  1. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Aug 3, 2010 -> 06:26 PM) True, but I don't see the usual suspects (Yankees, Red Sox, Mets, etc.) making a claim on Manny. No, but I could see some of the unusual suspects claiming him...it's a risk when we need him so badly...
  2. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Aug 3, 2010 -> 05:16 PM) That's a lot of money to most teams. Hell, that's like 7% percent of our payroll. IMO, very few teams would even consider claiming a player worth that amount and even less would claim Manny. Yes, but it only takes one...

QUOTE (Sox72 @ Aug 3, 2010 -> 06:10 PM) 5'10" 180 s/w/m That's pretty similar to me...I'm about 5'11" 170... If you do a lot of reps with the bands, you'll add strength...and when you do have the $ for weights, you'll be more prepared to go for more bulk. I would increase your reps.

QUOTE (Sox72 @ Aug 3, 2010 -> 05:04 PM) Ha. Very true...... What is your height and weight?
  5. I disagree. I think there is a chance they would. From what has been reported, the Dodgers were not looking to trade Manny and they were trying to complete other deals. Additionally, they thought they were still in this thing. But as they continue to lose and fall back, they'll look to possibly lose some of this payroll, and Manny will be much more of a burden on them then he was just last week. Once they put him on waivers, any team willing to take on the $6-7 million can put in a claim. All they have to say is we'll give you nothing for him. And the Dodgers will have to just give him up for nothing but the salary relief. Now I'm not sure it would be the Rays, but I think there are a few teams out there that could possibly claim him. Especially a team like the Rays, who not only needs him themselves, but has to be thinking they'll possibly have to face him in the ALDS if we end up with him. I don't think it's even a 30% certainty that he gets claimed, but it's a risk...

QUOTE (Sox72 @ Aug 3, 2010 -> 04:54 PM) Yeah, probably not much to tell me. I just gotta get the dumbbells. I would do more reps, but I'm trying to go for size over definition. Well doing more reps of less weight is ALWAYS better than doing less reps of less weight! You only do less reps if you have the option of doing less reps with MORE weight.

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Aug 3, 2010 -> 04:53 PM) Going for a run right now, working on getting that lean s*** going man. I'm down to a 32 in waist for the first time in a long time, its crazy. Yeah, I have some 31 jeans I bought...I haven't worn that size since I was a soph in HS...
  8. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Aug 3, 2010 -> 04:47 PM) No one is going to claim Manny. I would normally say pass, but anything to get Kotsay out of the line up. I don't understand why Viciedo cannot DH. IMO, Manny would be huge for us in the Postseason. Having him in the middle of that lineup, as opposed to even Viciedo, would be worth the $3-4 million it's probably going to cost us to take him on. There is a lot of transition ahead for this team next year. I want to win it this year while we have a chance. I think getting Manny would increase our chances exponentially.
  9. QUOTE (SoxFan562004 @ Aug 3, 2010 -> 04:46 PM) it's worth noting that the same B & B sources who said "only White Sox" are also saying they would not be claiming him, he has to clear and they'll work something out. Yeah, we have been talking about this since Saturday....I don't think anyone would claim him, although I think the White Sox should claim him to avoid the crazy Rays from claiming him. I think it's worth the $7 million hit if you can assure yourself that you or no one else will get the player. However, if that deferred money comes into play, you're talking $25+ million owed to him...no one can claim him then, and LA would be free to try and work something out with whomever will agree to take on the most $.
  10. QUOTE (Kalapse @ Aug 3, 2010 -> 05:36 PM) Wait, so the topic of conversation around here of late has been the $31M that Manny deferred over a 16 year span starting in 2011 when he signed his RED SOX extension, right? What about the extra $25M left in deferred money that the DODGERS gave him in 2009 that runs through 2013? # for 2009, Ramirez receives $10M in 2009 and $15M in 3 installments of $5M paid each June 30, 2010 to 2012 # if Ramirez does not opt out, he receives $5M in 2010 and $15M in 3 installments of $3,333,333 each on June 30, 2011 and 2012, and $8,333,333 on June 30, 2013 Manny has like $56M in deferred money coming to him between now and 2026. I find this all just unbelievably confusing. No. The conversation is about the $25 million from his Dodgers contract. We are assuming the Red Sox money is no longer relevant because the terms of that playing contact have expired. I believe the Dodgers agreed not to pick up the club options for 2009 and 2010 when they traded for Manny. Edit: I have been asking your ass to weigh in on this s*** for a few days now Double edit: ESPN

