Wow....this is definitely the post of the year and certainly a finalist for post of the decade.

QUOTE (fathom @ May 4, 2009 -> 06:16 PM) Some people will point to his two hits tonight, even though both of them should have been easy plays for KC's defense. It's not Podsednik's fault though. He has no business still playing in the majors, but KW tried to get cute and go the nostalgic route. Seriously, do we have to go down this route again? Did we not have 2 years of this already? For what the team is doing as a whole right now, there are plenty of other things to b**** about rather than another stupid Podsednik thread.

QUOTE (SouthSidePride05 @ May 1, 2009 -> 09:59 PM) Is there any other site that shows current attendance figures? I'm pretty sure MLB and every other site gets their information from that ESPN site. That's pretty pathetic because it's just plain inaccurate. I just did some research, and I added all the attendance #s for all 12 games. Again, this site indicates the average attendance for the White Sox after 12 games: http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/attendance I came up with 295,295 excluding the first game of the double header. That means they counted the first game as an attendance of 1. I then added all of the Red Sox attendance figures for their 12 games. They also had a double header. They counted both games of the double header on 4/22. I'm not sure there wasn't just 1 person at that first game...

Your tricks to maximizing your USCF experience

Some great tips in there, Pants. Thanks! Guys, I know that in this economic climate, a trip to the ballpark is a bit of a luxury, but take advantage of the good weather and the beautiful park all you can. I moved to Las Vegas last July, only been to one game since, and I must say, I took it for granted and miss it now, badly. I used to turn down the opportunity to go to games all the time. Now I wish I had that chance. Enjoy our beautiful city and ballpark. -
I think Mel Kiper was offered a job by the Baltimore Colts in 1983 before they moved to Indianapolis. I could be wrong, but I think he makes more money doing what he does now than what he would make working for an NFL team. He obviously is very arrogant, and nothing makes that more clear than the on-air argument he had with Colts Director of Football Operations Bill Tobin when the Colts took Marshall Faulk rather than a QB...Kiper said something like "that's why the Colts are picking 2nd every year and not contending for a Super Bowl." But the guy knows his stuff, is recognized as the foremost commentator and expert on the draft, and while he is certainly wrong at times, he knows a hell of a lot more than anyone on this board (and probably more than many NFL executives) about players entering the draft. So disagree with him all you want, and personally, I don't particularly care for the guy, but to claim he doesn't know his stuff is not in the least bit accurate.

QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Apr 26, 2009 -> 07:48 PM) I don't understand why so many of you take everything so seriously. I know we all love the Sox and all and have our opinions but we don't know squat about what goes on in Ozzie's mind or his reasons for saying what he did. For that matter we don't know anything about the inner workings of the team. Our opinions are based on knowing only what we see happening on the field and reading the opinions of those who have slightly more knowledge than us. I'm not supporting Ozzie or Anderson here, just saying our knowledge isn't worth the effort of trying to understand . Nice post. I agree wholeheartedly. I'm not going to worry about this. I have faith that Ozzie sees some of the rockets coming off the bat of Brian lately. Man, I am so excited for the kid...

QUOTE (kyyle23 @ Apr 23, 2009 -> 08:34 AM) I think its because he runs off a lot of screens to get shots, which isnt a bad thing. You are right, he can create his own shot as well, but the Bulls like to get him wide open off of some screens so he doesnt have a big hand in his face Right, I mean, what basketball team doesn't try to get their best pure shooter open looks by screening his man? But there are plenty of times when he creates his own shots out on the perimeter...because of his size, he has learned to shoot the ball with a high trajectory...and that definitely has helped him be able to shoot over bigger defenders...it's amazing how many shots he hits when there is that much air between the ball and the rim when he shoots it...
-
Why do people keep saying BG can't create his own shot though? He creates his own shots all the time. Sure, he dribbles it off his knee alot when he drives, and can't finish too well at the rim, but that shouldn't be confused with creating his own shot. I've seen him create his own shots time and time again...

QUOTE (rangercal @ Apr 15, 2009 -> 10:15 PM) Damn. I could only imagine all the ass those guys get. Actually, my friend met Cutler out at a bar last Saturday night and they exchanged phone numbers. I guess they were texting eachother all day on Sunday. I told her to make sure he is memorizing the playbook and not to take any more of his bodily fluids than was necessary.

Hopefully he'll replace Owens and we can all just relax a little. At least we know he is CAPABLE of hitting in this League. Welcome back, Scotty and the lovely Mrs. Scotty.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Apr 14, 2009 -> 07:33 AM) Glad to see that BA will get a shot to show his stuff. Hopefully he gets to play regularly for at least a month - then I think we'll have a good picture of where he is at. I have to say though, that rant I had earlier was sort of liberating, even if it was a gigantic overreaction. I thought it was great. Especially because of the size of the font you chose. I was picturing you going Office Space on your printer. -

I'll believe it when I see it.... How many times has Ozzie said one thing, fairly clearly, and then seemingly did the complete opposite? Please Brian, impress early and often... -

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 13, 2009 -> 06:13 PM) Sweeney is a very good athlete who should hit for more power than he does, but his swing isn't geared for tapping into his raw ability, and he may wind up being just a guy who struggles to hit 10 homers at the big-league level because of the lack of loft in his stroke. He hit .286 last year despite battling a bunch of hand and wrist problems, so perhaps a little more health will create a little more pop, but don't bet on it. He doesn't hit lefties well at all, but he should continue to have part of the center-field job in at least the better side of a platoon arrangement.[/i] espn.com Kinda makes you wish we could have them both and platoon them, doesn't it? -

