QUOTE (farmteam @ Aug 12, 2013 -> 09:58 AM) I liked the inning where they had all four on as well, but that's because it meant it was the one inning I got to hear Paciorek. I have grown to like the Twins team of Dick Bremer and Blyeven though. They're solid. Bremer is as big of a homer as Hawk is, and can be really annoying when we are heated rivals of the Twins BB is very good. I enjoy Wimpy no matter who he is paired with, even though he generally is afraid to be very critical of anyone. His sense of humor is very similar to mine, so I'm always giggling when he is on the broadcast. Stone is pretty good at adapting to his partner, as he has run the gamut of broadcast partners throughout his career.
-
Well he hasn't even pitched yet. We're still paying his salary even. I don't think a whole lot can be determined until he actually returns from the injury.

QUOTE (Marty34 @ Aug 11, 2013 -> 05:50 PM) There are a lot of moving parts with this strategy, but what does a Kendry Morales signing accomplish? If the Sox have a payroll floor for next year make good use of it by getting prospects who might be on the next good Sox team. Oh I agree about signing veterans at this point, unless its a guy that's still young and fits our needs perfectly. But there's no reason to just throw money away! I like HH's idea of front loading deals if we really need a place to spend the money.
-
QUOTE (Marty34 @ Aug 11, 2013 -> 05:11 PM) Not at all. What free agent are you going to pick up for $40M over the next two years that makes the Sox a contender? C'mon, Marty...you can't go around paying $40 million for prospects unless they are absolute blue chippers, and no team is going to give up two or more of them so they can acquire BJ Upton. This just isn't realistic. I get what you're saying, but I think it would be extremely difficult to find that deal, and then even more remote that such a deal would actually work out for you...
-
QUOTE (bbilek1 @ Aug 11, 2013 -> 10:46 AM) That is not what he said. So we're going to eat $40 million for a few prospects, essentially? That's ridiculously stupid. That destroys the whole point of acquiring prospects instead of just signing proven players.
-
QUOTE (Marty34 @ Aug 11, 2013 -> 08:43 AM) You think a team would be willling to give the Sox a couple of prospects if they could get B.J. Upton for 4y/$20M? I think some team might. You think the Braves are going to give us good prospects to take BJ Upton after one year of signing him? Good luck.

QUOTE (Marty34 @ Aug 11, 2013 -> 07:55 AM) I agree, but I don't think Hahn is going to wait for the draft. I think the short-term plan is try to find a bad contract or two and get 3 or 4 more prospects. If they can get another everyday player or two by doing that I think they'll be in pretty good shape with the payroll going back down to ~$40M in 2016. I don't understand what the point of taking other bad contracts is when we just dumped our own relatively decent contracts.

QUOTE (Kalapse @ Aug 10, 2013 -> 07:57 PM) 93 wins, likely looking at a wild card spot in that scenario.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 10, 2013 -> 04:43 PM) Go ahead and blast me, but why didn't we pick up this Maxwell guy the Royals picked up?? He reminds me of a very young Jermaine Dye. He's not so young anymore...but we actually did try to get him from Washington several years back, if my memory serves me correctly.
-
QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 10, 2013 -> 04:59 PM) You mean he swings too hard to be an absolute stud? Or what are you saying? If he's known as Little Miggy he should copy Miggy more. No, I mean he doesn't lay off enough pitches. Magglio had pretty solid plate discipline if I remember correctly.
-
Well, just for the record, as much as I never liked Dayan, I like what I see out of Garcia. He'll probably never be an absolute stud because of the aggressiveness, but I think the Maggio comparison is a good one minus the plate discipline. He does have a bit more speed than Magglio had though.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 10, 2013 -> 01:07 PM) How long are you willing to give Viciedo? At this point, may as well give him the rest of this season and next. He has little to no trade value and we have no one else to give the PA's to.
-
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 10, 2013 -> 11:32 AM) If Viciedo, Phegley, and Garcia can do what they're capable of next year, this could be a cooking offense. Personally though I'm expecting all 3 of them to strugglle mightily to the point where people here want them all released by June. Jeesh, give it up already. I think people are going to accept that there are different priorities now and be a little more patient. Hell, half the people won't even be watching anyway.

QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 9, 2013 -> 08:07 PM) I thought it was interesting that he made no mention of trying to field a significantly better team in 2014. How often do you think guys in the Sox org read this site? -

As much as I hate Bernstein, he is by far the most qualified member of the Chicago media to interview Hahn. -

QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 9, 2013 -> 07:54 PM) For those that didn't listen to the Hahn interview, he flat out said the Sox are rebuilding. Yeah, said he doesn't care what people want to call it. Thank you. -

QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 9, 2013 -> 08:02 PM) He's incredible, and one of the biggest reasons 2014 make sense for rebuilding is that it's not realistic to think you can compete with this Tigers team next year. Yes sir...we are of one mind lately -

QUOTE (flavum @ Aug 9, 2013 -> 07:45 PM) Here's that Hahn interview... http://chicago.cbslocal.com/audio/986-670-...-interviews#986 Thanks! Surprised to hear Hahn refer to a particular type of fan as a "meatball" fan -

QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 9, 2013 -> 07:35 PM) Anyone have a recap of the 2nd part of the Hahn/Bernstein convo today? I heard the first part, and something that stood out was that Hahn definitely made it seem like the Sox were going to use some of their money to bring in scouts from other teams that they can offer them more money. Yay! He's been reading my posts! -
