  1. QUOTE (wilmot825 @ Apr 12, 2009 -> 12:29 AM) They got him good cuz even Crede was laughing a bit. I love BA. I don't even know why, because he can't hit for s***...but I just love having him in our dugout...
  2. QUOTE (Jimmywins1 @ Apr 11, 2009 -> 08:33 PM) Pujols is the Iguchi of St. Louis. Hah, funny...I just caught that.
  3. Just came back from the Riviera sportsbook. They have the Bears all the way down to 12 - 1 to win the Super Bowl.
  4. I want to win these games, as they are as important as any other games, but I am hoping they are taking this time to evaluate what they have and how the current pieces might fit for the long season ahead. I also hope they are realizing their shortcomings and scouring the league for what players might be available that could alleviate those shortcomings. We obviously have some of the same issues we had last year, which they weren't able to solve during the offseason, so it isn't easy. But we do have several new pieces this year and it is imperative to see how they fit into the big picture. I wasn't a proponent of moving Alexei to CF this year, but it's beginning to look like if they aren't going to give Brian much of a chance to be an everyday player, than that might be the best solution. My guess is they will take a long, long look at doing the same thing with Beckham that the Rays did with Longoria last year...
  5. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 10, 2009 -> 11:49 AM) I thought it was going to be a funny one...that Sox fans were suing to get a return of their season ticket checks because KW didn't make a "reasonable" effort to improve the ballclub from 2008 to 2009, especially pertaining to the leadoff position. As far as the lawsuit goes, that's the kind of thing that makes the US so great!!! And why there are no diving boards at hotel pools anymore...isn't there a waiver on the ticket stub that would be a "blanket" coverage to something like that? Certainly, there is for batted or thrown balls or bats flying into the stands. Suing GM now? Get in line there, buddy. I could see the argument if he didn't even get out of his seat, he was sitting down, and a huge pile of people landed on him and broke his neck or paralyzed him from the waist down....it's all about the "reasonable standard of care," did the White Sox knowingly create dangerous or risky situations in the stands by firing t-shirts into them? How would doing that be any more dangerous than going after a ball or bat? I guess because one is deliberate/intentional, the other is random/chance/probability-related and part of the game and "expected," although everyone knows about the t-shirt cannons in MLB parks and minor league stadiums all across the US. The guy is probably just hoping the Sox will settle with him out of court rather than contest the suit. The fact is, one can raise a legal argument charging harm in almost any situation. Sometimes people get hurt. It is a fact of life. Otherwise, we should all just stay home and avoid other humans or other environments other than our own. This is the sort of thing that made me decide not to practice law.
  6. QUOTE (lostfan @ Apr 9, 2009 -> 02:52 PM) ^^ I heart Leftwich Yeah, I have to agree with Jason here. It would seem foolish for Leftwich, who ultimately still has designs on starting in this League, to come to Chicago, where he has no shot at playing. Perhaps on a one-year deal if nothing better materializes...
  7. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Apr 8, 2009 -> 06:49 PM) Evidently John Clayton reported yesterday that Holt is waiting for offers from the Bears and Giants (already has them from Tenn and Jacksonville) before he signs. Who do you go to if you're Holt, assuming the money is similar? NY or Chicago?
  8. QUOTE (TheHolyBovine @ Apr 7, 2009 -> 09:16 PM) Tampa got better because their talented pitching staff simultaneously gelled and dominated. Actually, no. Tampa improved their defense more than anyone in the league. They went from worst to first in defensive efficiency, basically. Was it the pitching? 70% of the innings came from pitchers they had the year before. As for Dukes, are you guys crazy? He can't play on one of the worst teams in baseball, and yet you guys want to trade our top 5 prospects for him. He is worth very little. Poreda? Shelby? Anyone not named Beckham? I'll bet a few guys outside of our top 20 would do the job.
  9. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Apr 4, 2009 -> 02:01 AM) You're right. He is top 10 and most consider him a lock for top 5 QB in the NFl for the next several years. But yes, wins and losses are still something that acan be tracked. Agreed, but I think that one stat floating around is also fairly indicative of what kind of QB Jay Cutler is... When his defense gives up 21 points or less, he is 13 - 1 as a starter. As I said earlier in the thread, I think quite a few of his numbers will change when he isn't forced to throw 40 times a game, or that whomever has the ball last will win. Sometimes your defense just sucks...
  10. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Apr 3, 2009 -> 10:40 PM) You spent $330 on a jersey? What recession! Actually, it was $310.14 (I know, ridiculous). That's what kind of fan I am... Honestly, I moved to Vegas this past year and so I don't get to spend as much time around the teams I love anymore...it's important to me to be able to keep my Chicago roots as much as possible, and sometimes that means wearing a Sox or a Bears jersey in a town without a team...
  11. QUOTE (lostfan @ Apr 3, 2009 -> 09:48 PM) You know Eli was pretty much flawless in the playoffs though right? For one year, yes...let's see him be a bit more consistent, shall we?
  12. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Apr 3, 2009 -> 08:40 PM) IF you say Phillip Rivers you must include Cutler. RIght now, if you are starting an NFL franchise I believe the three guys people start with at the QB position are Jay Cutler, Phillip Rivers, Big Ben, Eli Manning, and Matt Ryan. I'd say that its probably in that exact order as well but that could be debated (i might flip flop Manning and Ryan). The next group of people would be Aaron Rodgers, Cassel, and Flacco). I didn't put Big Ben as high up because I don't think he's that good of a pure passer, although he has super bowl rings so you got to give him credit for that. Either way, Cutler is clearly in that group of potential franchise building guys. Yeah, Rivers was tough for me, but I put him in that category because he has proven he can win in the playoffs. I think Jay has more talent than Rivers, to be honest (and I definitely think he has more talent than Big Ben), but he might not have the intangibles those guys have... More than any other position in sports, intangibles are so important in a QB....Rivers has "it"....so does "Rothelisberger...that's why I put them in that group and not Cutler yet. I do NOT think Eli belongs there. He did win a Super Bowl. I do not think he will win another.
