QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ May 4, 2012 -> 07:17 AM) Getting close to landing a job in Indy. Survived the screening call with HR, phone interview with potential boss, in-person interview with potential boss, and next week have final interview with potential boss and his boss. Good luck! I am in this process as well, actually...I have had a couple companies approach me in recent weeks and I agreed to speak with them...have had the HR calls, the first phone interviews with the boss, and have been told to expect to fly-in for in-person interviews within the next 10 days... I'm experiencing a lot of interest right now because I seem to have a rare combination of skills/experience between this trading/legal background...

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ May 4, 2012 -> 01:50 AM) Another point about Viciedo/Beltre, you can point out that Beltre was the Dodgers starting 3B when he was 19, but you also have to consider that he'd been in the Dodgers organization being developed and groomed as an adolescent by the Dodgers for 4 years by that point in time because he was illegally signed as a 15 year old, and he'd only turned 15 three months prior to being signed. Viciedo was signed as a 19 year old, and 3 months later, he turned 20, thus the age difference between them was 4.5 years between signing dates. And Viciedo wasn't groomed from age 15 and on to hit American pitching; he was playing in Cuba where expectations and the culture of the game itself is quite a bit different. Hell, the culture of Cuba itself is vastly different than that in America...it's no surprise that he took a while to adjust. For some perspective, it will be 18 years on August 12th of this year since the players went on strike and the season was cancelled. Adrian Beltre was signed BEFORE the players went on strike. I love Viciedo and I really do think, Marty, that you are one of the very, very few on this site who does not. He really does have the look of a guy who is going to hit for a lot of power. Thank you Captain Obvious! Wite, I love you. Marty is just stating he doesn't think Viciedo is going to live up to the hype. I respectfully agree with him. It's not a matter of me thinking he won't hit for a lot of power...that much was obvious from the moment everyone saw him...my question is will he actually hit consistently enough. Your point about Beltre is valid...he is definitely an example of someone who took a lot of major league at bats before really reaching his potential. The problem with that approach was by the time he actually appeared to figure it out (ok, I suppose his monster year in 2004 was more than "figuring it out"), the Dodgers had to let him walk because he had reached FA coming off a monster year...

QUOTE (fathom @ May 3, 2012 -> 07:17 PM) Please share stories about baseball players that your target demographic has actually heard of before. That's easily the biggest complaint I'd have about Farmer and Hawk. If most of us "baseball historians" don't even really know who they're talking about, then I can't imagine what casual listeners are thinking. Right...Vin Sculley is 85 years old or something and yet he has a team of researchers who supply him with stories about just about every current player on each roster...now I know Vin himself does not know these things, but the fact that he makes an effort to inform his audience about the players ACTUALLY PLAYING IN TODAY's GAME is quite interesting...and somewhat humorous since you get to hear it presented from his perspective on life.

QUOTE (elrockinMT @ May 3, 2012 -> 08:55 PM) Rios delivers with a two out hit to plate the run. You have to hand it to Alex this year he is turning it around I have to admit that a few times I have been concerned that Alex had fully reverted to his bad habits...but then he goes and COMPLETELY REDEEMS himself! -

QUOTE (CrimsonWeltall @ May 3, 2012 -> 03:26 PM) Took my dog in to the spay and neuter clinic on Tuesday. They call us shortly after we drop her off and tell us they don't want to perform the surgery because she'd riddled with cancer...all over her abdominal wall, spleen, uterus, liver. After two days of grief and sadness that our dog probably won't live a month, we take her to our regular vet for exploratory surgery to figure out how bad it is and how long she has before it kills her. He calls us shortly after he starts the operation to inform us that all her organs look FINE and that all he could find was a couple nodules in her abdominal tissue which are probably nothing (but being tested). He removed them. TLDR: one vet tells us our dog has horrible cancer, two days later another says she's fine That's great news...I guess that's just a reminder to always get a second opinion...Sorry you had to go through that, CW

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ May 2, 2012 -> 12:42 PM) I'm depressed about the Derrick Rose injury. Given the scope and hope for this year's team, it ruined sports for me for a bit. It makes me sad. I know you don't consider yourself a huge NBA fan, so maybe that's why you don't really understand how incredibly huge this injury was. If he pulls his groin again, ok, you shelve him for the series. Having an entire season wasted by an injury that might threaten Rose's career is just awful. I'll b**** about it all I want. I will also b**** about you and your "If the Bulls just start hitting their shots with more consistency, they will score more" type of posts! I probably just need to avoid the thread until the Bulls are unceremoniously removed from this tournament, as I'm admittedly not adding anything. You can make up for it by getting your wife in a bikini...

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ May 3, 2012 -> 08:41 AM) That too. Strikes from the outfield to home. He gallops like a horse in the outfield, too. I've never seen a 19 year old who looks like this. Don't forget your buddy LeBron...

