  1. Does anyone else just love that Heineken commercial where the guy says "wanna learn how to play golf? Play with old guys. These raisins put it down the middle every time. They used to take our money...ever since Terry here slowed down my swing, I've adjusted to a more mature game. Now I'm taking back some of that cheese." Best commercial....like....ever.
  2. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Aug 4, 2010 -> 07:38 PM) Jackson and Coop appear to have found something together tonight. I hope they make beautiful music together...
  3. QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 4, 2010 -> 07:38 PM) I heard he had 7 a few days ago Brutal.
  4. QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 4, 2010 -> 07:32 PM) It's 9 since ASB, I believe. That can't be right...
  5. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 4, 2010 -> 07:32 PM) Really, I'm flat out unimpressed so far. He has a 96 mph fastball but it's been hit a few times and he's only really gotten a couple of pitches that have hurt people. There's very little sink or cut on his fastball. It's straight. The Slider's been very week. He's thrown less than 5 good ones. Cabrera got 2, Peralta got 1. He's stepped up and gotten Cabrera a couple times, I'll grant him that...but every time he's come up there's been people on. Yeah, well he has increased his gb rate and it is paying dividends. He's going to give up some hits, but how many balls have been hit hard off him? He's made one huge mistake to Cabrera, but other than that, he's just throwing strikes and putting up zeroes. I'm sorry, but that is not bad.
  6. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 4, 2010 -> 07:24 PM) How many hits does he have to give up in 4 innings before you agree he looks bad? Ok, this is where I draw the line. You just want to be right, Balta, because you hate this trade. The guy has given up some hits but also has produced a bunch of dp balls. He has walked no one. He isn't pitching badly, but he's been lucky to keep them off the board.
  7. QUOTE (jphat007 @ Aug 4, 2010 -> 07:24 PM) Wah, Kotsay sucks. Wah, Jackson sucks. Wah Wah Wah. Hey look I fit in now. Umm...
  8. She just said she wished Chase wouldn't have waited when they met!
  9. QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 4, 2010 -> 07:13 PM) You see that a lot though, as pitchers try to aim it cause they know CQ will just let the ball hit him if it's inside. I just love when CQ hits the ball and the OF doesn't even move.
  10. QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 4, 2010 -> 07:04 PM) Kotsay's job security? Yep
  11. QUOTE (justBLAZE @ Aug 4, 2010 -> 06:57 PM) Paulie's throwing hand isn't all right. At least the Tigers announcers pointed it out few times already. And guess what that is?
  12. QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 4, 2010 -> 06:31 PM) Good AB by Kotsay, another 60 feet, and it's gone. The only thing he's wearing is out my f***ing patience...
  13. QUOTE (Soxy @ Aug 4, 2010 -> 04:56 PM) Best approach, imo. Darn you women!!! I don't have time for these games!
  14. QUOTE (J.Reedfan8 @ Aug 4, 2010 -> 04:26 PM) Meh.. that'll just make me (and maybe even her seeing it) feel desperate actually. I'm too cool for that. If I was in his shoes, I'd just wait till the softball game, talk to her face to face and get the digits. But... I play it cool mamas. So Ger...if you had a really hot chick reach out through a friend of yours to get your number, you would honestly say "eh, too desperate, not interested." ?
  15. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Aug 4, 2010 -> 05:15 PM) Would you guys think less of me if I tracked Carlos Gonzalez down and proposed to him? I'm still waiting for you to explain to me how, if he is so amazing, he can't hit for s*** away from Coors Field?
  16. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 4, 2010 -> 04:20 PM) The other shade of green we have really doesn't look green to him. Much better. I didn't know he was colorblind.
  17. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 4, 2010 -> 04:12 PM) There's this blogger over at Soxnet.net who seems ok at it... I wish he would use a different shade of green so I don't have to strain to read his "sarcasm."
  18. QUOTE (Thad Bosley @ Aug 4, 2010 -> 03:59 PM) It doesn't seem like the media has taken Ozzie to task on his (over)use of Kotsay whatsoever. Why is that? You know why? Because our baseball media guys have always been about 15 years behind the times. They don't even realize how bad he is because they probably don't even look at statistics. They've always just deferred to whatever the manager says or the GM says and that is that. If Ozzie says Mark is a good ballplayer, then Phil Rogers writes that he is just unlucky. Cowley will tweet some smartass joke about it, but he'll never outwardly question Ozzie with actual numbers. I don't know why one of the media outlets can't just hire one sharp kid who understands at least some advanced metrics and can present a reasonably intelligent case to the fans of this City.
  19. -105 tonight....wish I didn't lose $500 the other night playing 3 card poker...
  20. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Aug 4, 2010 -> 02:14 PM) I still say wait until the game. It's only a few days away and you don't risk anything that way. It's not like she's going to fall in love with someone in the meantime and go elope. No, but she may think it is common for him to randomly make out with chicks when he is drunk and not follow up on it (and whether or not that is the case, he doesn't want her to think that). I'd get her number from the friend, if it is indeed easy to get. Text her and say "Hey, got your number from so and so, hope that's cool. Wanted to see if you wanted to grab a drink and see a movie, because I didn't want to wait all the way until Monday to see you again." I think that shows that you are interested, will take the initiative, are confident, but not a creepster.
  21. QUOTE (knightni @ Aug 4, 2010 -> 01:07 PM) Math-wise I agree, sports betting/odds/percentages, I do not. Teams only sweep 25% of the time, because a split is easier to get. The starting pitchers are a larger contributing factor than an equation. We're not talking about betting. We're talking about a sweep, or a split. No other outcomes. And if two teams play two games, there are only 4 different possible outcomes. And for our purposes, two of those outcomes equal the same thing, and two of them equal the other thing. 2/4 =1/2=50% Edit: I think where we are not seeing eye to eye is that you are considering the two splits to be the same outcome, but not the two sweeps to be the same outcome. Why do you not consider the two sweeps to be the same, when we are simply looking at a percentage of doubleheaders that are split versus swept?
  22. QUOTE (knightni @ Aug 4, 2010 -> 12:48 PM) Yes they are. As are Sox losing game 2 and Tigers winning game 2, Sox win 2, Det lose 2. Both #3 and #4 happening equal a split series between the same two teams. Two different types of splits remain a split, nonetheless. So, only one result - a split - can occur, no matter who wins what game. Whereas, #1 or #2 happening, while both being sweeps, they produce separate results. Tigers win 2, White Sox win 2. Of course, their balance is Sox lose 2, Det lose 2, however we are discussing odds, not math principles. But for the purposes of the argument, it does not matter which team sweeps. I agree with and understand what you're saying if you want to bet on a specific result here. I made the same initial mistake. We are only concerned with splits or sweeps here though, irregardless of which teams do the sweeping. A Tigers sweep or a White Sox sweep is the same result!
  23. I had no idea so many of these young guys were married. Most shocking? Zack Greinke and Clay Buccholz scoring hot chicks.
