  1. QUOTE (Gregory Pratt @ Sep 6, 2010 -> 03:36 PM) It's delusional to think that the Wild Card will come out of the central, come on. Fine. Go write a 29 page exposé on some scandal at UIC and leave me to my delusions. Let's go Red Sawx!
  2. Big one tomorrow. Scherzer has been outstanding since his return to the big leagues. Need to scratch out a couple early runs and ride Edwin to victory. Would be a very big way to set the tone for the series and keep our momentum going.
  3. I think Ozzie has done a very solid job lately, especially navigating the minefield that has been our bullpen over the course of the last few weeks. I would have done a few things differently, namely, pitching Danks in the nightcap of the doubleheader against KC a few weeks back, but other than that, I like how he has handled things. Have to be pretty impressed by how he has handled the Manny circus as well. We're now 6-0 on this roadtrip, despite a fairly decimated bullpen still and having to play another twin bill over the weekend against one of the better teams in the League. He's not perfect, but I haven't seen anyone yet who is...
  4. QUOTE (justBLAZE @ Sep 5, 2010 -> 05:55 PM) For the next three days I'm Royals' biggest fan, next to greg. Cheer hard for both Sox the next 3 days too!
  5. Time to start cheering against the Rays! They have a 7 game WC lead on us, but they have 3 with the Red Sox now, then 3 with the Jays, then 3 with the Yankees, then 3 with the Angels, then 4 with the Yankees again. Need the Yanks to take 6 of 7 from them and the Red Sox and Blue Jays to beat them around a bit too. We need to stay hot and hope to get some help from Twins and Rays opponents!
  6. QUOTE (chw42 @ Sep 5, 2010 -> 04:12 PM) He did touch his hand, but he was clearly trying to get out of the way. It was incidental contact. My guess is that the umpire thought he saw something out of the corner of his eye though, because he certainly was not looking at the time. He was looking at Hudson at the time, and must have seen the touch out of his peripheral vision.
  7. And the Twins' luck continues. What a joke, ump. You weren't even looking.
  8. Just a brutal f***ing call by the 3rd base umpire, who said the 3rd base coach touched Michael Young to stop him from running home. The guy wasn't even LOOKING! And the Twins' luck continues.
  9. I think we're going to need to close out at 19-7 here. It's looking like it could take 95 wins unless the Twins hit some major skids on the road. 95 wins also probably puts us in the Wild Card hunt. 7 games back of the Rays. A 12-14 finish puts them at 95 wins.
  10. QUOTE (Benchwarmerjim @ Sep 5, 2010 -> 11:03 AM) Ben Revere called up for AA New Britian, Matt Fox DFAed Wow! How rude! Dude pitches 5 2/3 solid innings for you and you DFA him? Ha, the realities of a pennant race...

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Sep 3, 2010 -> 10:40 AM) Or not: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_China_Study#Criticisms The China Study definitely has some fair criticisms to be made from it, but the bottom line is, there is an almost direct correlation between entering the Western diet into a culture and increased rates of many chronic diseases, the most popular of which is heart disease. The same correlation exists when one removes the Western diet from a culture. The rates of many chronic diseases, including heart disease, decrease significantly. It's certainly not a mystery.

QUOTE (GoodAsGould @ Sep 2, 2010 -> 04:56 PM) Heart disease is a problem around the world, so meh on that. Yeah, it has spread to cultures almost in lock-step as our "Western" diet has. What a coincidence!

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Aug 31, 2010 -> 10:36 AM) If my government were sitting here feeding me stuff that is poisoned, I'd be irate. Heck, people are already irate as to the issues that have been going on with all of the food related illnesses that are happening and how poorly the FDA is controlling and ultimately preventing these problems from happening. Would you? Why do you think it is that the incidence of heart failure and other chronic disease is so great here?
  14. QUOTE (PeavyTime @ Sep 2, 2010 -> 09:00 AM) The White Sox are in Boston. Neither team plays tonight. They should play the first game tonight, cause Friday ain't happening and Saturday doesn't look good either. Aww come on now...it never rains at the ballpark...

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Sep 1, 2010 -> 05:47 PM) Keep hitting the protein and get some recovery drink or drink chocolate milk if you can, it will help tremendously with the soreness. And don't try to overdue it with the diet changes. If you try to change too much at one time, you'll freak out and eat two bags of doublestuff oreo's one night or something. Make changes in moderation...
  16. Well again, it all depends on what Paulie's physical condition is. If there isn't anything looming in the next few years other than just what normally happens when a player reaches his mid-thirties, I don't think there is a whole lot to be afraid of when offering a 2 or 3 year contract. Paulie has always been a player whose skillset ages well. He hits for power, has no speed to lose, and plays a position already where many older sluggers move to late in their careers. He doesn't strike me as someone who is going to see a huge decline in his mid-thirties, and until he can no longer catch up to an above-average fastball, I don't see him declining much at all until he reaches his very late thirties. The question to me isn't so much does he deserve the contract, but more so can we afford to pay him. Unless we move some salary by trading an SP, I just don't see it being possible.
  17. QUOTE (J.Reedfan8 @ Sep 1, 2010 -> 02:35 PM) He doesn't need to ''teach him'' as far as talking to him. Tyler has eyes or he could look at tape. (pitch calls, diffrent situations, etc.) As much as AJ drives me crazy at the plate, I have seen the difference in the way he calls a game and the way Castro does. AJ seems to have a much greater knowledge of what to call and when, and perhaps that comes from the steady playing time he has logged in our division over the course of the last 6 years. It would be nice if he could share some of that knowledge with Tyler.
  18. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Sep 1, 2010 -> 05:08 PM) I love Paulie but the Sox really have to be careful. If they are paying him for the next 3 or 4 seasons for this year, they will ultimately regret it. 4 or 5 months ago, if someone offered the Sox anything for him and his contract, KW would have most likely jumped and no one here would have complained. He's come up huge, probably because its the best he's felt in a while. Odds of that occuring for 3 or 4 more years are probably slim, although it wouldn't shock me if he had another real big season in him after this one. If I were the GM, unless he wanted to give a huge discount from market rate both in salary and years, Paulie is in his final month or hopefully 2 in a White Sox uniform. What is his issue physically other than his thumb? Doesn't he have some kind of chronic hip condition or something?
  19. Well, I got my wish of a waiver-wire bat, albeit later than I would have preferred. Boy oh boy, that month sure did turn out differently than I expected. Let's finish it up strong, boys!
  20. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Sep 1, 2010 -> 04:58 PM) As I understand it, Robin has said he does want to get back into baseball, but he has also said he wants to wait until his kids are off to college before moving and being on the road again. I think Frank mentioned that Robin was taking his daughter to college last weekend, which was why he was not at Frank Thomas Day.
  21. QUOTE (Vance Law @ Sep 1, 2010 -> 02:12 PM) Melton just now says: The Sox have about 165 home runs (they have 155), they may have 200 by the end of the year (they will not). Wants to see the Sox steal bases with more success, thinks they're around 50% (they are at 66%) Thinks Manny will get a standing O in Boston. Also said Manny has gotten 7 or 8 at bats with us and that he walked away from Boston. Ok Melton.
  22. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Sep 1, 2010 -> 01:13 PM) Looking down the road, is it a forgone conclusion that we'll see a picture of Paulie on the wall with a statue of his on the concourse? Yes.
  23. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Sep 1, 2010 -> 01:01 PM) So much for that shot in the arm I thought we'd get after acquiring Manny. The team looks asleep. He's going to have to come up with a big hit late in a game for them to start rallying around him. It's most likely not going to be there on a 12:05 start on a Wednesday.
