  1. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Sep 9, 2013 -> 10:19 PM) Im just saying that right now Kelly is inheriting a team that isnt exactly built for his offense. In a few more years I expect him to get some more speed weapons to really allow him to open the playbook. (edit) And same old charges lol. Guess it doesnt matter who is coaching. Well a few years ago, the Eagles probably had the most speed of any NFL offense...they still have most of those players. Maclin has been injured like 78% of the games since they drafted him, and this year is no different I guess...
  2. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Sep 9, 2013 -> 08:00 PM) Like who? Jackson, Shady and Vick accounted for 342/443 yards, 77%. Riley Cooper isnt someone who is going to threaten you on end around, bubble screen etc, same with Jason Avant. Celek and Ertz are good players, but Kelly needs more speed players who can can get the ball quick and make people pay in the open field because eventually defenses are just going to lock onto Jackson and force Vick to go to everyone else. But those three guys are pretty solid weapons, are they not? Celek is a pretty solid TE as well, and and the other back from Tennessee is also talented.
  3. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Sep 9, 2013 -> 06:46 PM) Im really not sure what the Redskins are doing against the Eagles right now. Eagles dont really have the weapons to run Kelly's offense, so you probably just have to focus on Shady/Jackson and then force the rest of the Eagles to beat you. I mean does Riley Cooper and Brent Celek scare anyone? (Edit) Um someone should tell Vick he probably shouldnt be throwing his shoulder into defensive ends. Huh? The Eagles have plenty of weapons.
  4. QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Sep 9, 2013 -> 11:36 AM) I think that is being overlooked today. The Packers defense is getting grilled in the media, as they probably should, but the 49ers defense was no better. Packers put up 28 points against them and did it with only 21:28 time of possession. I have a feeling these two teams will meet again in the playoffs. Probably will...and honestly, with these rules, and with the talent at QB both teams have, I wouldn't even say the defenses played poorly. I thought the game was well played. Did these same media people watch the Sunday night game? Now THAT was some horrendous football.
  5. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Sep 9, 2013 -> 09:08 AM) Oh ya, it's definitely not panic time in GB, they played arguably the best team in football on the road, there was just so many holes in the defense yesterday, those have to get sewn up. Good luck with that. I thought GB played about as well as you can play SF right now...I've heard a few Bears fans arguing that GB looked like s*** yesterday. I was very impressed with their performance. Yeah, they had to play zone coverage, but what is the alternative? For now, you're going to have to make CK beat you with his arm, and hope that he's off that day. In the meantime, they scored 28 points on a SF defense that usually is going to give up half that or less. If I was a GB fan, I'd be pretty pleased with the gameplan, the effort, and the execution...SF is just incredibly good right now.
  6. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 9, 2013 -> 10:24 AM) I'd say very few. The place where it gets highlighted the most is the NBA because teams will bench players and play rookies down the stretch, and it seems very rare for the teams which do that to actually get the #1 pick. In the NFL, teams may bench a starter, but since contracts aren't guaranteed, every single player out on the field is playing for a contract the next year, so they'll play as hard as they possibly can. In MLB, I don't even think "tanking" makes sense. Half the time when rosters expand in September, losing teams put young guys out on the field and suddenly find that they're winning more games because the young, non-ready guys actually are trying to earn roster spots and perform while the veterans they replaced stopped caring. The key distinction being that the White Sox have shown no inclination of "tanking" it. This is a ridiculous debate (if you may even call it that) over what fans "should" be cheering for.
  7. I said this a few times in the other thread, but I guess I will say it again. Do we all realize that the White Sox are going to do what they are going to do, regardless of what anyone here thinks? If we can establish that, I think it makes it even more clear how silly it is to insult another fan for cheering for whatever they want to cheer for. Yes, I understand this is a message board, and if we're not here to talk about things beyond our control, then we may as well not post about anything...but this has gotten ridiculous. Folks that still want us to win: The fans cheering for losses can't actually make the Sox lose, no matter what they post here! Folks that want us to win only if the catalysts of said wins are the future core of the ballclub: Who knows what effects the remaining few weeks of the season will have on anyone moving forward? Folks that want us to lose every game remaining: The fans still cheering for us to win can't actually make the Sox win, no matter what they post here! Everyone remain civil...
  8. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Sep 8, 2013 -> 05:47 PM) It was soft but it was 100% the right call. The rule might suck but that's how the game is nowadays. Yeah, I just can't wait til a qb jukes someone by pretending to go out of bounds and then cutting it back inside...
