  1. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 23, 2012 -> 04:02 PM) If they were willing to give up Turner (and with the prospects they have in their system), I'm surprised they didn't aim higher and try to get Josh Johnson. They might not have wanted JJ due to the injury/performance concerns.
  2. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jul 23, 2012 -> 12:08 PM) And most likely dangerous stuff for your body. Yeah, well then I can't eat or drink anything anymore.
  3. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 23, 2012 -> 10:53 AM) Just for reference sake, Josh Hamilton is hitting .156 since the ASB, and .164 in July, after .223 in June (OPS's of .754/.569 respectively). He was in the third spot in the Texas line up. Yeah, doesn't mean they are any less dumb than we are.
  4. QUOTE (Reddy @ Jul 23, 2012 -> 10:46 AM) if it's sweet and zero cal doesn't that mean it has artificial sweeteners? you seem to know your s*** - what are your thoughts on those? Yes, it has artificial sweeteners.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 23, 2012 -> 10:49 AM) It isn't idealism. I have done it. I'll bet you were getting f***ed out of a lot more money than Ross is, too.

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Jul 23, 2012 -> 09:40 AM) But that's the understanding up front. It's pretty much the understanding with startup companies too.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 23, 2012 -> 09:40 AM) I am a firm believer that apathy enables. Saying nothing just makes it easier for the next guy to get screwed. And I am saying it is really easy for you guys to get all idealistic about this. But look at it in reality from his perspective. The amount of $ and the risk posed to his career do not warrant him playing the role of hero here. If he wants, he can go to his supervisor and tell them he believes it is illegal for him to not be paid for his overtime hours, and that they either need to pay him for those hours if they expect him to work them, or he will refuse to work any hours beyond 40.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jul 23, 2012 -> 10:23 AM) Even the rallied upon Enron whistleblower went years without being hired. Luckily she can do speaking gigs, but the sad truth is, it is frowned upon. If you have a problem with the job, move on somewhere else. Start-ups operate in a different world and there is a whole new set of risk involved when you work for one. All that said, you deserve to be paid. If the company still isn't making payroll, then things happen. That is a sign of a cast strapped start up. Maybe it makes it through, maybe it doesn't. It all depends on how much you believe in management and the product, etc. If you don't, run, run, run. Yes, I agree. I worked for a startup for close to a year without making a dime. I did it because I did believe in the product, and I knew if it worked, I would be in a position I would never be able to just walk in to had it not been a startup company. Unfortunately my gamble did not pay off. But you live and you learn.

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Jul 23, 2012 -> 10:22 AM) Not being paid market rate =/= not being paid at all. There are plenty of law clerks that don't get paid at all. The legal field exploits the law students' need for experience by hiring them as unpaid interns or grossly underpaying them.

Ok, I recognize this is wrong of them, but I am just going to say I think you guys are taking this a bit more seriously than I think it warrants. This stuff is going on all over the place. Look at the way law firms treat their clerks...hah, this is nothing compared to that.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 23, 2012 -> 09:13 AM) Honestly it is not. Read the posts he has made about this company. They have lied to him. They weren't paying him, and now they are cheating him out of OT. I have...I am the one that stuck up for Ross when the initial reaction by folks on here was that he was whining again. I told him the way he was being treated was bs.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 23, 2012 -> 09:11 AM) Workplace protections are there for a reason. And it isn't just start ups. I had a multi-billion dollar company try that with me. Yes, I understand. But this isn't Chrysler or something. It is a fledgling startup company. Best case scenario for him is he goes through this process of reporting them, gets blackballed by everyone anyone in the company knows, and gets his check for $300 bucks. Yay! Not worth it.

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Jul 23, 2012 -> 09:11 AM) Cheat, lie and steal? f*** that, there's no future in an abusive company. Oh come on now...don't you think that is being a little melodramatic?

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Jul 23, 2012 -> 09:02 AM) Whistleblower protection yes, especially if you report it to a federal agency. Yeah, and we all know how well that usually works out. I am sure there are a ton of whistleblowers that go on to have wonderful futures in the companies they reported...

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 23, 2012 -> 09:03 AM) Reading the posts he has made about this place, they suck. They are screwing kids over by the boatload. They skip paychecks, they make mandatory OT, and they don't pay it. They need to be reported. It's a startup company. This is what they do. Apparently they are just too dumb to deal with the HR part of things.

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Jul 23, 2012 -> 08:55 AM) They're already breaking the law and stealing money from him. Yeah, but you have to consider the real-life alternatives. Is it better to get paid for the 40 hours a week he does work or be unemployed?

