr. But if I do pass him some of these 4 wheelers might be 4 minutes, as opposed to 6 minutes, early for the job they hate". Oh spare us the dramatics. You've been driving a truck for like a month there, Mr Convoy.
  5. Very good article on Jay. The Maturation of Jay Cutler
  6. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Sep 26, 2013 -> 10:46 AM) Sounds like about 95% of the OSU fans I have ever met, none of them went to school there. My wife went to Miami which helps you meet those type of people I guess. Well, you're talking about a powerhouse program located in a state where the NFL teams are the Browns and the Bengals.
  7. This isn't fantasy football related, but it certainly is fantasy related...too funny not to post. Out on this field we are gods
  8. As much as I wanted us to lose, losing to Cleveland still sucks.
  9. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Sep 24, 2013 -> 02:19 PM) The Devil Rays/Rays were the first team in the history of the modern draft to have the #1 pick 2 years in a row. That was 2007 and 2008. The Nationals then had it 2 years in a row in 2009 and 2010. The Pirates stole one in 2011 (taking Gerrit Cole, who's already a monster), and now the Astros are the first to ever have it 3 years in a row. Think about that for a second...in the first 40 years of the Rule 4 draft, no team had ever had the first overall pick two years in a row. In the 8 years since that anniversary, we've had 3 teams get it consecutively, and now the Astros have had it 3 years in a row. A few things come to mind...revenue sharing has allowed for teams that suck to still make money and survive. This allows for more patient development plans and even serves as an incentive for extremely low payrolls; teams are no longer reliant on their live gate and thus can afford to bite the bullet for a few seasons. Additionally, the pendulum can swing the other way. Successful teams can garner massive media contracts and therefore afford higher payrolls, often time guaranteeing some modicum of success and keeping them out of the first several picks of the draft. Interesting phenomenon.
  10. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 24, 2013 -> 01:19 PM) And Cleveland needs these games badly. The Sox could care less. The fiancee is an Indians fan (certainly not a diehard). I admonished her last year for still cheering on the Indians in the last few weeks to beat us, even though they were playing for nothing and we needed the wins badly. I guess I will be cheering on the Indians.
  11. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 24, 2013 -> 01:07 PM) Yeah, but again, I think that there was enough negotiation for the higher-ups at Penn State to know that they were effectively getting an appeal-style deal. I certainly got the impression that the NCAA seriously wanted the death penalty and Penn State basically said "we'll completely stop fighting this and we'll issue statements supporting you if you switch to the harshest non-death-penalty punishment you can do". I certainly got the impression that there were a few very loud board members in the hours after the punishments came down who were threatening all sorts of lawsuits and then suddenly they shut up a few hours later, as if they were told "you file this and they shut the program down". Am I wrong? I have no idea, I wasn't there...but it certainly sounds plausible.
  12. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 24, 2013 -> 01:02 PM) The internal thing that we rapidly heard after the punishment came down was that if they felt Penn State wasn't cooperating, their response was going to be a multi-year death penalty for the program. Right, and then their penalties were basically "by decree." There was no appeal process. They didn't handle this particularly well, as they usually don't, but let's not pretend that the whole country wasn't behind kicking the s*** out of PSU at the time.
  13. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Sep 24, 2013 -> 12:46 PM) The reason that the NCAA did this is because its semi-unclear if criminal actions unrelated to the sport were subject to sanctions by the NCAA in the first place. I dont really see a booster situation as comparable seeing as I doubt many people would say that the reason Sandusky was raping kids was to help get Penn State recruits. Which is ultimately the NCAA's function, to keep a fair playing field. NCAA is a joke regardless. Bilas was on Cowherd this morning and pointed out that Penn St commissioned the Freeh Report, which was then used by the NCAA to beat them to death with it. Sort of sets a bad precedent for schools doing their own investigations. Why bother?
  14. And another good one from Kyle's favorite site (other than soxtalk, of course): Broncos' RB's played RPS for Touchdown carry
  15. Since we discussed Skip before, I thought I'd link this: 9 things Skip wants you to know about him Still shocked that Rick could be his brother...
  16. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 24, 2013 -> 11:35 AM) And since you couldn't include a link I had to go find one to know what you were talking about. Well Kyle posted the link like 3 or 4 posts before BMags's post.
  17. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Sep 24, 2013 -> 08:55 AM) I understand that the Kickers are getting smarter, but Devin has always had a problem with dancing around looking for a lane. When he was younger and faster, he could get away with it. Now, he just puts the offense in a bad starting position. And yea, Punt returns. Oh my god. Did you see Trindon Holliday last night though? Same s***.
  18. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Sep 24, 2013 -> 07:10 AM) No, I am judging after last year, and this year so far, and adding Wes Welker to the offense. Yeah, judging after like every game Peyton Manning has played for them...they are a beast. Only thing that can slow them down a bit is weather I think.
  19. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 23, 2013 -> 02:58 PM) Marc Topkin ‏@TBTimes_Rays 9m Looked like an air cast on a Machado's left leg What a shame...
  20. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Sep 23, 2013 -> 11:15 AM) Mick Jagger is a GREAT grandfather. That is just crazy Did you happen to catch the documentary about them Saturday night? "Charlie is my darling." Shot in 1965...interviews mostly of MJ, when he was 22...pretty amazing.
  21. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Sep 23, 2013 -> 08:34 AM) I even f*** this up I suck at life right now guys I'm in the same boat...0-5-1 on my NFL bets the last two weeks. Rotten.
  22. QUOTE (MexSoxFan#1 @ Sep 22, 2013 -> 02:06 PM) ok, u got a good point, always great to see the Pack, Vikes and Lions lose...now we need to win tonight Lions won
  23. QUOTE (lostfan @ Sep 20, 2013 -> 02:40 PM) Alex Smith's risk-free game is boring, but it's effective. His teams have won a lot of games the past 3 years with that. Remember last year when I told you the Chiefs were pretty close to being good? In other news, the line on the Texans/Ravens game went from about Texans -1 to Baltimore -1.5 or -2. At virtually every book at virtually the same time. The Pros must have hit it hard. Always find stuff like that interesting.
  24. QUOTE (farmteam @ Sep 22, 2013 -> 09:49 AM) Yes it does...any suggestions for a specific brand, or an easy recipe? I think some guys here have recommended Quest bars or something. I'm lazy and just go with Cliff bars.
  25. QUOTE (farmteam @ Sep 22, 2013 -> 07:24 AM) I think I'm the only person around that doesn't like yogurt. Never have Sounds like your solution is a protein/granola/breakfast bar of some type, my friend.