  13. QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Apr 3, 2009 -> 09:32 PM) Just bought myself a Jay Cutler jersey in navy blue. Can't wait to wear it around campus. I ordered one last night. Didn't get the 15% off...could have saved myself almost $50... I did however, get an email from UPS this afternoon saying they have received the tracking information, so it should be here by midweek next week...woooo
  14. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 3, 2009 -> 06:41 PM) How do we define "Franchise QB" in the first place? To me, a franchise quarterback is one who you slot in at quarterback, as long as he is healthy, with no concerns for the position, or bringing in anyone else, for as long as he is signed. He is the leader of the offense and the face of the franchise. He is, above anything else, any other statistic, a winner. Think Peyton Manning. Ben Rothlisberger. Brett Favre. Philip Rivers. Drew Brees. Tom Brady. Whether or not Jay Cutler will ever become that, I'm not sure, but he certainly is at the front of the line of those knocking on the door...
  15. QUOTE (Jenks Heat @ Apr 3, 2009 -> 01:04 PM) Anyone hear Urlacher's thoughts on the trade. WSCR was talking about him pretty negativley as if he is now bitter that he may not be the face of the organization the guy has turned into quite the jerk....but I never heard what he said. Anthony Adams by the way is very entertaining. I heard that he sounded downright "giddy" about the deal when they interviewed him today on the radio...but that is second hand information...
  16. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 3, 2009 -> 12:38 PM) I highly doubt you'd be getting him in exchange for a 2nd rounder. Thus the "dreaming" part...
  17. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Apr 3, 2009 -> 12:28 PM) Bring in Holt as a 3rd WR to play in the slot and maybe have a higher load early in the season while Bennett and Hester continue to develop and we'll be in business. I'm super excited to have Cutler in here. Is Boldin still potentially available? I am dreaming of Boldin in the slot and Holt and Hester split wide...
  18. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Mar 29, 2009 -> 10:40 PM) Spartans-Heels, UNC takes it. That result would win me about $1800 in bracket-pool victories! I hope you're right...
  19. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 3, 2009 -> 12:19 PM) Everyone knew about Cassel a couple months ago when there was talk of Sanchez going around 18-19 to the Bears, Jets, even the Lions. Now there's talk of him going #4 to the Seahawks or something in that range. I was hearing Sanchez could go #3 to the Chiefs before they traded for Cassel....
  20. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 3, 2009 -> 12:16 PM) Sanchez seems to be uniformly flying up people's draft boards right now. I think that is somewhat aided by the success of Cassel as well...
  21. Jeesh...settle down fellas....friendly debate here... Keep in mind that the Pro Bowl is voted upon by humans...humans who recognize that Marino never had a defense or running game to work with....hmm, sounds sort of like Cutler last year. People realize other factors that affect a quarterback's play and take those into consideration when evaluating them...
  22. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Apr 3, 2009 -> 10:26 AM) If Cutler's ratings "rise dramatically" he will be in first ballot HOF range. Marino only had a career rating of 86.4. For a young QB 3 consecutive years of 86+ rating is pretty good, most of the guys who have done better are all in or going to the HOF. I think if you sign a Torry Holt, protect Cutler fairly well, and play decent defense, you'll see Cutler put up a rating in the mid-to-high 90's.
  23. QUOTE (Y2HH @ Apr 3, 2009 -> 06:25 AM) 1) 86 is NOT a "pretty good" QB rating for a guy that cost you a serviceable QB, 2 first round picks and a 3rd round pick. Yes, Cutler is better than Orton, but for what you gave up, you got robbed as far as I'm concerned. 2) Cutler is going to make the Bears receiving corps better?! What receiving corps? This made me laugh. The Bears receivers are OK at best, and Cutler isn't going to make them much better, if at all. Receiving corps? More like receiving CORPSE. 3) Judging a QB with or without a running game is a tricky situation -- Favre had no running for the first six+ games two years ago (his final season on the Packers), and posted INSANE statistics despite opposing defenses knowing he was passing. That has a lot to do with your o-line and your receivers, and again, I fall back on the Bears receivers being an absolute joke...all of them. Bottom line, IMO, Cutler is an upgrade for the Bears -- he's just not nearly as much of an upgrade as Bear nation is trying to make it out to be. You can tell how QB starved this town is when people rejoice about the greatness that is Cutler, when he's not even near being great. As for his "pro-bowl" season, also a joke...with statistics like that, it means he made the pro-bowl because of lack of QB talent in his conference, not because he actually belonged there. I think it's pretty silly to judge the QB rating considering he has had no defense and had to try and do things on offense which he would never have had to do if he had a solid defense. I expect the rating to rise somewhat dramatically now that he doesn't feel as though he has to score every drive...
  24. Already ordered my authentic #6 Cutler jersey. Let's hope he doesn't decide to take # 5 or something....
  25. Honestly? The only good thing that might come out of that would be his wife being back in town.... Ohhhhhhhhhh Liiiiissssaaaaaaaaa??????????