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 23, 2012 -> 09:41 AM) It is illegal. Call and report them. I wouldn't do that...then they'll just pay him his money and fire him and hire a bunch of unpaid "interns" instead. You have to make a decision as to whether you think there is any kind of future with this company or not. If yes, then keep working hard. If not, get the hell out of there first chance you get.
  18. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 23, 2012 -> 07:57 AM) LIRIANO IS SPANISH FOR TORN ELBOW LIGAMENT! I've pissed in all 10,000 of Minnesota's lakes!
  19. QUOTE (Leonard Zelig @ Jul 22, 2012 -> 09:00 PM) Have you tried Nuun? I have not. Just googled it...looks very interesting...so you dissolve those things in water? Looks like they run about 50 cents for each tablet...not too bad I suppose. I'll definitely check them out.
  20. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 22, 2012 -> 07:10 PM) This seems like as good of a place as any to have all of the hater talk. Is this the end of the season? Have we seen the high point of 2012 for the Sox? Or is this just a bump in the road? Will the Sox play better as they get some of their pitchers back? Is Detroit on their run, or is this just a temporary hot streak, and they will go back to how they played the first half of the season? Bump in the road. Let's weather the storm. We need to get a few guys going again, but this team is balanced. Get some guys back healthy, settle in a bit, and then lets go on a roll of our own.
  21. QUOTE (Jake @ Jul 22, 2012 -> 07:07 PM) I think it tastes good Doesn't have anything bad for you in it, but I also wouldn't go in expecting any performance benefits. You'll be hydrated a little better but it is not an electrolyte drink -- as a calorie free beverage it should be an excellent way to feel like you're getting something tastier than water without the "guilt" of drinking a sugary beverage. It makes sense as a non-activity compliment to the Gatorade line if one was to live the company's ideal of consuming their products in every applicable setting. There are small amounts of vitamins, but the forms of those are not stated and the amounts aren't particularly high anyways. Basically, if this drink is making or breaking your daily vitamin intake there is a problem This is akin to drinking a diet, non-caffeinated soda without the carbonation that can turn some people off. So? Drink as your heart desires and enjoy the yumminess. I've been drinking it basically just as an every day beverage. I seem to have difficulty with staying hydrated enough when I am home (I drink lots of water at work for some reason...maybe I should just pony up and get a water cooler . I don't drink soda or really much juice even, but don't really care for the taste of my tap water. Glad to hear it isn't going to kill me (at least to your knowledge).
  22. QUOTE (Jake @ Jul 22, 2012 -> 03:51 PM) Carbohydrates undoubtedly improve workouts. Electrolytes are excellent and while you may not always need them, there's really no such thing as too much. B vitamins have very poor oral bioavailability (ever heard of B12 injections?) but almost nobody that eats meat has a deficiency. I don't know that folks should be drinking Gatorade just casually throughout the day and simple sugars aren't necessarily the best choice in the pre/intra workout application...but they taste better and they work. My personal preference is to drink as few calories as possible but slamming a little packet of Gatorade Prime before a long basketball game doesn't sound like a bad idea to me. Hey Jake...curious as to what your thoughts may be on Propel Zero?
  23. QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ Jul 22, 2012 -> 03:12 PM) LOL since when is Gatorade bad for you to replenish fluids during some sort of workout or activity? People who are very serious about fitness will argue that it contains a lot of sugar and sodium. Part of the issue is that it has become sort of an all-purpose beverage or something used for general hydration instead of water. It is not a good replacement for water. But if you are actually exercising, it does replenish and hydrate you better than water. The sodium content has a purpose...especially if you are in a warm climate, because you lose A LOT of salt.
  24. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jul 22, 2012 -> 12:43 PM) I do not care about a person's personal or religious beliefs. I don't care if you're an adulterer or a racist or whatever. I do care about a 6'4, 240 pound man striking his wife in the face multiple times. I will not cheer this scum at all. And how do you know how she treats him? Maybe she leaves their children in the car in the 100 degree heat while she goes grocery shopping. Maybe she cheats on him with his battery mate. Maybe she is emotionally abusive. From whatever opinions you want, but the fact is, we don't really know these people. Many times you make judgments about people you don't know only to find out you would have never felt that way had you known the entire story. Regardless, I will cheer him on when he is in a White Sox uniform, and be just as happy about the outs he records as those that any of our other pitchers record. And I will cheer just as much.
  25. QUOTE (Reddy @ Jul 22, 2012 -> 01:53 PM) sigh. there are plenty of awesome products out there that don't come from beachbody. i use and eat plenty of them. i never once commented on your diet or your choices. when did i say that drinking a gatorade would kill you? given your description of the product, you're right - it does seem like it would be beneficial for you in those circumstances, and that's all i was asking. good lord. sorry if i've come across as hyper judgmental lately, i'll try and ease off. obviously i'm a fan of beachbody products (because they work - i'm not some mindless zombie slave that latches on to fads). but more than that, i'm excited about all the potential in eating well. doing so is still a relatively new thing for me and I'm developing a passion for it. I thought YH and my conversation was plenty civil but I guess you didn't? I'm pretty sure I conceded to a lot of his points. but whatevs. you'll think what you think and i'll think what i think. there are worse causes to champion than eating healthy and getting in shape. Do you notice that the main point of my original post was about the difference in my stamina between playing basketball when I am in the middle of my P90X routines versus not? The Prime thing was just a sidenote, to which you snarkily replied "isn't it just all sugar?" What else am I to take from that? Just comes off as really patronizing, IMO.
