  1. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Sep 20, 2013 -> 06:53 AM) It was fairly obvious watching the game last night which team had an NFL coach that has 10+ years of experience and which had a rookie head coach with a very explosive system. I think it goes to show you how much parity there is in professional sports and how the smallest things can cause ripples, either negative or positive, that manifest themselves in major ways over the course of a season. I think it also shows us all how important depth can be, and how adding a few solid players into important roles can cascade down throughout a lineup or roster. It seems like rarely is a team as good as it looks or as bad as it looks.
  2. Or just keep the 5 until the 6 comes out?
  3. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Sep 18, 2013 -> 08:17 PM) Personally I think the Chiefs, Dolphins, and Ravens are all more likely to win the wild card than Indy. There was a lot of smoke and mirrors behind their 11-5 record last year, but I guess I'm in the minority. Time will tell. They did almost lose to the Raiders at home in week 1...
  4. QUOTE (lostfan @ Sep 18, 2013 -> 05:53 PM) I think I missed the meeting where everyone declared Trent Richardson and his 3.5 ypc as a top 5 running back in the NFL that you build a franchise around. I'd like to see you be a running back for the Browns in that offense.
  5. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Sep 18, 2013 -> 02:31 PM) Got to hope to ride Royal I picked up Royal after week 1, kept him on my bench in week 2 (ouch). This week he's got Tennessee, who's been pretty stingy so far...but it's Royal or Edelman...I'm thinking Royal will get some special attention this week from the Tenn defense and I've got to think the Pats are going to come out and score points coming off a 10 day layoff...
  6. Just wondering...what exactly is the swipe pattern? Is there a way to customize the swipe or something?
  7. Hah, that was hilarious. I actually thought the writing was pretty good, despite a few ticky-tack things. As for holding on to Championships, what the hell else are we supposed to do? We are sports fans.
  8. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 18, 2013 -> 11:43 AM) Trading desks love it. it is quicker than picking up the phone and trying to get someone to answer at the other end. Yeah, and in our industry they use it to schedule the energy around the grid too, which can be an absolute chore if you're trying to do it verbally. IM's are easier than sending emails as well.
  9. QUOTE (chw42 @ Sep 18, 2013 -> 11:16 AM) People (especially corporations) still use AIM? Yes, our company uses Microsoft Lync, but the trading floor has been given permission to utilize AIM for trading. They actually do an awful lot of big deals over AIM, although we make them do the confirms over recorded phone lines.
  10. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 18, 2013 -> 11:16 AM) I don't remember where it is but there is a way to turn on logging in that program, if that helps. Yeah, but it still allows the user to modify or delete the messages, I believe.
  11. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Sep 18, 2013 -> 11:04 AM) Microsoft Lync does that I need a product that can monitor and save AIM messages specifically. That is the IM client that the energy trading folks use.
  12. Any of you guys know of any good corporate instant messaging applications for monitoring and archiving IMs?
  13. Great article about what the Pirates have implemented throughout their Organization to increase defensive efficiency. Link
  14. QUOTE (chw42 @ Sep 16, 2013 -> 11:37 AM) You mean Jennings right? Yep, my bad.
  15. QUOTE (Jake @ Sep 16, 2013 -> 09:01 AM) I'm not worried about the turnovers. Our offense looks competent, even when it is unsuccessful. Our three and outs look better than our offense has looked in years. I can't say whether it's going to be a great offense, but it doesn't suck. Very encouraging. Our D looked vulnerable yesterday at times against a bad offense, so let's hope that gets shored up. No D-line presence whatsoever. I guess I saw the game a little differently than you guys...I wouldn't call the Vikings offense "bad." They do have one of the best rb's of all time on it, and a pretty solid WR in Bennett. Rudolph isn't a bad TE either. Are they are greatest show on turf? No, but they do the things they do do pretty well, and that can be difficult to stop late in games. The game plan for Minnesota is knocking them out early, so you can load up the box against their run and not care about whether they hit those short to mid-range completions or not. And realistically, we should have knocked them out early, but for some pretty rotten luck.
  16. QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Sep 16, 2013 -> 08:56 AM) Cutler looks much better with Trestman, but he still turns the ball over way too much. He has 4 turnovers already this year and hasn't played a road game yet. I guess that just part of his game that you have to deal with. He is certainly very Favre light... But I agree...our offense has an actual method to its madness now...I am very pleased with what I see...although Jay has slowly matured...yesterday's red zone int was his first in a few years, I believe.