QUOTE (Sox72 @ Aug 3, 2010 -> 05:30 PM) Ehh, good question......they came with the beachbody set with the pullup/pushup bar. I'm using the green one. Just looked it up. It's 40 lbs. That's odd, though, because there's no way I could do curls with 40 lb dumbbells. I don't know what to tell you then. Make bigger loops. I certainly was not very strong by any means, but for the first 8 weeks or so of P90X, I used the bands. And I think I did go up from a 25 pound band to a 30 to a 40 pound band. But it certainly did the job. My guess is that if you're doing these workouts and you don't feel much, you're either very strong already and need a very heavy duty band, or you are not doing enough reps.
  13. I'm pretty happy with the improvements Alexei has made defensively, and the way he has played offensively since May. I'll leave it at that. Oh, and he makes $1.25 million dollars.

QUOTE (Sox72 @ Aug 3, 2010 -> 04:20 PM) Well, it's mainly the bicep and tricep exercises that I'm talking about. They do feel like they are working on the back and shoulder exercises. You probably just need heavier bands...what weight are they rated at?

QUOTE (Sox72 @ Aug 3, 2010 -> 05:13 PM) Yeah, that's what I figured. It feels like the workouts that need weights aren't really doing much. Now the cardio ones on the other hand...... If you have to correct bands, trust me, they work. There are many exercises where the bands are better than the weights, because they encourage better form and make certain you are exercising the correct muscle. Additionally, they are less dangerous in some instances, because of how fatigued you can get in these workouts. On the other hand, the weights are better for plenty of the more traditional exercises in P90x, and certainly easier to set up. Watch the Back & Biceps video with that Tim guy using the bands, and tell me they are worthless....
  16. QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 3, 2010 -> 03:28 PM) not a thing, but I had a pep talk with the belly last night saying with today's DH, he should at least wait until Wednesday. Yesterday was the day. Now he had better do it in the middle of the night or he has to wait 2 weeks...
  17. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Aug 3, 2010 -> 03:07 PM) I just want to point out that never, in a million years, would I consider a threesome now that I'm married. Never. Oh you're a newlywed...come back to us in 10 years....
  18. QUOTE (knightni @ Aug 3, 2010 -> 02:09 PM) The Bulls have done them in the past. Where do you come up with this stuff....haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa
  19. QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 3, 2010 -> 03:07 PM) There's some guy named R. Williams in Charlotte who could be an option. Never heard of him, but he has a 1.80 ERA. Don't even joke about that...
  20. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Aug 3, 2010 -> 02:50 PM) Carlton Fisk says "hi". This is not directed at you personally, Sqwert, but is there some way to eradicate this habit people have lately of using that expression?
  21. QUOTE (J.Reedfan8 @ Aug 3, 2010 -> 01:50 PM) I can barely handle one woman as it is. But having two in the equation?! I'm not Superman. Yeah, that's another truth, my friend.
  22. QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Aug 3, 2010 -> 01:45 PM) Yeah that actually is a really good point, I never thought of it that way. I think it is a lot nicer to say goodbye to the guy in the offseason than it is in the middle of a postseason run like this, as he has been in that clubhouse and traveled with the team for 105 games now.
  23. Don't do it. It's not worth it. People always think they can handle this s*** and they never can.
  24. QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Aug 3, 2010 -> 01:28 PM) Yeah I'd probably put Carlos in RF and DH Dayan vs. lefties, DH Carlos and put Teahen in RF vs. righties, and have Omar at 3rd as much as possible. I didn't read his post close enough to notice Carlos and platoon together. Carlos is just not hitting lefties lately. If you want to let him play against lefties he has a good history against, fine, but he should never be playing in the field from what we have seen this year. If anything, I would be inclined to break the platoon more for Viciedo to play against righties than for Carlos to play against lefties.