  9. QUOTE (Jake @ Sep 8, 2013 -> 04:53 PM) Missed the end of that game, but Packers fans on my facebook are b****ing about officiating They got screwed on an offsetting penalty call in the first half which was a dead ball foul and should have been 4thbdown; instead, the officials had them replay 3rd down and the Niners ended up scoring a td.
  10. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Sep 8, 2013 -> 01:24 PM) Such a bs call on that late hit to setup the jets but that was funny. I agree...I HATE. That call...if you're going to call that you have to allow the qb to get destroyed when he cuts it back inside
  11. Ray Lewis is far better on Sunday NFL Countdown than I expected.
  12. QUOTE (Jake @ Sep 7, 2013 -> 09:18 PM) Meetings for work, class Hah, everyone in our company has their phones out in our meetings...I usually have two out
  13. QUOTE (Jake @ Sep 6, 2013 -> 06:14 PM) I like having a watch when I know I'll be in a setting in which it is inappropriate to check my phone frequently That is like when, in church?
  14. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 7, 2013 -> 04:10 PM) So you're saying he wouldn't make a great starting pitcher. Wow. And his slider was a plus pitch last year. I don't think he's ever going to be a good starter. I'd trade him as soon as he gets on a little roll...
  15. QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Sep 7, 2013 -> 02:42 PM) I think it's just the timing of the failures that we cheer on. If the Sox were tied, I would have been rooting for Reed to dominate. Or if we were losing already, I wouldn't be happy about anyone's bad defense. But in the last inning and winning, I'm completely good with failure, no matter who it is. I think at some point, you have to worry about the failures. I don't want Reed blowing saves. I don't want our young hitters failing in big situations. What I don't mind is Ax failing or Keppinger sucking. Now that we're playing some of what we hope will be the next core, I think it hurts when they absolutely suck, even in the long run.
  16. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 6, 2013 -> 01:07 PM) Would you do Santiago for him? And Milwaukee would not, at least not now. Maybe in a few years. Edit: Freudian slip...Toronto I mean.
  17. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Sep 6, 2013 -> 11:33 AM) I don't think either one of those two would be enough, but if you include Beckham I think you can make something work. That seems like too much to me, but if the Giants included a C+ prospect, give or take, I think it would be perfect. I get the sense that Beckham is never going to be traded as a complimentary piece like that...at least not in the next year or two.
  18. Pence is actually who A Garcia is really reminding me of, which doesn't make me particularly happy.
  19. A few years ago I failed an emissions test here in Nevada. They gave me the code that came up, and I did some google research and determined that it was some temperature sensor gauge was off. I was able to research how to fix that and order about $18 worth the parts. I think used youtube videos to see exactly how to replace the gauge. Saved me about $450, and knowing what the code was was the key piece of information necessary to fix it.
  20. QUOTE (lostfan @ Sep 5, 2013 -> 09:42 PM) Guess who was set to take Peyton Manning in his fantasy draft before having him snatched on the pick before me, and now has him starting against me this week and is getting sodomized by 70 points? Yeah... FML Hah, I have Peyton, Welker and D Thomas in one of our casual Soxtalk leagues...113 points between the three
  21. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Sep 5, 2013 -> 02:34 PM) Not sure what those would do other than cause more problems for Tyler. First he sucks at baseball, then he's forever alone. It was something along the lines of your spunk having mystical healing properties...
  22. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Sep 5, 2013 -> 02:06 PM) Skin was cut, blood was soaked up with gauze. No details other than that. I heard he was looking for you and your magical socks, Wite...
  23. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Sep 5, 2013 -> 12:48 PM) He's a Seahawks fan. That's terrible even for a Seachickens fan...
  24. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Sep 5, 2013 -> 12:46 PM) The thing is, there just aren't a lot of guys with a 5:1 K/BB that are ever highly successful. That's too little contact and too much bad pitch swinging. That's something that can and almost certainly will improve, especially from a young player, but something closer to Starling Marte's .282/.343/.443 is probably more likely with those peripherals, especially once he starts actually hitting for power. If he can be the defender and baserunner that Marte is, than a 4-5 WAR player is OK by me. I will admit, I am not particularly in love with how he looks out there fielding...
  25. QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Sep 5, 2013 -> 11:58 AM) Right, generally speaking, it's pointless to will him into being anything but a high K/low BB guy, but you gotta hit a tons of bombs to make 24/5 work with a .300ish BABIP. And it's not because walks are good or K's are bad, but because they are by products of an approach. It's not that we want him to walk, it's that we want him to take bad pitches and swing at good ones. Unless he turns into Vlad...then he can swing at whatever the hell he wants