Beltre has been the player he's reminded me of as well. I agree with much of what you said, Wite...I guess it frightens me because these are many of the same things I saw from him 2 years ago when he came up. I do agree with Stone's point last night though that we are starting to see more quality at bats from him on a nightly basis.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 2, 2012 -> 01:09 PM) JPIAA Evan Grant @Evan_P_Grant Jake Peavy wins AL Pitcher of the Month, keeping Rangers from sweeping AL Awards. I heard the Rangers' announcers suggesting Darvish would win it last night...I thought Peavy would win but wasn't sure he would get the nod over Jason Hammel.

QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ May 2, 2012 -> 02:03 PM) Yeah, we've been trying to say no every time we catch her, but aren't able to keep an eye on her 24/7. We hate putting her in the cage during those times (other than sleep time) because she goes absolutely bonkers in there, and she's been better about potty training etc. We put things in other rooms or up high, only things near ground most of the time is furniture, and no moving that. We were thinking about setting up a play pen area with a dog fence or whatever to give her room to roam and be out of the cage, but not be able to get to furniture. Thoughts? Would that work? Or just strictly use the cage for unsupervised times? You could certainly try that...and you could try the bitter apple for things you can't move (the couch)... I've had the same problem with my Dane puppy...it requires a lot of patience and tolerance...

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ May 2, 2012 -> 12:44 PM) I have random dog allergies. I'm allergic to boxers and my in-law's golden but not other goldens. I pump myself full of allergy medication for the cats anyway. Oh alright... Well, since I know you are a big hunter...hah, sorry, I couldn't resist... There are lots of great dogs you could choose in the 40 pound range...40 Pound Dog Breeds Pick a few you like, and then look up local or regional rescue groups for those breeds and see what you can find...

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ May 2, 2012 -> 12:37 PM) Home with a big, fenced yard and a couple of cats. Most likely on the active side. Any allergies in the family?
-
QUOTE (StrangeSox @ May 2, 2012 -> 01:26 PM) Probably medium-ish, 40 lb range. Home with a yard or apartment/condo? Do you want a relatively active dog or a lazier loungier type?

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ May 2, 2012 -> 12:16 PM) We're looking at adopting a dog after we get back from vacation in about 6 weeks. Anyone have recommendations on local shelters/rescue societies? Any idea what size dog you want?

QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ May 2, 2012 -> 11:40 AM) First few weeks no chewing issues, now she loves chewing on the ends of furniture, including table legs and stuff. WTF? She has like 12 toys. How to stop this behavior? I'm going to get some more larger bones in hopes those will curb it, not sure what else to do. The chewing is related to the development of her teeth and gums...it has nothing to do with the chronology of her being adopted by you...(Edit: I should say most likely...it is possible it is a reaction to stress, but given her age, it probably is her teeth and gums) Her baby teeth might be getting ready to fall out or her gums may be aching...it's just part of having a puppy. When you catch her chewing on something she shouldn't be, tell her NO and take it away. Replace it with something she IS allowed to chew on, and when she does, say Good Girl! Repeat forever and ever. Eventually she should be able to learn what is off-limits and what she is allowed to chew on. And DO NOT buy toys shaped like an object you do not want her to chew on....such as a dog toy shaped like a shoe...then she will think your shoes are toys...I've never understood this one... Also, learn from your mistakes and take as much temptation away from her as possible...when you leave put things up high or in an enclosed room she has no access to.

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ May 2, 2012 -> 01:13 AM) No way. Edwin Encarnacion is in his 8th season in the majors. He's a guy who's bad enough defensively that teams want to move him from the position, but whose bat doesn't translate anywhere else, and he's not bad enough defensively that it keeps you from playing him there. He's eclipse a WAR of 2 once, and generally sits in the 1.5 range. The Sox simply can't give up anything from their minor league system for such a marginal upgrade. They may as well stick with Morel in that case and let him work through it, or give a shot to anybody else within the organization. His nickname is "E5"

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ May 2, 2012 -> 06:16 AM) Greg, if someone insulted you personally on this website repeatedly and when confronted by an admin, claimed it was their "wrestling personality" and they were a good guy, would you accept that? AND I just spit out my coffee... Thank you, fine sir! -
QUOTE (Cali @ May 2, 2012 -> 06:57 AM) How were Gordo's hits? Still doing the one handed machete swing and just lucking out or actual solid contact with a nice level swing? He smoked his home run to left...hit it right on the button. Went the other way really nice on his second hit, hit the ball really solidly to right. His third hit was sort of a flare to right which was fairly impressive simply because it was low and on the outside corner.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 1, 2012 -> 11:31 PM) Cabrera and Kipnis aren't going anywhere. Jason Donald and Santana, they're not so good. But they really need to keep Carlos healthy and keep his bat in the line-up. Hannahan's a very good defender and their normal everyday 3B. Santana's not going anywhere either...

QUOTE (Jake @ May 1, 2012 -> 10:50 PM) Santiago is spotting the fastball pretty well, needs to build off that. He wants to get his offspeed stuff over so much, he keeps using it over and over waiting for it to be a strike. Do that s*** in the bullpen and enjoy the fact that hard throwing lefties are successful when they throw fastballs for strikes. Except against righties...