  17. QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Sep 16, 2013 -> 08:38 AM) I think that's the best possible plan. No idea if that's what he'll do though Well he will obviously be limited by what opportunities are available, but the fact that he pulled off that three team deal in basically his first big move makes me feel like he will be willing to get creative.
  18. QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Sep 16, 2013 -> 08:35 AM) Do you guys really think we should sign Shin Soo Choo? 1. He'll be 32 2. He has always been injury prone 3. He will likely cost something like 5/$100m 4. He plays the same position as one of the only "building block" position players we have in the entire organization I really think that Hahn is going to be a bit ahead of the curve in terms of paying players for past performance. I am anticipating him trying to sign Abreu and trying to trade for some pre-arbitration guys who may be blocked or need a change of scenery.
  19. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 15, 2013 -> 10:45 AM) Actually it'd be a helluva lot closer with the defense setup IMO, and a large portion of the remainder is Paul Konerko getting old. If you predicted that coming into this season, congratulations, I'd love to see the post where you suggested he needed traded and replaced. If you don't have that, just go away and celebrate. Congratulations, you got a 90+ loss team, you must be so happy. I will admit, I pretty much predicted this mess... Well, not this bad, I suppose...this has been the least I have ever watched a White Sox team in my entire life...and after reflecting on that this weekend, I must say, unless they get the second coming of Mike Trout with that 3rd pick, it will have not been even close to worth it to be this freaking miserable. I hope this doesn't happen again for a long, long time...and then I start looking at next year...ugh
  20. Hah, I just read through the comments from the Bears game...I recognize the frustration, as I was b****ing too, but jeesh, the ire for Jay and the coaching staff in this one...
  21. QUOTE (chw42 @ Sep 14, 2013 -> 06:34 PM) It's weird to see our GM citing advanced metrics. Yeah, it's great to know they are producing this kind of analysis regardless of whether the results are buoyed by Chris or not.
  22. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Sep 13, 2013 -> 02:46 PM) <!--quoteo(post=2867472:date=Sep 13, 2013 -> 04:42 PM:name=iamshack)-->QUOTE (iamshack @ Sep 13, 2013 -> 04:42 PM) <!--quotec-->From what I understand, Thayer Evans has a pretty lengthy record of going after OK State due to his ties to Oklahoma. I'm not sure who was breaking the story about Ohio State a few years ago, but this guy has somewhat unanimously been portrayed as a hack writer. Jason Whitlock is the only one who claimed all of the above. Dohrman (co-author of the SI article) was heavily involved in the OSU article last year. Manziel, the SEC players in the yahoo article. All small ripples with zero momentum. It's comical to me. I've read many, many people, including many of the ex-players he quoted, as saying he tricked and bamboozled them, misquoted them, paraphrased and took their statements out of context, recorded conversations without their permission, initially told them he wanted to talk to them under a completely different premise, etc. Dohrman, from all accounts, is supposedly an outstanding author, however. To your point though, Rock, the whole Ohio State crackdown certainly looks more and more ridiculous each and every day, as a result of the Penn State disaster as well as others. And I do believe that the timing hurt...people are tired of this nonsense now because they realize it is becoming all about sensationalizing things all for the sake of making money, rather than any actual desire to improve things, so had the Ohio State story come now as opposed to a few years ago, yes, I agree, it would have received much less condemnation and shock value.
  23. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Sep 13, 2013 -> 01:50 PM) I think its more interesting that this year people are attacking the media and saying kids should be getting paid when last year trading your possessions for tats and money were the worst thing any kid could every do. From what I understand, Thayer Evans has a pretty lengthy record of going after OK State due to his ties to Oklahoma. I'm not sure who was breaking the story about Ohio State a few years ago, but this guy has somewhat unanimously been portrayed as a hack writer.
  24. QUOTE (MEANS @ Sep 13, 2013 -> 05:50 AM) I can't recall but did the Thursday night games start this soon after the opening night thursday game last year? I saw the schedule shows 13 Thursday night games this year! The Bears played week 2 against the Packers on Thursday night last year.
  25. QUOTE (Brian @ Sep 12, 2013 -> 01:47 PM) I could back this up. Even after the Packers won the Super Bowl, Skip liked Sanchez more. Skip or Colin?