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 13, 2009 -> 06:13 PM) It's simple....Ryan Sweeney, pure/short/compact stroke, which looks even better because he's LH and younger. BA...long/looping/disjointed swing that looks like the swinging gate from Atticus Finch's picket fence half the time...complete susceptibility to low and away breaking stuff (ala Uribe) Brian has shown the ability to shorten his swing. I think it's a tad difficult with such sporadic playing time. I don't want to argue with you, because this mule has been beaten badly enough, but PT, PT, PT. Just give the kid some damn PT. -

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 13, 2009 -> 04:57 PM) Sweeney MIGHT develop a little more extra-base/gap power someday, he'll need it in order to play everyday, against both lefties and righties. I would be fine with Ryan, as a platoon player, or on the corners (where he doesn't really fit, just like David DeJesus in KC)...but his lack of power forces him into CF, where he's not an ideal player. I think KW knew that he would never have more than warning track power (even at USCF), so he tried to put together a package that would give him a player that could play everyday in Swisher...of course, that didn't work out as KW planned, or Nick, for that matter. As a CFer, Sweeney is average or slightly below average MLB...and his offensive numbers there are going to be roughly the same...750-775 OPS, good, but not great. I am sure KW would have traded BA instead of Sweeney to get Swisher, but Beane wouldn't have taken it...just as we would have loved to trade BA/Vizcaino for Vazquez instead of Chris B. Young. I'm not really buying this...I know Sweeney is younger, but to be honest, I'm not seeing much difference between Ryan Sweeney and Brian Anderson other than the fact that Anderson does not get the chance to play regularly. For whatever reason that is, I don't know. There has NEVER been a situation in which we have needed Brian in the starting lineup more than this season, even before Dweezy got hurt today. With both of our corner outfielders playing out of position, and no better alternative offensively, Brian was and now more than ever is the obvious choice here. And yet, the organization, or OG in particular acts as if he isn't even sitting in that dugout. Quite frankly, if Brian isn't going to get a chance now, he never will with this organization. -

QUOTE (Kenny Hates Prospects @ Apr 13, 2009 -> 05:32 PM) People just like defense, that's all. I think most Sox fans are sick of our play in CF since Rowand left, with the only exception being Anderson, and I think they also recognize that CQ and JD aren't exactly the rangiest of all corner OF combos. I don't think anyone is putting BA on a pedestal. The Sox made a mistake bringing him up through the minors and letting him get by on talent alone, and then not asking him to make any real changes until he was already overmatched in the Majors. Then, the following season, he beats out Erstad but becomes a bench guy and is sent down. The following season he clearly made the team and it was debated whether or not Anderson or CQ should start on opening day, and yet Ozzie went with Alexei in CF and Uribe at 2B unexpectedly. Anderson understandably lost playing time, but he didn't get the everyday gig when Swisher sucked ass. Wise and Griffey did. Then this year he by all means should have won the CF position based on his ST numbers plus his defense, yet once again he's the 4th OF. The Sox f***ed up with Brian at seemingly every step of the way. His failures in 2006 were as much the fault of the Sox player development "philosophies" or lack thereof as they were of Brian himself, and now that he's matured and everything, and he's supposedly a different person altogether and willing to learn and adjust, now he gets shoved to the backburner. It's f***ing ridiculous how they've handled this guy. If there had been better options, fine. But I guarantee that as much as the Sox talk up the Twins and Braves' systems, had BA been drafted by either of those teams he'd have been handled in a much better, much more professional fashion. He wouldn't have been up in 2006, and he would have been forced to change his attitude and make his adjustments in the minors, and by now we'd now what we have, because he'd have either been given a legitimate chance that he was deemed truly ready for or he would have been shipped out and someone else brought in. It's funny how the Sox try to use BA as a scapegoat yet BA, if anything, is the perfect example of a s***ty player development system, a s***ty old regime of coaching in the minor leagues, a lack of direction from the GM, and the density of a manager who supposedly values pitching and defense above all else. As for Beckham, I'd say yes on Beckham only if Buddy Bell says it's a good idea. I like the guy and I see the changes he's presiding over. If Buddy says he's ready, go for it, but if not then don't. I don't usually agree with you on a whole lot here, but this is one hell of a post. -

I was living on the North Side at the time. It was pretty surreal walking up and down Halsted, Lincoln, Clark and seeing absolutely no visable signs that the White Sox were even in the postseason. It was if I was the only Sox fan on that side of town. If I didn't know I was in Chicago, one might have thought I was walking around Lincoln, Nebraska instead of Lincoln Ave. Anyways, good read. One of the few that seems to actually accurately capture the life of a White Sox fan...

My greatest memories of Joe come from the home run Joe hit against the Indians (and David Riske, was it?) in late September of 05' and carrying through the post season. I then bought an authentic road Crede jersey which I proudly wore a few times to games in the 06' season, including to the opener. Some scoundrels then broke into my apartment in May of 06'. They stole flat screens from my roommates, and my authentic road Crede jersey, complete with World Series patch, from my closet. Of all the despicable things to do to a man.
